Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

ISPO for civil servants: how the deduction works

An ISPO tells your payroll or bank to pay a lender from your salary every month, and you cannot cancel it alone. How it works and where it stops.

The short answer

An Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) is an instruction you sign directing that a fixed sum be paid to a lender from your salary each month until the loan is repaid. For federal civil servants paid through IPPIS, lenders use it to collect at source, before the money reaches you. "Irrevocable" means you cannot cancel it without the lender's consent, but it only works while you are on that payroll and earning enough: if you leave, retire or your pay falls, the debt remains and must be repaid another way.

What the ISPO is

Civil servant loans in Nigeria, from banks, microfinance banks, cooperatives and lenders that specialise in public sector staff, are usually priced on the assumption that repayment comes straight out of salary. The ISPO is the document that makes that happen. You sign a standing order naming the lender, the monthly amount and the duration, and you agree not to withdraw it until the loan is cleared.

For federal workers, salaries are processed through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). State and local government staff are paid through their own payroll systems, and the same idea applies through whatever platform their employer uses.

How the deduction moves

  1. You apply to the lender and sign the loan agreement, the ISPO and usually a letter of undertaking from your employer or a payroll confirmation.
  2. The lender lodges the ISPO with the payroll channel it uses, or with your salary bank.
  3. Each month, the agreed instalment is deducted before your net pay is credited, or immediately after it lands in your account, depending on the arrangement.
  4. Your payslip or statement should show the deduction and the lender's name.
  5. When the final instalment is paid, the lender should stop the instruction and issue a liquidation or closure letter.
ToolWho actsCan you cancel alone?
ISPOPayroll or salary bank pays the lenderNo, it is irrevocable without lender consent
Direct debit mandateLender pulls from your account via NIBSSDepends on the agreement; see direct debit mandates
Salary domiciliationEmployer pays salary only into a named accountUsually not without lender consent; see domiciliation letters

The limits of an ISPO

  • It depends on your pay. If your net pay after other deductions is too low, the instalment may fail or only partly succeed. The debt is not reduced because the deduction failed.
  • Payroll rules cap total deductions. Government payroll rules limit how much of a worker's pay can go to deductions. We could not confirm the current limit in October 2026; ask your payroll or HR office before you borrow.
  • It ends when your employment ends. Retirement, resignation, transfer to a different payroll or suspension stops the deduction, but not the loan.
  • It does not override your other rights. The lender can collect only the agreed instalment, not arbitrary extra sums.
  • It is not a guarantee of the lender's good conduct. If deductions continue after the loan is repaid, you are entitled to a refund.

If you leave the payroll

Retirement is the most common reason an ISPO stops early. Your gratuity and pension are paid differently from salary, and the lender cannot assume it will be able to take its instalment from them. Speak to the lender before your exit date, agree how the remaining balance will be paid, and get the arrangement in writing. If you are transferring between agencies, check that the new payroll will pick up the deduction, or you may find yourself in arrears without knowing.

What a lender's page may and may not tell you

Lender pages for civil servant loans vary in detail. As an illustration, Credit Direct's federal government employee loan page, checked in October 2026, did not mention IPPIS or ISPO by name. It described repayments debited from the borrower's account, gave tenors of 3 to 36 months in its FAQ (while another section said up to 12 months), quoted interest of "about 4% to 4.95%" on a flat basis without stating the period on that line, and mentioned a one-off upfront service fee without giving the amount. Where a page is inconsistent, ask for the loan offer in writing and rely on that.

A worked example of total cost

Example only, not any lender's terms. Hauwa, a federal officer, borrows ₦500,000 over 12 months at a flat 4% a month, with a 1% upfront fee.

ItemCalculationAmount
Interest₦500,000 × 4% × 12₦240,000
Upfront fee₦500,000 × 1%₦5,000
Total repayable₦500,000 + ₦240,000₦740,000
Monthly ISPO deduction₦740,000 ÷ 12about ₦61,667
Total cost of borrowing₦240,000 + ₦5,000₦245,000

Because a flat rate is charged on the original amount even as you repay, the effective annual rate is much higher than 48%. Read APR vs flat fee to compare offers fairly. If Hauwa's net pay is ₦150,000, this deduction takes about 41% of it, before any cooperative or other loan deductions.

What to check first

  1. The exact monthly deduction and the number of months.
  2. The total repayable and every fee, in writing.
  3. What happens if you retire, transfer or leave before the end.
  4. Whether early repayment is allowed and how unused interest is treated.
  5. How the lender will stop the ISPO and confirm closure.
  6. Your current deductions, so the new one leaves enough to live on.

For digital lenders lending to civil servants, the FCCPC's 2025 regulations require full disclosure of interest, repayment terms and fees before the transaction is completed (Regulation 17(a)). This article is information, not legal or financial advice.

Where Pryme fits

If you want to plan around salary deductions, a Pryme Personal Assistant can track bills and reminders, preparing payments for you to approve. See the Personal Assistant.

Questions people ask

What is ISPO in loan?

An Irrevocable Standing Payment Order: a signed instruction that a fixed amount be paid from your salary to the lender each month until the loan is repaid.

Can I cancel an ISPO?

Not on your own. It is irrevocable until the loan is cleared unless the lender agrees in writing.

What happens to my IPPIS loan if I retire?

The salary deduction stops, but the balance is still owed. Agree a repayment plan with the lender before you leave.

What if the lender keeps deducting after I finish paying?

Write to the lender with your payslips, ask for a refund and a closure letter, and complain to the regulator if it does not act.
