Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

'Fixed match' and VIP prediction scams explained

Groups selling 'sure' fixed games and VIP tips use simple maths and edited screenshots. How the trick works, what the law says and what to do.

The short answer

A 'fixed match' seller cannot know a result in advance; the trick is to split buyers into groups, send each group a different prediction, and show the winners their 'proof'. The 'guaranteed' refund on a lost game is paid out of new members' fees, and the winning slips posted in the group are easily faked. Paying for fixed games is paying someone to lie to you.

What the offer looks like

The pitch arrives in Telegram channels, WhatsApp groups, TikTok comments and Instagram pages: "100% sure fixed game, odds 20+", "VIP correct score, pay after winning", "Insider info from club officials". The free channel posts tips and screenshots of winning betting slips. To get the "fixed" games you must pay a fee, sometimes in stages: a VIP subscription, then an "insider fee", then a share of the winnings in advance. Some sellers promise a refund or a free replacement game if the tip loses.

How the group "pays winners with the losers' money"

The seller does not need to know anything about football. He needs enough people.

The split

A match has three outcomes: home win, draw, away win. Send a third of your buyers each outcome and one third will always win. Those winners are now convinced, and they are the ones who post thanks in the group.

Round (example)People sent tipsSplit three waysSaw every tip win so far
Match 1900300 / 300 / 300300
Match 2300 winners100 / 100 / 100100
Match 3100 winners34 / 33 / 33about 33

Example only. After three matches, about 33 people have watched the seller "predict" three results in a row and will pay heavily for the next one. If 100 of the people from round two paid a ₦20,000 VIP fee, the seller has ₦2,000,000 (100 × ₦20,000) without ever predicting anything. Losers from each round are told the club "changed plans" and offered a "replacement game" at a further fee.

The refund that is not a refund

When a seller does return money to a losing customer, it comes out of new buyers' payments. It keeps the reputation alive just long enough to collect more. This is the same structure as a Ponzi scheme: early "payouts" are funded by later victims, and it ends when new money slows down. See investment scams in Nigeria for how that collapse plays out.

Why the "proof" screenshots mean nothing

  • A betting slip screenshot can be edited in a phone photo editor or with the browser's developer tools in minutes, changing names, odds, amounts and results.
  • Booking codes posted after the match are shared from games already settled.
  • A real slip from one of the "split" groups shows that one group won, not that the seller knew the result.
  • Testimonials and voice notes are posted by the seller's own accounts or by the lucky third.

Ask yourself the obvious question: if someone really knew the results, why would they sell the information for a few thousand naira instead of betting on it themselves?

Common variants to recognise

  • "Pay after winning". The seller sends a slip and asks for payment only if it wins. Because they send different slips to different people, some always win and pay, and the losers cost the seller nothing.
  • "Correct score from club insiders". Correct scores have many possible outcomes, so the split runs across more groups, but the maths is the same.
  • "Rollover" or "odds 2 daily". Promises to grow a small stake by betting the winnings every day. One loss resets everything, so the seller blames you for stopping early.
  • "Account funding" or "bet for you". You send money or your betting login, and the seller places bets on your behalf. The money is withdrawn or the account is used for someone else's activity.
  • Paid "ticket checkers". A separate account offers to verify the seller's slips for a fee. It is usually the same group.

Taking money by pretending to sell knowledge you do not have is obtaining by false pretence, an offence under section 1 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006, and using electronic messages to defraud is an offence under section 12(2) of the Cybercrimes Act 2015. Betting itself is regulated: after the Supreme Court's November 2024 judgment that lottery and gaming are mainly state matters, states license operators (Lagos through its State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, for instance). Tip sellers are not licensed operators. Recovery is hard because payments go to personal accounts that are emptied fast. Report the account to your bank quickly and report the seller to the police; and be wary of anyone who then offers to "recover" the funds for a fee, explained in scam recovery agents.

What to do instead

  • Leave groups that sell "sure" or "fixed" games; do not pay any stage of the fee.
  • Never send your betting account login, BVN or card to a tipster who offers to "place the bet for you".
  • If a betting company refuses to pay a promotion you won fairly, that is a different problem, covered in betting promo winnings not paid.
  • If betting is costing more than you planned, set a hard monthly limit and talk to someone you trust.

Questions people ask

Are fixed matches real?

Match-fixing does happen and is prosecuted, but nobody selling "fixed games" on Telegram or WhatsApp can deliver results. The trick relies on sending different predictions to different groups.

Why did the VIP group win for me before losing?

You were probably in the group that received the correct outcome by chance. Sellers split buyers so that some always win and become convinced.

Can I get my money back from a fixed match seller?

It is difficult. Report the receiving account to your bank immediately and report the seller to the police. Do not pay anyone who promises recovery for a fee.

Is selling betting tips illegal in Nigeria?

Selling opinions is not itself a crime, but taking money by claiming certain knowledge of fixed results is obtaining by false pretence under the Advance Fee Fraud Act 2006.
