Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Importing Nigerian foodstuff into Ireland: what is allowed

Meat and dairy from Nigeria are banned in personal consignments, plants need a certificate, and stock for sale is a food business. What is allowed.

The short answer

Ireland applies EU rules that split Nigerian food into two groups. Products of animal origin, such as meat, milk and their products, cannot come in as personal consignments from outside the EU, and fish has a personal limit. Plants, fruit, vegetables and seeds need a phytosanitary certificate presented to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). Food brought in to sell is a commercial import: you must register as a food business with the FSAI-listed authority before trading, and agree the import route with DAFM first.

Two questions decide what you can bring

For any Nigerian product, ask two things. Is it of animal origin (meat, milk, fish, eggs, honey and their products) or of plant origin (seeds, grains, flours, fruit, vegetables, leaves)? And is it for your own household, or stock you plan to sell? The rules differ on both questions, and a shop owner moving goods in suitcases is still bringing stock, not a gift.

Animal-origin foods

DAFM's page on personal consignments, updated 12 June 2026, says personal consignments of meat, milk or their products are not allowed from non-EU countries. Revenue's Tax and Duty Manual on personal imports says products of animal origin carried in travellers' luggage are prohibited unless they fall under listed exceptions, and the same applies to small consignments sent by post or courier to private people, including food ordered online.

Product type (Nigerian examples)Personal consignment from Nigeria
Meat and meat products: suya spice mixed with meat, kilishi, ponmo, dried beefNot allowed (DAFM)
Milk and dairy: wara, powdered milk that is not infant formulaNot allowed (DAFM)
Fishery products: stockfish, smoked catfish, dried fishPersonal limit of 20 kg, or one fish, whichever weighs more (Revenue manual, Annex 1)
Infant milk, infant food, special medical food2 kg, in unbroken branded packaging, not needing refrigeration (Revenue manual)
Bread, biscuits, chocolate, confectionery, pasta without meat filling, coffee, teaAllowed: exempt from the animal-product ban (DAFM)

Plant-origin foods

DAFM says plants, fruit, vegetables, cut flowers, seeds, soil and timber from a third country need a phytosanitary certificate presented to the Department at the point of entry. Bananas, durians, dates, pineapples and coconuts are exempt. Many Nigerian staples are plant products in raw or lightly processed form: egusi and ogbono are seeds, while fresh peppers, ugu and bitter leaf are vegetables. Garri, semolina-type flours and packaged spices are processed further. DAFM's page does not list processed goods one by one, so before you ship, ask DAFM how a specific product is classed.

Bringing in stock to sell

Selling changes the picture. The personal allowances above are for personal consumption; they do not cover stock. Two sets of duties apply to a commercial importer.

  1. Register as a food business before trading. The FSAI says every food business must register before it starts. Depending on what you handle, you register with your local HSE environmental health office, with DAFM, or with the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority, and some activities need approval rather than registration.
  2. Run a food safety system. The FSAI expects a HACCP-based system, traceability (who supplied each product and when), food hygiene training and allergen information.
  3. Agree the import route with DAFM before ordering. Commercial consignments of animal-origin food from outside the EU fall outside the personal pages above. Ask DAFM which checks and documents apply to your products and port of entry. If any non-compliant goods are confiscated, the Revenue manual's form for that goes to DAFM.
  4. Pay customs duty and import VAT. Revenue says duty is worked out on the customs value (goods plus transport, postage and insurance) at the rate in the TARIC database, and VAT is charged at the rate the goods would carry in Ireland, on the value plus duty.

A practical sequence for a new importer

  • Make a product list, marking each line as animal origin, plant origin, or processed.
  • Drop or replace lines that cannot come from Nigeria as written, such as dairy.
  • Ask DAFM about the remaining lines and whether your supplier can provide certificates.
  • Register the business with the right authority before the first sale.
  • Get the TARIC code and duty rate for each line so the landed cost is known before you price.

For travel quantities, see bringing egusi, crayfish and stockfish in your luggage. For the shop side, see food business registration and customs duty and VAT on goods from Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

Paying a Nigerian supplier in naira and keeping euro sales separate is easier with a Pryme Business multicurrency account; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve each conversion.

Questions people ask

Can I import stockfish from Nigeria to Ireland?

For personal use, fishery products are allowed up to 20 kg, or one fish if that weighs more. Stock for sale is a commercial import: register as a food business and check the import route with DAFM first.

Is Nigerian meat allowed into Ireland?

No. DAFM says personal consignments of meat, milk or their products from non-EU countries are not allowed.

Do I need a certificate to import Nigerian vegetables or seeds?

DAFM says plants, fruit, vegetables and seeds from outside the EU need a phytosanitary certificate presented at entry; a few fruits are exempt.

Can I order Nigerian food online and have it posted to Ireland?

Animal-origin products sent by post or courier to private people are prohibited under the same rules. Plant products face the certificate rule.
