Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

FCMB dollar card and naira card limits abroad

Your options for paying abroad from FCMB: naira card, dollar card from a domiciliary account, what the international cap is and what we could verify.

The short answer

FCMB's current international limit on naira cards was not published on any page we could open in October 2026, and a Legit.ng roundup of bank limits in August 2026 did not include FCMB, so call 0700 329 0000 or check the FCMB Mobile app before you travel. A dollar card linked to an FCMB domiciliary account spends your own foreign currency and avoids naira card caps; the CBN 2020 Guide to Charges caps foreign-currency card maintenance at $10 a year.

Spending abroad or paying a foreign website from Nigeria comes down to two choices: use a naira card and let the bank convert, or hold foreign currency and spend it with a dollar card. Both have limits and costs that change, so this guide focuses on how each works and where to find FCMB's current figures.

Option 1: your FCMB naira card abroad

Nigerian banks set an international spending cap on naira debit cards and convert each foreign transaction at a rate they choose. Those caps have moved many times. In August 2026 Legit.ng reported, for example, a $20,000 quarterly limit for eligible GTBank customers, $2,000 to $3,000 a month on Access Bank cards depending on card type, and $100 a month on Stanbic IBTC naira debit cards. FCMB was not covered.

  • What to ask FCMB: the monthly or quarterly international limit on your card type, whether it is split between ATM, POS and online, the exchange rate applied and any international transaction fee.
  • Activation: some banks require international use to be switched on before you travel. Check the card controls in FCMB Mobile.
  • Rate: the conversion rate is set by the bank on the day of the transaction. Never assume the rate you see quoted elsewhere.

Option 2: an FCMB dollar card

A dollar debit or prepaid card is linked to foreign currency you already hold, usually in a domiciliary account. Because you are spending dollars, naira card caps do not apply in the same way, though the bank still sets its own daily and transaction limits. Points to check:

QuestionWhere the answer comes from
Do I need a domiciliary account?Usually yes; see FCMB domiciliary account and SWIFT code
Issuance feeFCMB tariff; ask the branch
Annual maintenanceCBN 2020 guide caps FX card maintenance at $10 a year
Daily ATM and POS limits abroadFCMB; not published on pages we could open
How to fund itFrom your FCMB dollar balance or by foreign currency transfer in

Costs: a worked example

Example only: you pay a $300 hotel bill abroad.

  • On a naira card, the bank converts $300 at its own rate that day. The naira debit is $300 multiplied by that rate, plus any international fee, and you only see the final naira figure on your alert. If the $300 pushes you past your monthly cap, the payment is declined.
  • On a dollar card, $300 leaves your dollar balance. If the hotel charges in euros, a second conversion from dollars to euros may apply.

Paying in the currency you hold avoids a conversion, which is why travellers often keep a small balance in the currency of the country they visit. For more on choices, see spending abroad: cards, cash or currency balance.

Paying foreign websites from Nigeria

Online payments to foreign merchants (software subscriptions, course fees, flight bookings with overseas airlines) count against the same international limit as spending in person on most naira cards. Subscriptions are a common surprise: a monthly charge can fail silently once the cap is reached, and the service is suspended. If you pay several foreign subscriptions, add up their dollar cost and compare it with your card's monthly cap. Paying the larger, irregular items such as application or exam fees by a different method keeps room on the card for the regular ones.

Cash withdrawals abroad

ATM withdrawals abroad usually carry the most cost: the foreign ATM owner may add its own fee, your bank may charge a cash-withdrawal fee, and the conversion applies on top. Some naira cards do not allow foreign ATM cash at all. Ask FCMB specifically whether your card permits ATM withdrawals abroad and the limit, rather than assuming the POS limit applies to cash. Where possible, carry some cash in the local currency for the first day and use cards for larger payments.

Before you travel

  1. Call FCMB (0700 329 0000) or check the app for the card's international limit and whether it is enabled.
  2. Make sure your phone number and email are current, so you receive alerts and any security codes abroad.
  3. Carry a second payment method; card declines abroad are common when limits are reached.
  4. Save FCMB's numbers in international format: the head office line is +234 1 279 3030 (FCMB Group contact page).
  5. Note how to block the card fast if it is lost: see how to block an FCMB card.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme multicurrency account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each. Money stays in the currency it arrived in, and Swap converts only when you choose, showing the rate first and the fee on its own line before you approve. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's financial activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

What is FCMB naira card international limit?

FCMB's current limit was not published on pages we could open in October 2026. Call 0700 329 0000 or check card settings in FCMB Mobile before you travel.

Can I use FCMB naira card abroad?

Naira cards can generally be used abroad within the bank's international cap and at its conversion rate. Confirm with FCMB that international use is enabled on your card.

Does FCMB have a dollar card?

Banks issue dollar cards linked to domiciliary accounts; ask FCMB for its current dollar card, fees and limits. The CBN caps FX card maintenance at $10 a year.

Why was my FCMB card declined abroad?

Common reasons are reaching the international cap, international use not enabled, an expired card or a fraud check. Call FCMB using the international head office number.
