Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to access Salad Africa salary advance through your employer

How employer-linked salary advance through Salad Africa works, who can use it, the steps to sign up and request money and how repayment comes out of pay.

The short answer

Salad Africa's salary advance is reached through your employer: your company signs up with Salad, you register with your work details, and you can then request part of the salary you have already earned before payday. The advance is repaid from your salary on payday, deducted by your employer under the arrangement. If your employer has not partnered with Salad Africa, you cannot use the employer route, and any charge is shown in the app before you confirm.

How employer-linked salary advance works

Employer-linked advance, sometimes called earned wage access, is different from a loan app. Instead of a lender guessing your income from phone data, your employer confirms who you are, what you earn and when you are paid. The advance is limited to a portion of the salary you have already worked for in the current month, and it is recovered from that month's pay. Because the employer is part of the arrangement, there is usually no credit-bureau-led decision of the kind a personal loan needs.

Salad Africa is a Nigerian company offering this kind of arrangement to employers. Our explainer on salary advance in Nigeria covers the wider market, and our Salad Africa review looks at the company itself.

Who can use it

  • Employees of a company that has signed up with Salad Africa. This is the deciding condition.
  • Staff on the employer's payroll list, usually confirmed and permanent. Some employers exclude probation or contract staff.
  • People whose salary is paid into a Nigerian bank account in their own name.
  • Staff whose details on the employer's list match their BVN and phone number.

If your employer is not on Salad, the practical step is to raise it with HR or finance. Employers weigh such schemes on cost, payroll admin and staff welfare, so a short note explaining how many colleagues borrow from loan apps before payday can help the case.

Steps to access the advance

  1. Confirm with HR that your employer works with Salad Africa and ask how staff are enrolled.
  2. Download the Salad app from the official app store or use the link your employer provides.
  3. Register with your phone number and the work email or staff ID your employer has on record.
  4. Verify your identity with your BVN and confirm your bank account.
  5. Once your employer's records confirm you, the app shows how much of your earned salary you can request.
  6. Enter the amount, read the charge and the repayment date (your next payday) and confirm.
  7. The money is paid to your bank account. On payday, the advance and charge are deducted from your salary under the employer's arrangement.

Worked example: payday after an advance

This is an example; your employer's cap and Salad Africa's charge are shown in the app. Suppose your monthly salary is ₦200,000, you request an advance on the 15th, your employer caps advances at 50% of salary earned so far, and the charge is a flat ₦1,500.

ItemCalculationAmount
Salary earned by the 15th (half the month)₦200,000 ÷ 2₦100,000
Maximum advance at a 50% cap₦100,000 × 50%₦50,000
Charge (example)Flat₦1,500
Deducted on payday₦50,000 + ₦1,500₦51,500
Salary received on payday₦200,000 − ₦51,500₦148,500

Here the ₦1,500 is 3% of the ₦50,000 advanced for about two weeks. Compare that with what a loan app would charge for the same sum and period. The Salad Africa charges and limit guide covers how its fees are stated.

Things to understand before you use it

  • Your employer knows you use it, because deductions run through payroll.
  • An advance every month means you live on a smaller salary and pay a charge each time.
  • If you leave your job, ask how any outstanding advance will be settled from your final pay.
  • Keep copies of payslips showing the deductions, and check they match the app.

If a deduction looks wrong, raise it with HR and with Salad Africa's support in writing, attaching the payslip and the app record. Payroll errors are easier to correct within the same month.

For employers: what joining involves

If you run a business or work in HR and are weighing a salary advance scheme, the questions to put to any provider, Salad Africa included, are practical ones. Who carries the credit risk if an employee leaves before payday? What does the payroll team need to do each month, and how are deductions reconciled? What data about staff does the provider receive, and how is it protected? Which staff can use it, and can the employer set a cap below the provider's maximum?

Ask, too, what the scheme costs the employer, if anything, and what it costs staff on each advance, so the charge can be explained plainly in an internal notice. Employers who introduce a scheme often pair it with simple guidance on budgeting, so that the advance is used for the occasional gap rather than every month. A clear written policy, shared with staff before launch, avoids disputes about deductions later.

Where Pryme fits

Salary advance helps with any cash need. For spending with a merchant such as a pharmacy or grocery store, Pryme's Loans on Spaces is another option: Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank may offer a limit based on how your Pryme account is run, and you accept the agreement before spending.

Questions people ask

Can I use Salad Africa if my company is not registered?

Not through the employer route. The employer arrangement is what confirms your salary and handles repayment. Ask HR whether the company will consider it.

How much can I get from Salad Africa salary advance?

A portion of salary already earned in the month, up to the cap your employer and Salad set. The app shows your available amount.

How is Salad Africa salary advance repaid?

It is deducted from your salary on payday under your employer's arrangement.

Does Salad Africa check my credit score?

The decision rests mainly on employer confirmation of your salary. Read the terms in the app for the checks that apply to you.
