Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

IBEDC complaints in Ibadan: customer care and the regulator

Complain to IBEDC first through its listed lines, email or business unit; in Oyo State, regulation passed from NERC to OSERC under a 2024 order.

The short answer

For a billing, meter or no-supply problem in Ibadan, complain to IBEDC first: its website lists customer care lines including 07001239999 and 09155009999 and the email customercare@ibedc.com, and you can also go to your business unit office. Get a complaint reference. If it is not resolved, note that NERC transferred regulatory oversight of Oyo State's electricity market to the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OSERC) under an August 2024 order, so the escalation route is now through the state regulator rather than NERC.

Many people in Ibadan still search for "NERC forum office Ibadan" when IBEDC does not fix a bill or restore supply. That was the usual escalation for years. Since 2024 the picture in Oyo State has changed, and knowing who regulates your distributor tells you where to take an unresolved complaint.

What changed in Oyo State

TheCable reported on 5 August 2024 that NERC issued an order transferring regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Oyo State to the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, taking effect immediately, with the transfer to be completed by 5 February 2025. A legal summary by Alliance Law Firm on Mondaq (16 October 2024) gives the order number as NERC/2024/110, effective 6 August 2024, and says IBEDC was to incorporate a subsidiary to take over distribution and supply within Oyo State, with OSERC to set state-specific tariffs. Neither source names the subsidiary or describes complaint channels.

Step 1: complain to IBEDC and get a reference

IBEDC's website, checked in October 2026, lists these contacts:

ChannelDetails listed by IBEDC
Customer care lines07001239999, 09155009999, 08055009999, 09062029009, 09062039009
Emailcustomercare@ibedc.com
OnlineMake Complaints and Track Complaints pages, and the customer portal at customer.ibedc.com
Head officeCapital Building, 115 MKO Abiola Way (former Ring Road), Ibadan

One older press release on the same site gives a customer care line with one digit fewer; use the numbers in the site's contact section or on your bill. You can also visit your business unit or service centre; the address is usually on your bill.

  1. Have your account or meter number, address and phone number ready.
  2. Describe the problem precisely: amounts and months for a bill, dates and hours for an outage, the token and receipt for a vending issue.
  3. Ask for a complaint or ticket number and write down the name of the officer and the date.
  4. Follow up through Track Complaints or by email, quoting the reference.

Step 2: escalate if it is not resolved

If IBEDC, or its Oyo subsidiary, does not resolve the complaint, escalate in writing to the state regulator with your reference and evidence. Because we could not confirm OSERC's complaint channels, check the Oyo State Government's official announcements or ask at your business unit for the current escalation route, and keep proof of when you sent each letter.

Complaint types and what to ask for

ProblemAsk forEvidence
Estimated bill too highBill review and a meterRecent bills; neighbours' metered bills
Wrong band for hours receivedBand reviewTwo-week log of supply hours
Token rejected or not receivedToken reissue or reversalReceipt, token number, meter number
Faulty meterMeter test or replacementPhotos of the display and error code
Fault or fallen lineRepair dateDates, times, photos

See estimated electricity bills: your rights, how to check and challenge your band and, for token problems, token not loading. Our companion guide covers every way to buy an IBEDC token.

How to write the complaint

A short, factual complaint is easier to act on and stronger as a record if you need to escalate. Use this structure:

  1. Subject: "Billing complaint, account [number], [street, area], Ibadan".
  2. What happened: one or two sentences with dates and amounts, for example: "My bills for June, July and August were ₦32,000, ₦36,000 and ₦41,000 (example figures) although supply hours did not change."
  3. What you want: a bill review and credit, a meter, a band review or a repair date.
  4. Evidence: list each attachment.
  5. History: your previous reference numbers and dates.

Where you can afford it, pay the amount you accept as fair and state in writing which portion you are contesting; that separates the disputed sum from the rest of your account. When IBEDC agrees an adjustment, ask for it in writing and check that the credit appears on the following bill or meter statement.

What to check first

  • Your premises are in Oyo State; elsewhere a different regulator may apply.
  • You have an IBEDC reference before escalating.
  • You keep copies and dates of everything you send.
  • You use contacts from IBEDC's own site or your bill, not numbers posted by strangers on social media.

This is general information, not legal advice.

Where Pryme fits

Paying for power in the app keeps a dated record of every purchase, which helps in a token or billing dispute. Check under electricity whether your distributor is listed.

Questions people ask
