Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Form A for tuition or medical bills: paying US costs from Nigeria

How a family in Nigeria uses Form A to pay a US college or hospital: the 2026 tuition limits, the documents banks ask for, the charges and the timing.

The short answer

A family in Nigeria pays US tuition through Form A at an authorised dealer bank: the bank remits up to USD 25,000 per semester directly to the institution, against the admission letter, fee schedule, the student's passport page and, for returning students, a student ID. For US medical bills the family uses the bank's Form A medical route, which needs the hospital's invoice; banks set the exact checklist, so ask yours first.

When a student in the US has a tuition bill or a relative needs treatment, families in Nigeria often want to pay from naira through the official window rather than buy dollars elsewhere. That route is Form A, filed through an authorised dealer bank. It works, but it is slow, documented and capped. This page sets out what applies in 2026.

What changed in 2026

The CBN's Foreign Exchange Manual, 4th edition, took effect on 1 June 2026. Nairametrics (4 June 2026) and WTS Blackwoodstone (Mondaq, July 2026) report these tuition rules:

  • Tuition remittances up to USD 25,000 per semester for undergraduate and postgraduate study, up from USD 15,000; WTS Blackwoodstone reports a maximum of two semesters per academic year.
  • Payment goes through authorised dealer banks directly to the institution. If tuition and maintenance are billed together, the whole amount goes to the institution.
  • Where maintenance is billed separately or the student lives off campus, a maintenance allowance of up to USD 5,000 per quarter is paid to the student.
  • Nursery, primary, secondary, foundation and A-level programmes are not eligible for FX tuition remittances.

The last point catches families out: a US high school or a pre-university foundation year cannot be paid through the tuition route.

Documents banks ask for

Tuition

Per the Nairametrics summary of the manual: Form A, evidence of admission or the course programme, the tuition fee schedule for the period, the student's international passport data page, a student ID card for returning students, and the first degree certificate for postgraduate students. Union Bank's own school-fees page adds a signed debit instruction, the school's bank details, valid ID, and a letter of indemnity if the person applying is not the student, and says the account must be funded with the naira equivalent.

Medical

The summaries of the 2026 manual we read do not set out the medical route in detail. Banks treat medical payments as a separate Form A purpose; Wema's help centre, for instance, files Form A for school fees, medical, BTA and PTA in one section. For bureaux de change, the CBN's 2024 BDC guidelines allow medical sales of up to USD 5,000 per three months. Ask your bank for its medical checklist before you start; the US hospital's invoice or estimate and its international wire details are the starting point for any application.

What it costs

UBA's service charges (September 2026) give a useful example of the line items:

ChargeUBA figure (Sept 2026)
CBN Form A fee₦5,000
SWIFT charge₦3,000
Processing commission0.5% plus VAT
School-fees offshore charge$25 (or £15, €20, CAD 40)

Worked example (illustrative, using the UBA lines above): a $12,000 semester fee. Commission at 0.5% is $60, plus 7.5% VAT ($4.50) and the $25 offshore charge, about $89.50, plus ₦8,000 in fixed naira fees. The naira debit depends on the bank's rate on the day, which you see before you sign. Other banks' charges differ.

If the bill is larger than the limit

Some US programmes charge more than USD 25,000 a semester once fees, housing and insurance are added. Only the tuition part goes through the tuition route; housing billed by the college may count as maintenance, which the manual caps at USD 5,000 per quarter when billed separately. Ask the college for an itemised invoice that separates tuition from other charges, so the bank can apply each rule to the right line, and plan the balance from other documented sources, such as dollars already in a self-funded domiciliary account.

Timing

Form A is not instant. Flywire's help page for payers in Nigeria says "Form A can take up to 4 months". Start as soon as the college issues the invoice, tell the college's bursar or international office that payment is coming through a Nigerian bank, and ask whether it will hold registration while the transfer is in process. For hospital bills, ask the provider whether it accepts a payment plan or deposit while the Form A is processed.

Steps

  1. Get the institution's or hospital's invoice and its international wire details in writing.
  2. Ask your bank for its Form A checklist for tuition or medical, and its charges.
  3. Fund the naira account, complete Form A and the debit instruction, and submit the documents.
  4. Track the application with the bank, and send the institution the payment reference once remitted.
  5. Keep the bank's remittance advice; the student may need it for the college's records.

For other routes, such as payment platforms or dollars from a domiciliary account, see routes for parents paying US school fees. The Nigeria-side explainer is at Form A and Form M explained.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not process Form A. If you are the student or family member in the US, a Pryme Personal Account holds USD and NGN with local details for each, so family can send naira to your naira account and you decide when to convert with Swap, seeing the rate and fee first. Verifiable statements through VerifyDoc.ai can help when a college asks for proof of funds.

Questions people ask

How much school fees can I pay abroad with Form A in 2026?

Up to USD 25,000 per semester, paid directly to the institution, under the CBN FX Manual effective 1 June 2026 (Nairametrics, June 2026).

Can I use Form A for a US high school?

No. Nursery, primary, secondary, foundation and A-level programmes are not eligible for FX tuition remittances under the 2026 manual.

How long does Form A take?

It varies by bank. Flywire's help page warns that Form A can take up to four months, so start early and tell the school.

Can Form A pay a US hospital bill?

Banks list medical payments as a Form A purpose. Ask your bank for its medical checklist and limits before you apply.
