Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

HACCP certificate for a food business in Italy

In Italy the business needs HACCP-based procedures and food handlers need hygiene training, usually shown with an attestato HACCP. Who needs what.

The short answer

In Italy, the HACCP requirement has two parts: the food business must run written self-control procedures based on the seven HACCP principles, and the people who handle food must be trained in food hygiene, which is usually evidenced by an “attestato HACCP” from a training provider. Course length, refresher intervals and who counts as a food handler vary by region, so check your region’s rule with the local ASL before you book a course.

Nigerians in Italy meet HACCP in many jobs: kitchen staff, restaurant owners, caterers for weddings and church events, African grocery shops, food delivery and baking from a rented kitchen. The word is used loosely, and that causes confusion. An employer may ask for your “HACCP” meaning a training certificate; the ASL inspector means your business’s food-safety plan. You may need both.

Three different things called “HACCP”

ItemWho needs itWhat it is
HACCP-based procedures (piano di autocontrollo)The food businessA written plan identifying hazards, critical control points, limits, checks and records
Hygiene training (attestato HACCP)People who handle food, and those responsible for the planA course certificate from a training provider
Professional qualification for selling foodThe owner or a nominated person in food retail or cateringA separate requirement for opening a food business, not covered by an HACCP course

The third row trips people up. A Florence chamber guide (2009) described the food trade qualification as met by a recognised course with an exam, two years’ qualified work in the last five, or a relevant degree. An HACCP course alone does not meet it. See opening an African food shop.

The seven principles your plan must follow

The FAO’s Good Hygiene Practices and HACCP Toolbox (2023) sets out seven principles applied in twelve steps:

  1. Conduct a hazard analysis.
  2. Determine the critical control points (CCPs).
  3. Establish critical limits for each CCP.
  4. Establish monitoring of each CCP.
  5. Establish corrective actions when a limit is not met.
  6. Validate the plan and verify that it works.
  7. Keep documentation and records.

The FAO notes that records should be proportionate, on paper or electronic, and “do not need to be complicated”. A small shop selling dry, packaged goods has a short plan. A kitchen cooking jollof, pepper soup and suya for events has more control points: cooking temperatures, cooling, hot holding and transport.

Getting the training certificate

  1. Find your region’s rule. Ask the ASL or your region’s health pages which roles need training, the minimum hours and how often it must be refreshed.
  2. Choose a provider recognised in your region. Trade associations, training bodies and some chambers run courses, often online.
  3. Choose the right level. Courses usually differ for people who only handle food and for the person responsible for the business’s plan.
  4. Keep the certificate where an inspector can see it, and note the refresher date.

Ask for course materials in English if your Italian is still developing; some providers offer it, and understanding the content matters more than the certificate.

What an inspector usually asks to see

  • The written HACCP-based plan, matched to what you actually prepare or sell.
  • Monitoring records: fridge and freezer temperatures, cooking and cooling logs, cleaning schedules.
  • Training certificates for the people working that day.
  • Supplier invoices showing where products came from, which matters for imported goods such as dried fish, palm oil and spices.
  • Evidence of pest control and of how waste is handled.

Records that are filled in on the day, even by hand, carry more weight than a perfect binder written once and never updated. The FAO toolbox makes the same point: proportionate records that are kept are better than complex ones that are not.

Catering at community events

Cooking for a wedding, a naming ceremony or a church harvest is often done informally. Once it is paid and regular, it is a food business: it needs registration, a suitable kitchen and HACCP-based procedures. Cooking at home for sale raises questions about the kitchen itself, so ask the SUAP and ASL before you take orders.

What to check first

  • Your region’s training rule (hours, refresh, who must attend).
  • Whether you need the separate food trade qualification.
  • Whether your kitchen or premises can be registered for food use.
  • Who will write and keep the HACCP plan if you have staff.

Where Pryme fits

Food businesses buying Nigerian ingredients pay suppliers at home. A Pryme Business Account, opened from any country, holds EUR and NGN; Swap shows the rate and fee before you approve, and invoicing helps with event clients. Outside Nigeria, Pryme’s activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Is an HACCP certificate mandatory in Italy?

Food handlers must be trained in hygiene, usually shown with an attestato HACCP; the business must also run HACCP-based procedures. Details vary by region.

How long is an HACCP certificate valid?

Refresher intervals are set regionally. Check with your ASL or the training provider for your region.

Is the HACCP course enough to open a food shop?

No. Food retail and catering also need a separate professional qualification, premises registration and a SCIA.

Can I do the HACCP course online?

Many providers offer online courses. Make sure the provider is recognised in the region where you work.
