Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sending groceries to family in Nigeria instead of cash

How ordering groceries online for family in Nigeria works, when it beats sending cash, and the checks that make delivery orders worth it.

The short answer

Ordering groceries for family in Nigeria means paying a supermarket, market-shopping service or delivery app in naira for a basket delivered to their door. It beats cash when you want the money spent on food, when a parent cannot easily get to the market, or when you want a record; cash is usually better where market prices are lower than delivered prices and your family knows what they need. Under the FCCPA, a seller must give a written record of every transaction.

Sending money home for food is a monthly habit for many Nigerians abroad. Ordering the groceries yourself is an alternative that has grown with online shops and personal-shopper services in big cities. It is not always cheaper, but it can be the better choice for elderly parents or when you want certainty about what the money buys. This guide explains how it works and how to decide.

How it works

There are three common routes, and availability depends heavily on the city:

RouteHow you orderTypical use
Supermarket with online orderingWebsite or app; you pay; the store delivers or the family collectsPackaged goods, toiletries, staples in Lagos, Abuja and other large cities
Market shopping serviceSend a list by message; a shopper buys at the market and deliversFresh food, foodstuff in bulk, local items
Family's own trusted traderPay the trader's account; a relative collectsRice, beans, oil and other bulk items monthly

Before your first order, confirm the service delivers to your family's address, the delivery charge and window, and how substitutions work when an item is out of stock.

When groceries beat cash

  • A parent is elderly, unwell or cannot easily get to the market.
  • You want the money spent on food, not redirected to other pressing requests.
  • You want a record of what was bought, for yourself or for siblings who share the cost.
  • Prices in a well-stocked supermarket are close to what your family pays locally.

When cash is better

  • Your family buys at a local market where prices are lower than delivered supermarket prices.
  • They know what they need week by week and value the flexibility.
  • Delivery is unreliable or expensive to their area.
  • Much of what they eat is fresh produce best bought on the day.

Many families combine the two: a monthly bulk order of staples delivered, plus a smaller cash allowance for fresh food. Our guide to setting a monthly allowance for parents helps size the cash part.

Comparing the cost

Food prices are rising fast, and that cuts both ways. The National Bureau of Statistics, as reported by Voice of Nigeria on 16 October 2026, put food inflation at 19.59% year on year in September 2026, though food prices fell 1.55% on the month. A fixed cash amount buys less each month; a basket you order shows you the new price each time.

Worked example

An example only, with illustrative prices. Your mother's monthly staples (rice, beans, garri, oil, tomato paste, noodles, toiletries) cost ₦95,000 at her local market. A supermarket order of the same basket costs ₦108,000 plus ₦4,000 delivery, so ₦112,000. The difference is ₦112,000 − ₦95,000 = ₦17,000 a month. If she cannot get to the market without a ₦10,000 round trip by taxi, the real gap is ₦7,000, which may be worth paying for convenience and a record.

Your rights as a buyer

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 applies to these sellers. A Mondaq summary by FE Fred-Young & Evans notes the consumer's right to a written record of every transaction, and section 123 bars traders from false or misleading representations about the nature or price of goods, including in-store displays and packaging. If items arrive damaged or wrong, raise it with the seller at once, with photos, and keep the order confirmation.

Practical checks

  1. Start with a small order to test delivery, freshness and substitutions.
  2. Ask your family to photograph the delivery and check it against the order.
  3. Agree a delivery window when someone is at home.
  4. Pay into the business's account, not an individual's, unless it is a trader your family knows well.
  5. Keep order confirmations and receipts together for siblings sharing the cost.

Setting up a monthly routine

If groceries work for your family, make them predictable. Agree a standard list with your parents, send it on the same day each month, and ask them to add or remove items a few days before. Keep last month's order confirmation, so you can compare prices and see which items rose. Where a service offers saved lists or repeat orders, use them; where it does not, a message template to a trusted shopper does the same job.

Elderly parents and delivery

For older parents, delivery solves the trip to the market but can create other problems: heavy bags left at the gate, a delivery rider at the door at night, or items they did not want. Ask the service to deliver in daylight, to carry goods inside, and to call a named relative if no one answers. A neighbour or sibling who checks the first few deliveries helps you see whether the service suits your parents.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme account you can hold naira and pay a supermarket, a shopping service or your family's trader directly from abroad with Send. In Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, family members with Pryme accounts may also be able to shop with grocery merchants in Spaces, Pryme's merchant ecosystem, which is a pilot in those cities.

Questions people ask

Can I order groceries for my parents in Nigeria from abroad?

Yes, in many cities. Supermarkets with online ordering and market-shopping services deliver to the door, and you pay in naira from abroad.

Is it cheaper to send groceries or cash to Nigeria?

Often cash is cheaper if your family buys at a local market. Delivered groceries can still be better value when a parent cannot get to the market or you want the money spent on food.

What if the groceries delivered are wrong or damaged?

Raise it with the seller at once with photos and the order confirmation. The FCCPA gives consumers a right to a written record of transactions and bars misleading representations about goods.

Can I set up a monthly grocery order for family in Nigeria?

Some services offer repeat orders; otherwise a monthly list sent to a trusted trader or shopper works well. Pay on a fixed date and review prices each month.
