Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to become a Jumia seller: steps and commissions

The steps to open a Jumia seller account in Nigeria, what the Vendor Center asks for, and what Jumia does and does not publish about commission.

The short answer

You become a Jumia seller by registering through Jumia's seller sign-up, completing the business, identity and bank details it requests, and listing products in the Vendor Center once approved. Jumia does not publish a public table of Nigerian commission rates; your rate by category appears in your seller account and contract. Its own policy page uses a 5% commission only as a worked example.

Jumia is a marketplace: you list products, Jumia shows them to shoppers, handles checkout and much of the delivery, and pays you after deducting its fees. That is different from a classifieds site like Jiji, where you deal with the buyer yourself. The trade-off is less control over the customer in exchange for reach and logistics. This guide covers getting in, what Jumia publishes about its charges, and the rules that catch new sellers out.

Before you register

  • Decide what you will sell and check it is allowed. Jumia's performance policy treats counterfeit and prohibited items severely, including fines and shop closure.
  • Have a bank account in the same name as the seller account. Payouts go there.
  • Decide whether to sell as an individual or a registered business. If you choose to register a business name with the Corporate Affairs Commission, the CAC fee schedule gazetted on 29 May 2025 lists ₦1,000 for name reservation and ₦20,000 for business name registration with certified copies. See how to register a business name with CAC.
  • Work out your costs per product, including packaging, so you can price after commission.

Registration steps

  1. Go to Jumia's official seller sign-up for Nigeria from the 'Sell on Jumia' link on jumia.com.ng. Avoid agents who offer to 'open a Jumia account' for a fee.
  2. Enter your business or personal details, contact phone and email.
  3. Upload the identity and business documents the form asks for. The exact list is shown on the Nigerian form; we could not open a Nigerian page that sets it out, and Jumia's published rules page we found applies to Egypt, so do not rely on lists from other countries.
  4. Add bank details for payouts.
  5. Accept the seller agreement. Read the commission and fee schedule attached to it before you sign.
  6. Once approved, log in to the Vendor Center (also called Seller Center), create product listings and set stock levels.
  7. Choose how orders are fulfilled. Jumia's pages refer to Fulfilled by Jumia (FBJ), where stock sits in Jumia's warehouse.

What Jumia publishes about commission

Commission is a percentage of each sale that Jumia keeps. It varies by product category. We did not find a public Nigerian commission table on Jumia's vendor pages in October 2026. What Jumia does publish is how commission can rise if your service falls short.

Its seller performance policy, modified 28 April 2026, adds an extra operating fee on the previous week's commission according to your seller score:

Seller scoreExtra fee on last week's commission
3 and aboveNone
2.5 to under 3+20%
2 to under 2.5+30%
1.5 to under 2+50%
Below 1.5+75%

Jumia's own example

The policy uses a Nigerian example of ₦35,000 in sales at a 5% commission, which is ₦1,750. At the worst score the extra fee is 75% of that: ₦1,750 × 0.75 = ₦1,312.50, taking the total to ₦3,062.50 for the week. The 5% is Jumia's illustration, not a promise of your rate.

Rules that catch new sellers

  • Quality returns: the policy says FBJ products can be delisted when the quality return rate reaches 5% with at least 5 quality returns in a month.
  • Counterfeits: the policy lists fines of USD 200 per seller weekly for online counterfeit SKUs and USD 200 per product found in returns, and shop delisting after three counterfeit or two prohibited-item incidents.
  • Returns: customers can usually return within a window Jumia describes as 7 to 15 days; see Jumia returns and penalties.
  • Payout timing: local-currency sales are billed by calendar month and paid five business days after the cycle closes, per Jumia's finance FAQ; more in Jumia seller fees and payout.

What to check first

  1. The commission rate for your exact category in your contract or Vendor Center.
  2. Any fees for fulfilment, storage or delivery listed in your agreement.
  3. That your bank account name matches your seller account.
  4. That you can keep your seller score at 3 or above, by shipping on time and describing products accurately.

Pricing so commission does not eat the margin

New sellers often copy the price of a similar listing and only later find the payout leaves nothing. Price from the bottom up instead: start with what the item costs you, add packaging and any delivery or fulfilment charge in your agreement, then work out the price at which commission still leaves the profit you want.

Example: a handbag costs you ₦9,000 and packaging ₦500. You want ₦3,000 profit per sale. With an assumed 12% commission, the price P must satisfy P − 0.12P = ₦12,500, so P = ₦12,500 ÷ 0.88 = about ₦14,205; round to ₦14,300. At that price commission is ₦1,716 and you keep ₦12,584, which covers the ₦9,500 cost and leaves ₦3,084. If a dip in your seller score adds 20% to commission that week, commission on this bag rises to about ₦2,059 and profit falls to about ₦2,741, which is why the score matters. The 12% is assumed; use the rate in your contract.

Compare your bottom-up price with similar listings. If it is well above them, the product may not suit the marketplace at your cost price, or you may need a cheaper supplier.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account can receive Jumia payouts into a naira account set aside for the shop, and the Finance agent can prepare a monthly reconciliation of payouts against orders for you to approve. If you also sell directly, Pryme's bank-transfer checkout is free. See the Finance agent.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to register on Jumia as a seller?

Jumia's pages we opened do not list a registration fee for Nigeria. Check the sign-up form and seller agreement. If you register a business name with CAC, the May 2025 fee schedule lists ₦1,000 for reservation and ₦20,000 for registration.

What percentage does Jumia take from sellers in Nigeria?

Commission varies by category and is shown in your seller account and contract. Jumia's own policy example uses 5%, but that is an illustration, not a published rate.

Do I need CAC registration to sell on Jumia?

The Nigerian sign-up form states what it requires. We could not confirm a Nigerian document list from a page we opened, so check the form before you start.

How long does Jumia take to pay sellers?

For local-currency sales, Jumia's finance FAQ says billing runs by calendar month and payment is made five business days after the cycle closes.
