Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Failed GTBank transaction not reversed: how to dispute it

The reversal timelines GTBank and the CBN publish for ATM, POS, web and transfer failures, the proof to keep, and how to dispute a debit.

The short answer

GTBank says a failed withdrawal on its own ATM is reversed within 24 hours, on another bank's ATM within 5 to 8 days, and an international dispense error within 45 days. CBN rules set 48 hours for failed POS and web payments; if your money is not back by then, report it to GTBank in writing with the receipt, session ID or STAN, and escalate to the CBN if it stays unresolved.

First, find out what kind of failure it was

"Failed transaction" covers several different problems, and each has its own clock and its own evidence:

What happenedWho usually fixes itPublished timeline
GTBank card, GTBank ATM, no cashGTBankReversed within 24 hours (GTBank)
GTBank card, another bank's ATM, no cashGTBank via the other bank5 to 8 days (GTBank); 48 hours for not-on-us ATM under CBN 2020 circular
ATM abroad, no cashGTBank via the card scheme45 days (GTBank)
POS or online card payment debited but failedMerchant's bank and GTBank48 hours (CBN 2020 circular)
Transfer debited but not receivedGTBank and the receiving bankDepends on the case; see below

The GTBank timelines are from its Complaints & Enquiries page, read in October 2026. The CBN figures come from its circular reducing chargeback periods, dated 29 May 2020 and effective 8 June 2020, as summarised by Mondaq: instant reversal for on-us ATM failures (24 hours if that fails), 48 hours for not-on-us ATM failures, and 48 hours for failed POS and web refunds. Where GTBank's own page and the CBN summary differ, as on other-bank ATMs, quote both in your complaint.

The proof to keep

  • ATM: the slip, if one printed. GTBank's page says it needs the 6-digit STAN (system trace audit number) on that slip to process a dispense error, along with the date, time, amount and ATM location.
  • POS: the declined or failed POS receipt from the merchant, and the debit alert.
  • Online card payment: the order page or email showing the payment failed, and the debit.
  • Transfer: the receipt showing the session ID, the beneficiary's account number and name, and the time.

Screenshot alerts the moment they arrive. A clear record of date, time and amount is what turns a complaint into a quick reversal.

How to dispute it with GTBank

  1. Wait for the published window. GTBank's page says dispense errors can be reported once they have not been reversed within 24 hours.
  2. Report in writing to gtbankmailsupport@gtbank.com, or call GTConnect (numbers in GTBank customer care contacts) and follow up by email.
  3. Give the account number, card's last four digits if relevant, date, time, amount, channel, location and STAN or session ID. Never send your PIN or full card number.
  4. Ask for a reference and the expected date of the reversal.
  5. Check your statement: a reversal often appears as a separate credit, not as a deletion of the debit.

Transfers that left but never arrived

If a transfer was debited but the recipient's bank shows nothing, give GTBank the session ID so it can trace it through NIBSS. Under the CBN's regulation on instant inter-bank transfers (2018), as summarised by Mondaq, a transfer that went wrong because of a bank error can be reversed without the beneficiary's authorisation if the request is made within 14 working days; if the mistake was the customer's, such as a wrong account number, the beneficiary's consent is needed. That second case is covered in reversing a wrong GTBank transfer.

When to escalate

If the timeline has passed and GTBank has not reversed the money or given a clear reason, write to the CBN's Consumer Protection Department with your evidence and proof that you complained to the bank first. The CBN's complaints page refers to a two-week period for banks to respond. Our step-by-step guide is escalating a GTBank complaint to the CBN.

Worked example

Example only. On a Saturday, Emeka tries to withdraw ₦20,000 from another bank's ATM with his GTBank card. No cash comes out but he is debited ₦20,000 plus a ₦35 withdrawal charge. He keeps the slip with the STAN. By the following Saturday, 7 days later, nothing has come back. He emails GTBank with the STAN and claims ₦20,035 (₦20,000 + ₦35). When GTBank's 8-day outer limit passes without a reply, he follows up, and after two weeks without resolution he writes to the CBN.

The withdrawal charge in this example is illustrative; check your own statement for the actual charge.

Mistakes that slow a reversal

  • Reporting without the STAN or session ID, so the bank must search for the transaction.
  • Sending several complaints through different channels, which can open separate cases.
  • Disputing a POS transaction with the merchant only; the merchant's bank and yours need the formal report.
  • Waiting months before complaining. Report as soon as the published window passes.

If the same failure happens often at one ATM or merchant, mention it in your complaint. It helps the bank find a faulty terminal, and it shows a pattern if you later write to the CBN. For how chargebacks work from the merchant side, see chargebacks and reversals in Nigeria.

Charges on the failed transaction

If you were charged a fee for a withdrawal or transfer that failed, include the fee in your claim. A reversal should return the full amount debited, not just the principal. Check the reversal credit against the original debit line by line.

Questions people ask

How long does it take GTBank to reverse a failed transaction?

GTBank says failed withdrawals on its own ATMs are reversed within 24 hours, on other banks' ATMs within 5 to 8 days, and international dispense errors within 45 days. CBN rules set 48 hours for failed POS and web refunds.

What is STAN on an ATM receipt?

It is the system trace audit number, a 6-digit reference printed on the ATM slip. GTBank's page says it needs the STAN to process a dispense error.

How do I complain about a failed transaction on GTBank?

Email gtbankmailsupport@gtbank.com or call GTConnect with the date, time, amount, channel and STAN or session ID, then follow up in writing.

What if GTBank does not refund my money?

After the published timeline and a reasonable wait (the CBN refers to two weeks), write to the CBN Consumer Protection Department with proof that you complained to GTBank first.
