Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Opening a GTBank domiciliary account: requirements

The documents GTBank lists for a dollar, pound or euro account, how money can go in and out, and the questions to ask about balances and charges.

The short answer

GTBank offers domiciliary accounts in US dollars, pounds and euros. Its own page lists a completed opening form, a valid ID, one passport photograph, two reference forms and a utility bill from the last three months; it does not state a minimum opening balance, so confirm that and the charges at the branch.

What a domiciliary account is

A domiciliary account holds foreign currency inside a Nigerian bank. Money that arrives in dollars stays in dollars: you are not forced to convert it to naira. That makes it useful for freelancers and exporters paid from abroad, families receiving support from relatives overseas, people saving towards school fees or travel, and anyone who wants part of their savings in a harder currency. For the risks and trade-offs see saving in dollars in Nigeria.

What GTBank asks for

GTBank's Domiciliary Accounts page, read in October 2026, lists the following:

RequirementNotes
Domiciliary account opening formCompleted and signed
IdentificationDriver's licence, international passport, national ID card or another acceptable ID
Passport photographOne
Reference formsTwo, completed
Utility billIssued within the last three months

Currencies on the page are US dollar, pound sterling and euro. You will also need a BVN, because Nigerian banks link every account to one; if you already bank with GTBank in naira, the branch can use your existing record. Non-residents should ask about the extra documents for foreigners, such as a residence permit.

References

Reference forms are usually completed by holders of current accounts at a Nigerian bank. Ask your branch who qualifies and give your referees the forms early: references are often the slowest part of opening the account.

Minimum balance and charges

The GTBank page does not state a minimum opening balance, monthly maintenance charge or cash handling fee. Ask for the current tariff before you deposit. The CBN's Guide to Charges (effective 1 January 2020) applies to all banks and sets ceilings on many items, including US$10 a year for maintenance on a foreign-currency card if you request one.

How money can go in and out

GTBank's page describes these movements:

  • In: foreign-currency cash deposits, foreign-currency cheque lodgements, travellers' cheques, and transfers from abroad.
  • Out: foreign-currency transfers to other banks' domiciliary accounts in Nigeria and abroad.
  • Cash: foreign-currency cash withdrawals at any GTBank branch.

Cash rules for domiciliary accounts have changed several times under CBN circulars, and banks may require you to explain the source of large cash deposits. Before relying on cash in or out, check the current position with the branch; our guide on withdrawing dollar cash from a domiciliary account explains the general picture.

Receiving money from abroad

Senders will need your domiciliary account number, the account name exactly as GTBank holds it, and the bank's SWIFT details; see GTBank SWIFT and sort codes. Ask whether GTBank uses an intermediary bank for your currency, as some international senders need that too.

Steps

  1. Decide the currency: dollars, pounds or euros (you can open more than one).
  2. Collect ID, a passport photo and a utility bill under three months old.
  3. Get the two reference forms from the branch and have them completed.
  4. Submit everything at a GTBank branch and ask for the tariff, minimum balance and the account's SWIFT/intermediary details.
  5. Make the first deposit or ask a sender abroad to transfer in, then check the credit on your statement.

Worked example

Example only. Chioma receives US$600 a month from a client abroad. Into a domiciliary account the US$600 stays as dollars; if her bank's sender-side charges took US$15, she would see US$585. She can then choose when to convert, or keep the dollars for a later school fee. Into a naira-only account, the money would arrive converted at whatever rate applied on the day.

Why applications stall

  • References not returned, or signed by someone the bank does not accept.
  • Utility bill older than three months, or in another person's name without a supporting letter.
  • Name mismatch between your ID, BVN and the form, for example a missing middle name.
  • Unclear source of funds for a large first deposit. Be ready to say where the money comes from.

Fixing these before you go saves a second trip. If you already hold a GTBank naira account in good standing, ask whether the branch can rely on your existing KYC for part of the process.

For businesses

GTBank lists its domiciliary accounts under business banking, and companies can hold them too. A company will need its registration documents and board approval in addition to signatories' IDs. See business domiciliary accounts in Nigeria for the general requirements.

Keeping the account active

A domiciliary account that sees no activity for a long period can be classed as dormant under bank and CBN rules, which then needs reactivation paperwork. If you open one for occasional use, make a small credit or transfer from time to time, and keep your contact details current so the bank can reach you about any change in rules or charges.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Personal and Business accounts can be opened from any country and hold NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each; money stays in the currency it arrived in and Swap converts only when you approve. Compare the two models in domiciliary vs multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

What are the requirements for opening a domiciliary account in GTBank?

GTBank's page lists a completed opening form, valid ID, one passport photograph, two reference forms and a utility bill issued in the last three months.

What is the minimum balance for GTBank domiciliary account?

GTBank's domiciliary page does not state one. Ask the branch for the current minimum opening balance and charges.

Can I open a GTBank domiciliary account online?

GTBank's domiciliary page does not describe online opening; it lists a form and references, which are usually handled at a branch. Ask GTConnect whether a digital route is available for existing customers.

Can I withdraw dollars from my GTBank domiciliary account?

GTBank's page says foreign-currency cash withdrawals are available at any GTBank branch. Check current CBN cash rules and any charges with the branch first.
