Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

First Nigerian passport for a child born in the UAE

What a UAE-born child needs for a first Nigerian passport: the attested birth certificate, parents' passports, consent and NIN, in order.

The short answer

A child born in the UAE applies for a fresh Nigerian passport as a minor: an online NIS application, the child's birth certificate, proof that at least one parent is Nigerian (normally the parent's passport data page), a parental consent letter and an endorsed photo, with the child present for capture. The UAE birth certificate is the key document, and it should be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs first.

Parents in Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Sharjah often discover the Nigerian passport question when they need to travel home, or when the child's UAE residence is due and a passport is needed for it. The steps are not complicated, but the order matters: the birth certificate has to be in a form the Nigerian side will accept before anything else moves.

What the NIS asks for a minor's fresh passport

The Nigeria Immigration Service passports page lists these items for applicants under 18 applying for the first time:

  • The application form completed online, with one photo endorsed by the consenting parent or parents.
  • Evidence of the parent's Nigerian citizenship, in practice a copy of the Nigerian parent's passport data page.
  • A National Population Commission birth certificate, which the page specifies "for minors born in Nigeria". A child born in the UAE will not have one, so the UAE birth certificate takes its place.
  • A letter of consent from a parent.
  • The acknowledgement slip and proof of payment.

For adopted children the page adds a court order and approval from a State Ministry of Women Affairs or Child Development.

Some missions publish stricter lists than the NIS minimum, for example consent signed by both parents and both parents' data pages. We could not open the Abu Dhabi embassy's or the Dubai consulate's websites in October 2026, so bring both parents' documents to avoid a second trip.

The UAE birth certificate and attestation

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) explains that a document issued in the UAE for use abroad is attested in a chain: first by the issuing entity (for a birth certificate, MOHAP or the local health authority), then by MOFA, then by the destination country's mission. MOFA's FAQ lists a MOHAP digital birth certificate attestation at AED 300 in total, made up of AED 150 for MOFA and AED 150 for the destination embassy, with courier extra. The certificate must be in English or Arabic or carry an official translation, and must not be laminated.

Whether the Nigerian mission insists on full attestation for a child's passport is not stated on any official page we could open. Attesting through MOFA costs little next to a refused application, and you will need the attested certificate anyway for the child's UAE residence, which u.ae lists as requiring an attested birth certificate.

NIN first: names must match

NIS now checks applications against the National Identification Number: the 2024 Khaleej Times guide to the UAE process starts with verifying the applicant's NIN on the portal, and the names on the passport form need to match the NIN record. A UAE-born child therefore usually needs a NIN before the passport application can be completed. Our guide to NIN enrolment in the UAE explains the diaspora route. Spell the child's names on every form exactly as on the UAE birth certificate.

Steps in order

  1. Get the UAE birth certificate (and the digital version if your emirate issues one).
  2. Attest it through MOFA, and keep both the original and copies.
  3. Enrol the child for a NIN using the birth certificate and a parent's NIN.
  4. Fill the fresh-passport application for a minor on the NIS portal, choose the processing location in the UAE and pay. The NIS fee for applications abroad was $150 for a 32-page passport as at the NIS release of 28 August 2025.
  5. Book the appointment, then attend with the child for capture. All applicants attend for fingerprints and photo, per the 2024 Khaleej Times guide to the UAE process.
  6. Bring: printed form, payment and acknowledgement slips, the child's attested birth certificate plus a copy, both parents' passport data pages, a signed consent letter, and photos.

Common problems

  • Parents not married or one parent absent. The NIS minimum is consent from either parent, but missions often ask for both. If one parent has sole custody, bring the court document.
  • Only one parent is Nigerian. One Nigerian parent's data page is the citizenship evidence; the other parent's passport is identity evidence.
  • Name order differs. If the UAE certificate and the NIN differ in order or spelling, correct the NIN before applying.

Separately, register the birth with the mission if you have not done so; see registering a UAE birth with the Nigerian mission. Once the passport arrives, the child's UAE residence must reflect it.

Where Pryme fits

A new child brings new costs on both sides. A Pryme personal account holds naira and dollars together, so school, travel and family expenses at home can be managed from Abu Dhabi; see multicurrency accounts and sending money. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Can my baby born in Dubai get a Nigerian passport?

Yes, if at least one parent is Nigerian. Apply for a fresh minor's passport on the NIS portal with the UAE birth certificate, the Nigerian parent's data page and a consent letter.

Does the UAE birth certificate need attestation for a Nigerian passport?

No official mission page we could open says so outright, but MOFA attestation is cheap compared with a refusal and you need it for the UAE residence anyway.

Does my child need a NIN before the passport?

The NIS application starts by verifying a NIN, so in practice yes, and the names must match the passport form.

How long does a first passport for a child take?

The NIS 2026 Service Level Agreement sets 42 days from capture for fresh passports.
