Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

How often credit reports are updated in Nigeria

Bureaus must update whenever lenders submit, but each lender's submission cycle sets the lag. Why a payment can take weeks to appear, and what to do.

The short answer

A Nigerian credit report changes when your lender sends new data, not when you pay. The Credit Reporting Act 2017 requires bureaus to update their databases whenever a provider submits information and leaves the submission timeframe to the CBN, so the delay depends on how often your lender reports; ask your lender for its cycle and check your report after it.

Two clocks, not one

There are two steps between your payment and your report:

  1. Your lender submits data to the bureau. Section 20(1)(i) of the Credit Reporting Act 2017 makes it an offence for a provider or a bureau to fail to submit or update data "within the timeframe stipulated under this Act or within such other time frame that may be specified by the Bank" (the CBN).
  2. The bureau loads it. Section 3(3)(b) requires bureaus to keep their databases updated "on an on-going basis", updating "as often as necessary" and "whenever information is provided by a credit information provider".

So the bureau side is meant to be continuous. The lag comes mainly from the lender's side: how often it compiles and sends its loan book.

Why a payment may not show yet

  • Batch reporting. Many institutions submit data in batches rather than one loan at a time. FirstCentral, for example, offers lenders monthly or quarterly portfolio reports on their own customers, which shows that periodic cycles are normal in the industry.
  • Processing and rejections. A record with a mismatched name or identifier may be rejected and resubmitted later.
  • Different bureaus, different timing. A lender may send to one bureau earlier than another, or not at all.
  • Your payment date. A payment made just after a lender's cut-off waits for the next cycle.

A worked example of lag

Example only. Suppose a lender compiles its data at the end of each month and sends it during the first week of the next.

EventExample dateWhat the report shows
You pay the final instalment3 MarchStill open, with the February balance
Lender compiles its March data31 MarchUnchanged until the bureau receives it
Lender submits to the bureau6 AprilBureau loads the update
You pull a fresh report15 AprilClosed, balance ₦0

In this example a payment on 3 March would appear about six weeks later. A lender that reports more often would close the gap; one that reports less often would widen it.

The same lag works the other way. A missed payment may not appear on your report for several weeks either, which is why a report that looks clean today is not proof that last month's late payment went unrecorded. When a lender later sends the full payment history, the bureau records each month as it was: on time, late, or missed. Catching up quickly limits the damage, because the history then shows a short lapse followed by payment, rather than a growing arrear.

What else changes on a report, and when

Repayments are not the only updates. Each of these appears only when someone sends it to the bureau:

  • New facilities appear after the lender's next submission, so a loan taken today may not show to another lender checking tomorrow.
  • Enquiries are created when a lender requests your report, not by a lender's periodic submission. CRC says its reports list who asked and when.
  • Personal details change when a lender submits updated details. Section 10 of the Act puts the duty on you to tell your lenders when your details change.
  • Corrections after a dispute follow the section 13 timeline. When a lender admits an error and sends rectified data, the bureau must issue you a corrected copy free of charge under section 6(1)(g).

When to act

If your report still shows a repaid loan as open after a reasonable time, dispute it. You need not wait indefinitely: the Act gives the lender or bureau 10 working days to answer a written complaint (section 13), and a bureau must flag the entry as under dispute while it investigates. See how to dispute an error. Remember the 15-working-day window from receipt of the report in section 9(6)(b).

Steps: time a report around an application

  1. Ask your lender in writing how often it reports and to which bureaus.
  2. Get a closing letter or statement when you clear a loan.
  3. Wait one full cycle, then pull your free report; see the free report rule.
  4. Bring proof to any new lender if a recent repayment has not yet shown. A verifiable statement is easier for a lender to trust.
  5. Avoid many applications while you wait; each lender check is recorded. See applying to many lenders.

Where Pryme fits

Any Pryme customer can generate a regular or a verifiable statement or receipt through VerifyDoc.ai, and anyone can verify that a verifiable one is genuine and unaltered; that can help while a bureau update is pending. Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, the lender, uses credit bureaus for Loans on Spaces.

Questions people ask

How long does it take for a paid loan to reflect on my credit report?

It depends on when your lender next sends data to the bureau. If the loan still shows as open a couple of months after you paid, dispute it in writing.

Do credit bureaus in Nigeria update daily?

The Act requires bureaus to update whenever a lender submits data. How often your record changes depends on how often your lender reports.

Why is my credit score not changing after repayment?

The bureau may not have received your lender's update yet, or the record may have been rejected. Ask your lender when it last reported, then check your report.

Can I ask my lender to update the credit bureau quickly?

You can ask in writing, with your closing letter. If the report remains wrong, the lender must answer a written complaint within 10 working days under the Act.
