Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Minimum age and requirements for a first driver's licence

What FRSC confirms about age, the driving school certificate, documents, fees and the steps from learning to your first card in Nigeria.

The short answer

FRSC's notice of offence sheet lists driving a vehicle while under 18 as an offence, so 18 is the practical minimum for driving a car. A first licence also needs an accredited driving school certificate number, an online application, payment (₦15,000 for three years or ₦21,000 for five for a car, as at October 2026) and in-person biometric capture.

A first licence is a sequence: learn, train at an accredited school, apply online, pay, be captured, then drive on a temporary licence until the card is ready. This guide sets out what FRSC confirms at each step and where you need to check locally, especially on age rules for particular classes.

Age: what is confirmed

FRSC's notice of offence sheet, reproduced by Brand Spur, lists driving a vehicle while under 18 (code UDR, ₦2,000). In practice that means a teenager below 18 cannot lawfully drive a vehicle on public roads, and should not be put behind the wheel of a family car on the road before then. We did not find, on the pages we opened, a separate published age for motorcycles, tricycles or the heavier commercial classes. If you are applying for one of those, ask your FRSC Drivers' Licence Centre for the current age rule before paying a driving school.

The requirements, step by step

  1. Get your identity in order. Your name and date of birth should match your NIN record.
  2. Train at an accredited driving school. FRSC requires fresh applicants to complete mandatory training; the school issues a certificate number. Schools are listed on the FRSC portal under Contact, then Accredited Driving Schools.
  3. Apply online. On the FRSC portal, choose DL Application, then new licence, Motor Vehicle or Motor Cycle/Tricycle. The form has Personal Details, Contact Details, Processing Centre and Licence Type, and Review and Pay.
  4. Choose your class and term. Fresh applicants may apply for up to two classes, A and B, for three or five years.
  5. Pay. Bank, card, POS at the centre, or NetPostPay eWallet.
  6. Attend capture in person. No proxies are accepted.
  7. Track and collect. Use your Application ID, or licence number and date of birth.

Fees for a first licence as at October 2026

Class3 years5 years
A (motorcycle and tricycle)₦7,000₦11,000
B (private car) and other classes₦15,000₦21,000

These are the FRSC portal FAQ figures; the Joint Tax Board schedule reported by the Guardian took effect on 1 November 2024. Each class is charged separately and payment channels may add a charge. Driving school fees are set by schools, not FRSC.

Documents to have ready

  • Driving school certificate number and receipt
  • Identity with your NIN
  • Application slip and payment receipt or transaction number
  • Medical certificate if you are applying for a commercial class, which must be started at a capture centre

Choosing between three and five years

The five-year licence costs ₦6,000 more for a car (₦21,000 against ₦15,000) and ₦4,000 more for a motorcycle (₦11,000 against ₦7,000). Over five years, the longer term avoids a renewal trip, a second capture visit and the risk of the fee rising again before you renew. The shorter term suits someone who expects to upgrade to a commercial class soon, because an upgrade may expire the current licence number anyway, so paying for five years on a licence you will replace in two is money spent for nothing.

Applying for two classes at once

Fresh applicants can apply for Class A and Class B together. If you expect to ride a motorcycle and drive a car, doing both at once costs ₦32,000 for five years (₦11,000 + ₦21,000) and means one application, one capture and one card.

Learning to drive before the licence

Learners practise with an instructor during the driving school course. Driving alone on public roads before you are licensed exposes you to a driver's licence violation, listed on FRSC's offence sheet at ₦10,000 and 10 points. Our guide to the learner's permit explains the permit stage and what we could confirm about it.

Worked example: an 18-year-old's first licence

Example only. Bisi turns 18 in March and wants a three-year car licence. She pays a driving school ₦55,000 (example). Licence fee: ₦15,000 (portal, as at October 2026). Card charge ₦150 (example) and transport ₦5,000 (example). Total: ₦75,150 (55,000 + 15,000 + 150 + 5,000). Choosing five years instead would add ₦6,000 (21,000 − 15,000) and save her a renewal in year four.

Common reasons first applications stall

  • No accredited school certificate number.
  • Date of birth on the application differs from the NIN record.
  • Choosing a capture centre you cannot easily get to.
  • Paying an agent rather than paying on the portal yourself.

After capture, read how long a temporary licence is valid and how to collect your card.

Where Pryme fits

Parents paying for a first licence can move the money into a Fixed Box until the course starts, and pay the school by transfer for a clear record.
