Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Form 8300: reporting cash payments over $10,000 in the US

US businesses that receive more than $10,000 in cash must file Form 8300 within 15 days. Who files, what counts as cash and what an AI agent can track.

The short answer

A US trade or business that receives more than $10,000 in cash in one transaction, or in related transactions, must file Form 8300 with the IRS within 15 days of receiving it. It must also send a written statement to each person named on the form by January 31 of the following year and keep a copy for five years. An AI agent can spot and add up related cash receipts, but deciding whether payments are related, and anything suspicious, needs a person.

Who has to file

The rule is not limited to banks. It applies to any trade or business that receives the cash in the course of that business: car dealers, jewellers, contractors, landlords, law firms, private schools, event venues. If a customer pays more than $10,000 in cash, the business must report it, however legitimate the customer.

The report goes to the IRS and is shared with FinCEN. It exists so that large cash movements leave a trail. It is not an accusation, and most filings concern ordinary purchases.

ItemGeneral treatment
US and foreign coins and currencyCash
Cashier's checks, bank drafts, traveler's checks or money orders with a face amount of $10,000 or lessCash when received in certain transactions, such as consumer purchases of high value items, or when the business knows they are used to avoid reporting
Personal checks and wire transfersGenerally not cash for Form 8300
Several payments from one buyer within 24 hoursTreated as one transaction
Payments more than 24 hours apart that the business knows are connectedRelated, so they are added together

Instalments matter. If a customer pays a deposit of $4,000 in cash and later $7,000 in cash towards the same purchase, the business files within 15 days of the payment that takes the total over $10,000. Later cash payments in the same 12 months are added up again once they pass a further $10,000.

Deadlines and records

  1. File Form 8300 within 15 days of receiving the payment that triggers the report.
  2. Send a written statement to each person named on the form by January 31 of the following year.
  3. Keep a copy of each form for five years from the date of filing.
  4. File electronically if you are required to file 10 or more information returns in the year, under IRS e-filing rules; others may file on paper or online.

Breaking a payment into smaller amounts to avoid the report, whether by the customer or the business, is structuring, which is illegal. A business may also file voluntarily for any suspicious cash transaction below $10,000.

What an AI agent can do

  • Read cash receipts in the books and flag any single receipt over $10,000.
  • Link receipts by customer, invoice and date, and add up related payments within 24 hours and over 12 months.
  • Start a 15-day clock on the triggering payment and collect the payer's details the form needs.
  • Draft the form and the January 31 statement for a person to check.
  • Hold each filed copy with a retention date five years on.
  • Flag patterns such as several payments just under $10,000 to a person for review.

What stays with a person

Whether two payments are related depends on what the business knows, which may sit in a conversation rather than in the books. Whether a pattern is suspicious is a judgement. The agent should raise the question, attach the evidence and stop. It should never advise a customer how to pay to avoid a report, and should refuse if asked.

Worked example

Example only. A used-car dealer in Texas sells a truck for $18,500. The buyer pays $6,000 in cash on 2 May and $6,500 in cash on 9 May, with the balance by personal check. The agent links both cash receipts to the same sale. On 9 May the cash total reaches $12,500, so it opens a Form 8300 case due by 24 May, attaches the buyer's ID and taxpayer number from the deal file, and drafts the form. The owner reviews and files on 12 May. The agent diaries the buyer statement for January 31 and the retention date.

Setting up so nothing is missed

Most late Form 8300 filings happen because nobody connected two cash payments, or because the payment was taken by a salesperson who did not know the rule. A few settings make the agent's job, and the owner's, much easier.

  • Record every cash receipt against a customer and an invoice, never as unallocated takings.
  • Collect the payer's name, address, date of birth, occupation and taxpayer identification number at the point of sale when a large cash payment is likely.
  • Train staff that a customer asking about reporting limits, or offering to split a payment, is something to tell the owner about, not something to help with.
  • Review the agent's related-payment rules once a year with your accountant, so they match how your business sells.
  • Keep the filed forms, the buyer statements and the supporting documents together, so an IRS examination finds one complete file.

Penalties apply for late or incorrect filings, and they are higher where a failure is intentional. Filing on time with accurate details is far cheaper than any penalty.

Where Pryme fits

The Pryme Compliance agent keeps an obligations register with a clock for each filing, screens customers and records refusals, such as a request to split a payment. Above its mandate a person decides. The Finance agent holds the cash position the receipts come from. For the wider picture, see AI for KYC and AML monitoring and cash reporting in four countries.

Questions people ask

Does Form 8300 apply to a wire transfer over $10,000?

Generally no. Wires and personal checks are not cash for Form 8300, though some cash equivalents like money orders can be in certain transactions.

What if the cash arrives in several payments?

Related payments are added together. File within 15 days of the payment that takes the total over $10,000.

Do I tell the customer I filed?

Yes. You must send each person named a written statement by January 31 of the following year. Separately, you may file voluntarily on suspicious transactions.

Can an AI agent file Form 8300 for me?

It can draft and track the form, but a person should check the facts, decide whether payments are related and submit it.
