Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Getting paid by a Nigerian client through Payoneer

How a US freelancer can receive money from a Nigerian company through Payoneer: receiving accounts, payment requests, the fees Payoneer lists, and limits.

The short answer

A Nigerian company can pay a US freelancer's Payoneer account in two main ways: by sending a dollar transfer to the freelancer's Payoneer receiving account details, or by paying a Payoneer payment request by card or bank debit. Payoneer's fees page (updated 1 January 2026) lists receiving into a non-local-currency receiving account at 1% (minimum $1), card payments by the payer at up to 3.99% plus $0.49, and payments from another Payoneer customer as free.

Payoneer is popular with freelancers who sell to clients in many countries, and some Nigerian companies already use it. Whether it suits a particular Nigerian client depends on how that client can send money. This guide sets out the routes and the fees as Payoneer publishes them, and the points to confirm before you put Payoneer details on an invoice. We do not rank providers; check the current terms in your own account.

How a client can pay into Payoneer

RouteHow it worksFee shown on Payoneer's page (1 Jan 2026)
Client is also a Payoneer customerPays from its Payoneer balance to yoursFree
Bank transfer to your receiving accountClient sends to the bank details Payoneer gives you for a currencyFree in your local currency; 1% (minimum $1) into a non-local-currency receiving account

Payment request, paid by US ACH debitPayer pays from a US bank account1%, payer
Payment request, paid from an EU or UK bankPayer pays from a European bank account1%, payer

For a US freelancer, a USD receiving account is local currency. A Nigerian client sending dollars to it would normally do so by international wire from a domiciliary account. Payoneer's fees page does not mention Nigeria, so confirm in your account which payers and transfer types your USD receiving account accepts, and whether international wires are accepted into it, before giving the details to a Nigerian client.

What the Nigerian client has to do

  • Have dollars to send, usually in a domiciliary account, or buy them through its bank.
  • Satisfy its bank's documentation. Under the CBN FX Manual effective 1 June 2026, Form A is no longer required for outward remittances from a self-funded dom account, according to Pavestones Legal; the bank will still want your invoice.
  • Deduct Nigerian withholding tax where it applies; PwC's summary lists 10% for non-residents on professional fees.
  • Make sure the beneficiary name it uses matches your Payoneer account name exactly.

Paying by card through a payment request is possible, but a Nigerian card may be subject to its issuing bank's international spending limits, so a large invoice could fail. The client should check with its bank first.

Fees on the way out

Getting money out of Payoneer has its own costs, per the same page:

  • Withdrawal to a bank in the same country and currency: $1.50.
  • Cross-border withdrawals, with or without conversion: 1.2% to 4%, depending on the corridor.
  • Currency conversion on bank transfers: 1.2% to 4%, depending on the corridor.
  • Annual account fee: $29.95 if the account receives less than $6,000 in any 12 consecutive months.

Worked example (illustration only)

Invoice
$2,000 to a Lagos agency, gross
Withholding tax at 10%
$200 deducted in Nigeria; $1,800 sent
Into your USD receiving account
Local currency for you: no Payoneer receiving fee listed, but intermediary banks may deduct charges on the wire
Withdraw to your US bank
$1.50
If the client paid by card instead
Up to 3.99% + $0.49 on $1,800 = up to $72.31, charged to the client

Fees change. Check Payoneer's current fees page and the figures in your account before you agree terms.

Records for your US return

Payoneer receipts are business income in dollars for Schedule C, whatever route the client used. Keep the Payoneer transaction record, the invoice, and the withholding receipt. Fees are business expenses. See recordkeeping for freelancers paid in naira and dollars.

What to check first

  1. Which receiving accounts your Payoneer account shows, and any restrictions on payer type or transfer type.
  2. Whether the client can send dollars, and from which account.
  3. Who bears the card or bank debit fee if the client pays a request.
  4. That the beneficiary name matches.
  5. Alternatives the client may find easier, such as paying naira locally; see getting paid by Nigerian clients into a US account.

Comparing it with other routes

Before choosing Payoneer for a Nigerian client, compare the full cost on each route for that client: what the client pays to send, what is deducted in transit, what you pay to receive and withdraw, and how long it takes. A client paying from a dom account by wire to your US bank, a client paying naira locally into a naira account in your name, and a Payoneer route each put costs in different places. Ask the client which it can do most easily, because a payment its bank will not process costs you more than any fee.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account, which can be opened from the US, gives you naira account details as well as USD, so a Nigerian client that only holds naira can pay you by ordinary local transfer, with no dollars to buy and no wire to send. The money stays in naira until you choose to convert with Swap, which shows the rate and fee before you approve. See business multicurrency.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian company pay into my Payoneer account?

It can send dollars to your Payoneer receiving account or pay a payment request by card or bank debit. Confirm in your account which payers and transfer types are accepted.

What does Payoneer charge to receive?

Its fees page (1 Jan 2026) lists free for local currency and from other Payoneer customers, and 1% (minimum $1) into a non-local-currency receiving account.

Who pays the card fee on a payment request?

Payoneer's page lists up to 3.99% + $0.49 on card payments, charged to the payer.

Is there an annual fee?

$29.95 if the account receives less than $6,000 in any 12 consecutive months, per Payoneer's fees page.
