Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

Can a Nigerian-owned firm bid for Ghana government contracts?

Ghana tenders run under Act 663 as amended by Act 914. How GHANEPS works, where foreign-owned bidders lose margin, and how to spot fake tenders.

The short answer

Yes. Ghana's Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663), as amended by Act 914 of 2016, does not bar foreign-owned firms, and open tenders are listed on the GHANEPS e-procurement portal. But purchases below set thresholds are reserved for local companies, and the PPA's draft margin-of-preference guidelines favour majority Ghanaian-owned contractors on works and locally made goods, so a Nigerian-owned firm usually competes best through a Ghanaian company or partner.

Public buying in Ghana runs under the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663), amended by the Public Procurement (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 914). The Public Procurement Authority (PPA) oversees the system; ministries, agencies and assemblies run their own tender committees and buy directly. The US International Trade Administration's Ghana guide, last published 6 August 2025, adds context: fewer than 1% of tenders are international competitive tenders, Ghana is not party to the WTO Agreement on Government Procurement, and purchases below a set threshold are reserved for local companies.

So the real question for a Nigerian-owned firm is not 'am I allowed?' but 'which tenders am I eligible for, and at what disadvantage?'

Finding tenders: GHANEPS

The Ghana Electronic Procurement System (GHANEPS) lists open government tenders, and suppliers register online to receive notifications. Tenders must also be published in the Public Procurement Bulletin and on ppa.gov.gh. The ITA guide recommends using GHANEPS to check whether an unsolicited tender is real.

We could not open the PPA's current supplier-registration requirements for this article. Expect a Ghanaian bidder to need, at least, its ORC registration and tax registration; check each tender document's eligibility section, which is binding for that tender.

Where foreign ownership costs you points

The PPA's margin-of-preference guidelines, issued under section 60(3) of Act 663 and marked as a draft pending Parliament's approval, show how evaluation can tilt toward local suppliers. The ITA guide separately reports a 15 to 20% margin for goods meeting local content requirements.

CategoryWho qualifiesMargin in draft guidelines
Goods, local content at least 15% of ex-works priceAny tenderer; based on where the goods come from20%
Goods, at least 10% domestic value addedAny tenderer15%
Works: domestic contractorIncorporated in Ghana, majority Ghanaian shareholding, no more than 50% subcontracted to foreign firms10%
Works: joint ventureDomestic partner could not qualify alone and holds at least 30% beneficial interest7.5%
Works: foreign firmCommits to subcontract at least 30% to a domestic contractor7.5%
ServicesGhanaian key personnel: at least 10 technical points where 40% of key staff are Ghanaian10 to 15 points

Read the 'domestic contractor' line closely. A Ghanaian company that a Nigerian owns outright is incorporated in Ghana but is not majority Ghanaian-owned, so on this draft it would not get the full domestic margin on works. Goods are different: the margin follows the goods, not the owner, so a Nigerian-owned plant in Ghana making local goods can benefit. Because the guidelines are a draft, each tender document says which margin applies.

Practical routes

  1. Bid through your Ghanaian company, registered with the ORC and, because it has foreign participation, with the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority before operating (AELEX, May 2026). See GIPA registration for a Nigerian-owned company.
  2. Form a joint venture with a Ghanaian firm, with real ownership and roles written down. Never present a Ghanaian as owner when you control the business: Ghana's 2026 investment law prohibits fronting.
  3. Subcontract to the main contractor on large projects.
  4. Staff with Ghanaian key personnel on services bids to earn local-expertise points.

Example (illustration only)

Example: two bids for a works contract are read at GH₵10 million (Nigerian-owned Ghanaian company, no preference) and GH₵10.8 million (majority Ghanaian contractor, 10% margin). For comparison only, the evaluator adds 10% to the bid without preference: GH₵11 million. The local bid, at GH₵10.8 million, now ranks first despite being dearer. A joint venture qualifying for 7.5% would narrow, not close, that gap. Check how the tender document applies the margin.

What to check first

  • Is the tender national or international, and is it above the threshold reserved for local firms?
  • Which margin of preference, if any, does the tender document apply?
  • Does the tender ask for a bid security or performance guarantee, and can your bank issue one in time?
  • Is the funding source clear? The ITA guide says bids gain value when they identify funding and include a feasibility study, especially on large projects.
  • Are your ORC, GIPA and tax registrations current? See tax clearance for a Ghana business.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account can hold the naira and dollar side of a group that bids in Ghana. The Compliance agent can track registration renewal dates so a lapsed certificate does not knock out a bid.

Questions people ask

Can a foreign company bid for government contracts in Ghana?

Yes. Act 663 as amended does not bar them, but purchases below set thresholds are reserved for local companies and many tenders are national.

What is GHANEPS?

The Ghana Electronic Procurement System, an online portal listing open government tenders where suppliers can register for notifications.

What is the margin of preference in Ghana procurement?

An evaluation advantage for domestic goods, works and services. The PPA's draft guidelines set 15 to 20% for qualifying goods, 10% for majority Ghanaian-owned works contractors and 7.5% for qualifying joint ventures or foreign firms that subcontract 30% locally.

Does a Nigerian-owned Ghana company count as a domestic contractor?

Not under the draft works rule, which needs majority Ghanaian shareholding. Goods preferences depend on local content, not ownership.
