Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to get an FCMB POS terminal and the cost

How to apply for an FCMB POS terminal as a merchant or agent, the documents to prepare, the costs to ask about and how settlement works.

The short answer

To get an FCMB POS terminal, you need an FCMB account (a business or current account for merchants), valid ID, proof of address and, for a registered business, CAC documents; you then apply through your branch or relationship manager. FCMB did not publish its terminal fee, caution deposit, merchant service charge or settlement time on pages we could open in October 2026, so ask for those in writing before you sign.

There are two quite different reasons to want a POS terminal. A merchant (shop, pharmacy, restaurant) wants customers to pay by card. An agent wants to run a cash-in, cash-out business, giving cash to people who pay by card or transfer and charging a fee. Banks set up each differently, so be clear which you are applying for.

Merchant or agent: the difference

Merchant POSAgent POS
Main useAccepting card payments for your goods or servicesCash withdrawal, deposits, transfers and bills for the public
Who earnsYou receive sale proceeds less the merchant service chargeYou earn commission per transaction and charge customers a fee
Cash neededNone beyond normal floatWorking capital in cash and in your account
Typical accountBusiness or current accountAgent wallet or account under the bank's agent programme

Documents to prepare

FCMB's POS and agent requirements were not readable online in October 2026. Banks commonly ask for the following; for comparison, Access Bank's published agent page lists a visible business location, minimum working capital of ₦50,000, valid ID, a utility bill and business registration for corporates.

  • An FCMB account in the business's or your own name.
  • Valid ID of the owner or each director: NIN slip or card, international passport, driver's licence or voter's card.
  • Utility bill or other proof of address for the business location.
  • CAC certificate (business name or limited company) and, for companies, the status report and a board resolution.
  • Passport photographs.
  • BVN of owners and signatories.
  • A completed POS or agent application form from the branch.

Costs to ask about before you sign

This is where most POS disappointments start. Ask FCMB to state each of these in writing:

  1. Terminal cost: is the device sold, leased, or issued against a refundable caution deposit? Is the deposit returned when you give the device back?
  2. Merchant service charge (merchants): the percentage taken from each card sale, and any cap.
  3. Agent commission (agents): what you earn per withdrawal, transfer and bill payment.
  4. Minimum activity: some banks retrieve or charge for terminals that process too little.
  5. Paper rolls, repairs and replacement: who pays.
  6. Settlement: how quickly card sales reach your account (same day or next working day), and what happens on weekends and public holidays.

Worked example

Example only, with assumed figures: a pharmacy takes ₦2,000,000 in card sales in a month. If the merchant service charge were 0.5% capped at ₦1,000 per transaction, and every sale were under the cap, the month's charge would be ₦2,000,000 × 0.5% = ₦10,000, so ₦1,990,000 would settle. Replace the assumed rate with FCMB's actual figure before deciding whether a terminal pays for itself.

Running a POS agent business

  • Keep cash and account float balanced; you cannot pay out cash you do not have.
  • Never give cash until the transaction shows as successful on the terminal and the receipt prints.
  • Watch for fake transfer alerts; confirm credits on the terminal or in your account, not on a customer's phone. See spotting fake transfer receipts.
  • Record every transaction; disputes about failed withdrawals are common, and your log is your evidence.
  • Display your charges clearly so customers know what they will pay.

Failed and disputed POS transactions

When a card is debited but the terminal shows failure, the customer complains to their own bank, which raises a dispute against the merchant or agent's bank. Keep receipts and the end-of-day report, respond quickly when FCMB contacts you, and ask FCMB how it handles chargebacks before you start. For a customer-side view, see POS terminal vs bank transfer.

Bank terminal or another provider?

Banks are not the only source of POS terminals in Nigeria; licensed payment companies also issue them, often with different deposits, charges and settlement terms. A bank terminal can make sense if you already bank with that bank and want proceeds in the same account. Compare at least two offers on the same points: device cost, charge per transaction, settlement time, support response and what happens when you return the device. Choose on the written terms, not on what a sales agent says.

What to check first

  • Whether you want a merchant or agent terminal.
  • All costs, including the deposit and its refund terms, in writing.
  • Settlement time and who to call when settlement is late.
  • The FCMB contact for POS support; the general contact centre is 0700 329 0000.

Where Pryme fits

For online or remote sales, a bank-transfer checkout is an alternative to card terminals: Pryme Business Accounts include one free of charge. Merchants in supported sectors in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt can also join Spaces, where Pryme customers can spend with participating businesses.
