Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

IBEDC Band A shortfall: how refunds and downgrades work

What NERC requires when an IBEDC Band A feeder misses 20 hours: daily publication, downgrade after seven days and compensation for customers.

The short answer

Under NERC's July 2025 order for IBEDC (ORDER/NERC/2025/063), a Band A feeder that misses its committed supply for seven consecutive days is downgraded to the band it actually delivered, and affected customers are compensated. IBEDC must also publish each Band A feeder's rolling seven-day average supply hours daily, and explain any feeder that falls short for two days running.

What Band A promises, and what counts as a shortfall

Band A is the top service band in Nigeria's tariff structure. In NERC's July 2025 supplementary order for Ibadan Electricity Distribution Plc (IBEDC), Appendix 1 sets the minimum supply for Band A at 20 hours a day, against 16 for Band B, 12 for Band C, 8 for Band D and 4 for Band E. Band A customers pay the highest rate per kilowatt-hour, so the order treats a missed supply commitment as something IBEDC must answer for, not something the customer simply absorbs.

A shortfall is measured on the feeder, not your house. Your street is fed by a named 11kV or 33kV feeder, and NERC states that it pulls supply data for each Band A feeder directly from IBEDC's head-end system for near real-time monitoring (section 11(a) of the order). If your own building has a fault while the feeder is fine, that is a fault report, not a band shortfall. For the difference between bands generally, see NERC electricity bands A to E explained.

What the NERC order requires IBEDC to do

Section 11 of ORDER/NERC/2025/063, which took effect on 1 July 2025, lays down a sequence of duties:

TriggerWhat IBEDC must doDeadline in the order
Every dayPublish on its website the rolling 7-day average daily hours of supply on each Band A feederBy 09:00 the next day
Missed committed level for 2 consecutive daysPublish the reasons and tell affected customers when supply will return to the committed levelBy 10:00 the next day
Missed committed level for 7 consecutive daysFeeder is downgraded to the recorded level of supply, under section 6 of Order NERC/334/2022Applies once the seven days are reached
OngoingKeep a rapid response team for Band A complaints and fault clearing, and publish its contacts on the websiteContinuous

Section 12 then applies these rules to named feeders. Appendix 2 lists six IBEDC feeders to be downgraded to the commensurate band, with their customers compensated. Appendix 3 lists seven feeders that averaged more than 18 but up to 20 hours: their customers are compensated but the feeders stay in Band A. The order is internally untidy in places (section 12 cites a June review period while the appendix headers say May), so if your feeder is named, keep a copy of the PDF itself.

Downgrade versus compensation: what each means for your bill

  • Downgrade moves your feeder to the band matching the hours it delivered. In the order's tariff table (July 2024 to July 2025), Band A is ₦209.50/kWh for non-maximum-demand customers, while Bands B to E remain frozen at rates payable since December 2022 (for example ₦67.25/kWh for Band B non-MD). A downgrade therefore lowers what each unit costs you from the effective date.
  • Compensation addresses the period you paid Band A prices for less than Band A supply. The order points to the Order on Migration (NERC/334/2022) for how compensation is worked out; that order is not reproduced in the July 2025 document, and we could not open it, so we do not state a formula here.
  • ICIR's report on NERC's April 2025 tariff order, which named IBEDC among nine DisCos told to compensate Band A customers, describes compensation as given "either through electricity credit or by improving power supply". Ask IBEDC which form applies to your feeder.

Worked example (illustrative)

Example only. Suppose a household buys 150 kWh a month. At ₦209.50/kWh that energy costs 150 × 209.50 = ₦31,425. If the feeder is downgraded to Band B at ₦67.25/kWh, the same 150 kWh costs 150 × 67.25 = ₦10,087.50, a difference of ₦21,337.50 a month. Real receipts may also show VAT and any debt deduction, so compare like with like.

What to check first, and how to claim

  1. Find your feeder name. It is often printed on postpaid bills and token receipts; if not, ask IBEDC (see finding your IBEDC meter or account number).
  2. Check IBEDC's website for the daily seven-day average for that feeder, and screenshot it on days of poor supply.
  3. Check whether your feeder appears in Appendix 2 or 3 of the latest NERC order for IBEDC.
  4. Write to IBEDC (customercare@ibedc.com or the Make Complaints page) quoting the feeder, the order number and the dates, and ask when the downgrade or compensation will show on your account.
  5. If IBEDC does not resolve it, escalate to the NERC Forum, as set out in how to complain to IBEDC and escalate.

Oyo customers: check who regulates you

NERC transferred regulatory oversight of the Oyo State electricity market to the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OSERC) by an order dated 5 August 2024, with transfer to be completed by 5 February 2025 and an IBEDC subsidiary to take over supply in Oyo. NERC's July 2025 order still lists some Oyo feeders, so Oyo customers should confirm with IBEDC whether NERC or OSERC rules now govern their band.

Where Pryme fits

If you buy tokens through electricity payments in the Pryme app, every purchase sits in your history with its date and amount, which helps when you need to show IBEDC what you paid during a shortfall period. You can also generate a statement through Pryme's partner VerifyDoc.ai (receipts and statements).

Questions people ask

How many hours should Band A get from IBEDC?

NERC's July 2025 order for IBEDC sets Band A at a minimum of 20 hours of supply a day, measured on the feeder.

Will IBEDC refund me if my Band A light is poor?

The order requires compensation for customers on feeders that fell short. NERC refers to the Order on Migration for the method; ICIR reports compensation may come as electricity credit. Ask IBEDC in writing which applies to your feeder.

How long before IBEDC must downgrade my feeder?

Under section 11(e), a Band A feeder that misses its committed level for seven consecutive days is downgraded to the recorded level of supply.

Where do I see my feeder's supply hours?

The order requires IBEDC to publish each Band A feeder's rolling seven-day average on its website by 09:00 the next day.
