Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

Does my Ghana business need a fire certificate?

Ghana's fire regulations require a fire permit before construction and a certificate on completion. AFCAS, equipment tagging and what to prepare.

The short answer

Almost certainly. Under the Fire Precaution (Premises) Regulations, 2003 (L.I. 1724), as amended by L.I. 2249, all premises, commercial or residential, need a fire permit before construction starts and a fire certificate when the works are completed. Since September 2026 the Ghana National Fire Service takes applications through its AFCAS platform, and fire equipment must carry official GNFS tags and an AFCAS QR code.

What the rules say

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) set out the position in a statement reported by the Ghana News Agency on 2 September 2026. Regulations 1 and 2 of L.I. 1724 require all premises, whether commercial or residential, to obtain a fire permit before construction starts, and a fire certificate is required on completion of the works. Regulations 11 and 12 require fire alarms, fire equipment and extinguishers to bear official GNFS tags for inspection.

On completionFire certificateL.I. 1724

AFCAS: the new application route

GNFS has launched the Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCAS) at afcas.gnfs.gov.gh, which its head of public relations said "was now open to the public". Vehicle owners, residential and commercial property owners, building owners and occupiers are asked to submit applications through it, after reading the information brochure on the platform. The statement does not give fees, processing time or validity; those should be on the platform or available from GNFS on the numbers in the statement.

Equipment tagging deadline

Newly imported fire equipment is tagged at the point of entry. Owners of existing equipment were given six months from the statement's publication to have GNFS-authorised inspectors tag it, which points to early March 2027 for a statement published on 2 September 2026; confirm the exact date with GNFS. Buy only tagged equipment from licensed Fire Protection Contractors, and if your business buys through a procurement team, use GNFS-AFCAS licensed contractors for installation.

Building or converting premises

The permit stage is the one most often missed. L.I. 1724, as GNFS describes it, asks for the fire permit before construction starts, not after the building is finished. If you are building a warehouse, a guest house or a shop, or converting a residential building for business use, apply on AFCAS before the work begins and keep the permit on site. Applying only at the end, when you want to open, risks being asked to change things that are expensive to change once walls and ceilings are finished, such as exits, escape routes and where gas or fuel is stored.

For a Nigerian investor building from abroad, this is a point to put in the contractor's contract: who applies for the fire permit, who meets the inspectors, and that final payment depends on the fire certificate being issued.

Tenants as well as owners

Many Nigerian-owned businesses in Ghana rent space. The GNFS statement addresses occupiers as well as owners, so a tenant should not assume the landlord's certificate covers its use of the premises. A shop that becomes a restaurant kitchen, or an office that becomes a salon with dryers and chemicals, changes the fire risk. Ask the landlord for the building's certificate, then ask GNFS through AFCAS whether your use needs its own.

How it fits with other permits

  • Food businesses: the FDA's guideline for food service establishments lists its own documents (staff health certificates, floor plan, business registration) and does not mention a fire certificate, so the fire certificate is a separate requirement you obtain from GNFS. See licences for a restaurant in Accra.
  • Assembly permit: the local assembly issues the operating permit for premises; see assembly permits.
  • Salons and workshops: equipment and stored chemicals raise the risk profile; see opening a salon.

Keeping it current

The GNFS statement does not say how long a fire certificate lasts or how often it must be renewed. Ask when the certificate is issued, write the answer on your compliance calendar, and keep a copy of the certificate and the equipment tags' details together. Other regulators, banks and insurers may ask for it, and SSNIT's list of employer documents already includes the assembly permit, which in turn can depend on fire safety being in order.

What to check first

  1. Does the building have a fire certificate, and does it cover your use?
  2. Are your extinguishers and alarms tagged, or will they need tagging before the six-month window closes?
  3. Has the AFCAS brochure changed the documents asked for? Read it before applying.
  4. Who will be on site for the inspection, and can they show where equipment is and how staff evacuate?

Example

Example, for illustration: a Nigerian-owned print shop in Tema rents a ground-floor unit with two extinguishers left by the previous tenant. Neither carries a GNFS tag. The owner buys a tagged replacement from a licensed contractor, has the existing unit tagged by an authorised inspector, and applies on AFCAS as occupier. Doing this before the tagging window closes avoids rushing at the deadline, when inspectors are likely to be busiest.

Where Pryme fits

Compliance costs are easier to plan when they are visible. A Pryme Business Account keeps currencies separate, and the Compliance agent can prepare reminders for permit and certificate renewals; a person approves.

Questions people ask

Is a fire certificate compulsory in Ghana?

Under L.I. 1724 as cited by GNFS, all premises, commercial or residential, need a fire permit before construction and a fire certificate on completion.

How do I apply for a fire certificate in Ghana?

Through the GNFS Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCAS), which opened to the public in September 2026. Read the brochure on the platform first.

How much is a fire certificate in Ghana?

The GNFS statement of September 2026 does not give fees. Check the AFCAS platform or ask GNFS.

Do fire extinguishers need tagging in Ghana?

Yes. GNFS says equipment must bear official tags, installed equipment must carry an AFCAS QR code, and existing equipment had six months to be tagged.
