Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Paying school fees abroad through First Bank (Form A)

How Nigerian parents and students pay overseas school fees through First Bank using Form A: the form, what to prepare, the CBN cap, and timing.

The short answer

To pay school fees abroad through First Bank, you apply for foreign exchange using Form A, which FirstBank publishes on its download forms page under PTA and BTA forms, and submit it at your branch with documents that prove the purpose. Legit.ng reported in August 2026 that CBN FX Manual changes raised the tuition remittance cap for students abroad to $25,000 per semester, from $15,000. Ask your branch for its checklist and allow time for processing.

Form A is the application Nigerian banks use when a customer wants to buy foreign currency for an "invisible" payment, one that is for a service rather than imported goods. School fees, medical bills abroad, personal travel allowance (PTA) and business travel allowance (BTA) all fall into this category. If you want First Bank to send fees directly to a university or school abroad, Form A is the route.

Form A in plain terms

What it is
A foreign exchange application for a service payment, including school fees.
Where to get it
FirstBank's download forms page lists "FORM A" under "PTA & BTA Form"; branches also have it.
Who submits it
Usually the parent or sponsor whose account will fund the payment, or the student.
What it leads to
The bank buys the currency (if you are paying from naira) and sends it to the school's account abroad.

Form M, which also appears in FirstBank's FAQs, is for imports of goods and is a different process.

The CBN cap on tuition payments

The CBN sets how much foreign exchange can be bought for school fees. Legit.ng reported on 9 August 2026 that changes in the CBN's foreign exchange manual raised the tuition remittance cap for students abroad to $25,000 per semester, from $15,000. According to Mondaq, the fourth edition of the CBN's Foreign Exchange Manual was implemented on 1 June 2026. Confirm the current cap with your branch before you plan the payment, because the bank applies whatever the CBN's rules say on the day.

What to prepare

FirstBank's pages we read do not list the Form A documents for school fees. The bank needs to see that the payment is for the purpose stated, so expect to show that. Ask the branch for its checklist, and have ready:

  • The completed Form A, signed by the account holder.
  • The school's fee invoice or demand letter showing the amount, the student's name and the school's bank details.
  • The admission or enrolment letter for the student.
  • The student's international passport data page, and any visa or study permit if the bank asks.
  • Your valid ID and BVN, and enough balance in the funding account.

Steps

  1. Get the school's invoice and confirm its bank details directly with the school, not from a forwarded email.
  2. Download Form A from FirstBank's download forms page or collect it at a branch.
  3. Complete it with the amount, currency and beneficiary details exactly as on the invoice.
  4. Submit it at your branch with the supporting documents and ask for an acknowledgement.
  5. Ask what exchange rate and charges will apply, and approve them before the bank proceeds.
  6. Keep the payment confirmation (the SWIFT message or bank confirmation) and send it to the school.

Worked example

Example only, with invented figures: a school invoices £9,000 for the autumn term. You hold naira, so First Bank buys £9,000 at the rate it applies that day and debits your account for the naira equivalent plus its charges. The naira cost is £9,000 multiplied by the bank's quoted rate, plus its charges. Ask for the rate on the day and check today's figure before you fund the account. If the bank also charges a fixed SWIFT fee and the school's bank deducts its own fee, the school may receive less than £9,000 unless you agree to pay all charges; ask how to make sure the full invoice amount arrives.

Timing and pitfalls

  • Start early. Processing, the bank's checks and international transfer time all add days; schools often have firm deadlines.
  • Match names exactly. The student's name on the invoice, passport and form should agree.
  • Watch for fraud. Fake invoices with changed bank details are a known problem; confirm details by phone with the school.
  • Check intermediary fees. Banks along the route may deduct charges, so the school may receive slightly less than you send. Ask whether you can pay all charges so the full amount arrives.

If you are paying from a domiciliary account that already holds the currency, the bank does not need to buy currency for you, but it will still ask about the purpose. See First Bank domiciliary accounts.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds USD, GBP and EUR as well as naira, with local account details for each, and Swap converts between them when you choose, with the rate shown first and the fee on its own line. For fees paid to schools in Nigeria, see school fees with Loans on Spaces and multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask
