Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

JED tariff bands: what Jos customers pay per unit

What each Jos Electricity Distribution band costs per kWh under NERC's current order, how many hours each band promises, and how to complain.

The short answer

Under NERC's July 2025 supplementary order for Jos Electricity Distribution (ORDER/NERC/2025/065), a non-maximum-demand Band A customer pays ₦209.50 per kWh, while Bands B to E pay between ₦63.26 and ₦39.90 per kWh, as at October 2026 when we checked. Band A promises at least 20 hours of supply a day; if you get less, complain to JED first, then to the NERC Forum office.

Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED) supplies Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Benue states. What you pay per unit depends on your band, which is set by the average hours of supply on your feeder, and on your customer class. This guide gives the approved tariffs from NERC's current order for JED, explains the bands, shows what the same amount of power costs in each, and sets out how to challenge a wrong band or poor supply.

JED tariffs per kWh, as at October 2026

The figures below are from NERC's July 2025 Supplementary Order to the MYTO 2024 for JED, effective 1 July 2025, which was the order on NERC's site when we checked in October 2026. NERC can issue a new order at any time, so check nerc.gov.ng or JED for the current one.

BandNon-MD (₦/kWh)MD1 (₦/kWh)MD2 (₦/kWh)
A209.50209.50209.50
B63.2668.0271.97
C52.8358.0159.45
D40.1254.2454.24
E39.9052.9554.24
Life-line (up to 50 kWh a month)4.00

Non-MD (non-maximum demand) covers most homes and small shops. MD1 and MD2 are for larger commercial and industrial customers on bigger connections. The order states that Bands B to E remain at the rates payable since December 2022; only Band A has moved since then, from ₦225.00 in April 2024 to ₦206.80 in May and June 2024 and ₦209.50 from July 2024.

What the bands promise

Bands are about hours of supply, not about where you live. NERC's tariff orders set minimum average daily supply for each band:

Band A
at least 20 hours a day
Band B
at least 16 hours
Band C
at least 12 hours
Band D
at least 8 hours
Band E
at least 4 hours

Where a Band A feeder persistently falls short, NERC's rules provide for compensation or for the feeder to be moved down. For February and March 2026, when grid generation was constrained, NERC's Directive NERC/2026/002 instead let feeders averaging under 18 hours keep their Band A status while customers were compensated: non-MD customers were to receive credit worth 20% of the approved February 2026 energy cap for their feeder, loaded as token credit on prepaid meters, and DisCos were barred from setting it against customers' debts.

What the same power costs in each band

Worked example. A household uses 100 kWh in a month, at non-MD tariffs, before any VAT or debt deductions shown on the receipt:

BandCalculationCost of 100 kWh
A100 × ₦209.50₦20,950
B100 × ₦63.26₦6,326
C100 × ₦52.83₦5,283
D100 × ₦40.12₦4,012
E100 × ₦39.90₦3,990

Second example. A shop on Band A that buys a ₦10,000 token gets about 47.7 kWh (₦10,000 ÷ ₦209.50) before any VAT or debt deductions. The same ₦10,000 on Band B buys about 158 kWh (₦10,000 ÷ ₦63.26). If your receipt shows far fewer units than this arithmetic suggests, look for a debt recovery or VAT line before assuming an error.

Band A power costs more than three times Band B per unit. That is why being placed in Band A without getting 20 hours matters: you pay the premium price for a service you are not receiving.

How to find your band

  1. Look at your last token receipt or bill. It normally shows your tariff class or band beside the units bought.
  2. Divide the amount paid (before VAT and other charges) by the units in kWh. A result near ₦209.50 means Band A; near ₦63 means Band B.
  3. Ask JED customer care to confirm the band of your feeder. JED has said it applies only approved tariffs and directs customers to its customer care channels and nearest customer care centre.
  4. Keep a simple log of supply hours for a fortnight. It is the evidence you will need if you challenge the band.

Our general guides explain bands A to E and how to check and challenge your band.

Complaint routes

  1. JED first. Complain to JED customer care with your meter or account number, receipts and supply log. Get a complaint reference.
  2. NERC Forum office. NERC's published escalation path runs from the DisCo to the NERC Customer Complaints Forum office if the DisCo does not resolve the complaint.
  3. Appeal to NERC. If you disagree with the Forum decision, you can appeal to the Commission. In states that have their own electricity regulator, the second and third steps go to that state regulator instead, so check which applies to Plateau when you escalate.

Where Pryme fits

You can buy JED tokens in the Pryme app under electricity; the meter name is shown before you pay and any charge is on its own line. Your receipt in the app helps with the unit check above. For the step-by-step on buying, see how to buy a JED token in Jos.

Questions people ask

How much is 1 unit of electricity in Jos?

As at October 2026, NERC's July 2025 order for JED set ₦209.50 per kWh for Band A and ₦63.26, ₦52.83, ₦40.12 and ₦39.90 for non-MD Bands B to E. Check NERC's site for any newer order.

How do I know my JED band?

Check the tariff class on your token receipt, or divide the amount paid before charges by the kWh. Then confirm with JED customer care.

What can I do if I am on Band A but don't get 20 hours?

Log your supply hours, complain to JED with the log, then escalate to the NERC Forum office. NERC rules provide for downgrading or compensation where feeders fall short.

Which states does JED cover?

Jos Electricity Distribution covers Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Benue states.
