Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

New electricity connection in Ikeja Electric area: steps

Getting a first connection for a new building in the Ikeja Electric area: the application, inspection and metering steps, and how to check any fee asked.

The short answer

A new connection in the Ikeja Electric area starts with an application to Ikeja Electric for the premises, supported by proof of ownership or occupancy, ID and a certificate from a licensed electrical contractor that the internal wiring is safe. Ikeja Electric then assesses the network capacity, and the premises must be metered. Ask Ikeja Electric for every charge in writing with the regulatory basis before you pay, because we could not find a current published fee schedule.

Before you apply

A first connection is not just a meter. Ikeja Electric has to be satisfied that your building can be connected safely and that the nearby network can carry the load. Preparing these items before you apply avoids repeat visits.

  • Confirm that your street is in the Ikeja Electric franchise and not Eko's. See which DisCo serves your Lagos street.
  • Have the internal wiring completed by a qualified, licensed electrical contractor, with a test certificate or wiring completion report.
  • Work out the load: the main appliances and whether you need single-phase or three-phase supply.
  • Gather proof of ownership or occupancy (title document, deed, tenancy agreement or allocation letter) and a valid ID.
  • Note the nearest pole or transformer and its distance from the building.

Steps: applying to Ikeja Electric

  1. Contact Ikeja Electric through its official website, customer care or the business unit that serves your area, and ask for the new connection application form and checklist.
  2. Submit the form with the documents above. Ask for a dated acknowledgement or application number.
  3. Ikeja Electric inspects the premises and the nearby network. Be present, and ask the inspector to explain any work they say is needed.
  4. If the network needs extending, such as a new pole, service cable or transformer capacity, ask for a written statement of the work, who will do it and who will pay.
  5. Arrange the meter. Ikeja Electric's website promotes Meter Asset Provider registration, so expect to apply for a meter through the MAP route unless Ikeja Electric tells you otherwise. See applying for an Ikeja Electric prepaid meter.
  6. Once the meter is installed and the account is created, Ikeja Electric connects the supply. Check the band and tariff class on your first receipt or bill.

What fees can be charged?

This is the question we could not answer with a figure. We did not find a current Ikeja Electric or regulator page listing new connection charges, so we do not quote any. What we can say is how to protect yourself:

  • Ask for every charge in writing, on Ikeja Electric's letterhead or through its official channels, with what it covers.
  • Ask what regulation or approval the charge is based on. Nigeria's national rules on metering and connection remain binding in Lagos until the Lagos regulator amends them, under LASERC's 2025 order.
  • Pay only into Ikeja Electric's or the Meter Asset Provider's official account, never into a staff member's personal account, and keep the receipt.
  • If you are asked to buy materials, such as cable or a pole, ask whether they become Ikeja Electric's asset and whether you will be refunded or credited.

Worked example: a simple load estimate

Example figures only, to help you describe your needs. A two-bedroom flat with a fridge (150 W), a freezer (200 W), four fans (70 W each, 280 W), lighting (150 W), a television (100 W) and an occasional pressing iron (1,000 W) has a connected load of 1,880 W (150 plus 200 plus 280 plus 150 plus 100 plus 1,000). Adding one air conditioner, assumed here to draw 1,100 W, brings it to 2,980 W. That information helps Ikeja Electric and your electrician decide whether single-phase supply is enough. Real appliance ratings are on their labels.

Single-phase or three-phase?

Most flats and small houses are supplied single-phase. Larger houses, buildings with several air conditioners, borehole pumps or workshops may need three-phase supply, which spreads the load across three lines. Three-phase meters and connections are generally more involved, so ask Ikeja Electric which it recommends for your load before you buy a meter. A multi-flat building may be better served by a separate meter for each flat than by one large meter shared between tenants, which avoids disputes over who used what.

For landlords building several flats

  • Plan a meter position for each flat that the tenant can reach for loading tokens, and that Ikeja Electric can reach for inspection.
  • Keep wiring for each flat separate back to its own meter.
  • Keep copies of all applications, receipts and inspection reports, so each new tenant can be given the meter number and history.

If the application stalls

Follow up with your application number. If it is not progressing, NERC's published route is the DisCo, then the Forum office, then the regulator, with the later steps going to the state regulator where one exists; for Lagos that is LASERC. See electricity complaints in Lagos.

Where Pryme fits

Landlords and developers can pay contractors and suppliers from a Pryme Business Account, keeping receipts for each payment in one place. Once the supply is on, tokens and bills can be paid through electricity bills in the app.

Questions people ask

How do I get a new electricity connection in Lagos?

Apply to the DisCo for your area, Ikeja Electric or Eko, with proof of ownership or occupancy, ID and a wiring certificate, then go through inspection and metering.

How much does Ikeja Electric charge for a new connection?

We could not find a published fee schedule. Ask Ikeja Electric for every charge in writing with its basis, and pay only into official accounts.

Do I need a meter before connection?

Yes. The premises must be metered; Ikeja Electric's site promotes the Meter Asset Provider route.

Who pays for a new pole or transformer?

Ask Ikeja Electric for a written statement of the work, who pays and whether materials become its asset before you agree.
