Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Personal Assistant

Managing family money as a parent with an assistant

A plan for Nigerian parents juggling school fees, feeding, allowances and bills, with a money assistant handling reminders and routine payments.

The short answer

Parents can use a money assistant to keep the household running: reminders for school fees and levies, prepared payments for electricity, data and cable TV, payday moves into separate pots for fees and emergencies, and regular allowances for older children. You approve every payment. The assistant takes the remembering off your plate so you can focus on the decisions.

The parent's money calendar

Raising children in Nigeria comes with a calendar of costs that do not wait: school fees each term, plus levies for uniforms, books, excursions, PTA and exams; feeding and lunch money; transport to school; data for homework and online classes; clinic visits; birthdays; and the December period when everything costs more. On top of that sit the household bills and, for many parents, support for their own parents too.

None of these is a surprise, yet many arrive as one. The answer is to write the calendar down once and let reminders and savings pots do the rest.

CostWhenHow to handle it
School feesEach termFees pot, filled monthly; reminder 3 weeks before
Levies and booksStart of term, sometimes mid-termSmall buffer inside the fees pot
Feeding and lunch moneyDaily or weeklyWeekly transfer or cash budget
Transport to schoolWeekly or termlyFixed weekly line in the budget
Data and devicesMonthlyReminders and prepared data purchases
HealthUnplannedEmergency pot
Festive season and birthdaysDecember and dates through the yearFestive pot, small monthly moves

Set up pots that match the calendar

One account for everything makes it hard to know whether the fees money is safe. Separate pots make the answer obvious:

  • School fees pot: divide each term's expected fees by the months until resumption. See the term-by-term school fees plan.
  • Emergency pot: for clinic visits and sudden costs. Read how big your emergency fund should be.
  • Festive pot: a small amount monthly so December does not borrow from January's fees.
  • Household account: for food, bills and transport.

Ask your assistant to prepare the moves into each pot on payday. You approve them in a minute, and you can see at any time how far each pot is from its target.

Let the assistant handle the routine

  1. Reminders with amounts: "Remind me on 20 December to pay ₦280,000 second-term fees for Tobi."
  2. Prepared bills: electricity before weekends, data before it expires on the children's tablet, cable TV before renewal.
  3. Allowances: a weekly transfer to an older child at university or secondary school, prepared every Friday for you to approve.
  4. School payments: where the school gives account details, save them once with the child's name in the nickname, and use a clear narration such as "Tobi JSS2 2nd term".

Worked example: a family of five

Example only. Chinwe and her husband in Abuja have three children: two in primary school and one in JSS3. Their termly fees total ₦600,000, and each term brings about ₦60,000 in extras. They pay the fees from a fees pot and want it full before each term begins, roughly four months apart.

  • Target per term: ₦660,000. Monthly move into the fees pot: ₦165,000.
  • Emergency pot: ₦30,000 monthly until it reaches three months of household costs.
  • Festive pot: ₦20,000 monthly.
  • Weekly lunch and transport transfer to the eldest: ₦7,500 every Friday.

On payday, their assistant prepares the three pot moves. Chinwe approves them first thing. Three weeks before resumption, a reminder arrives with the fees amount and the school's saved account. She checks the account name and approves. Midway through the term, a ₦15,000 excursion levy arrives; it comes from the buffer already in the fees pot rather than from food money.

When two parents share the load

Where both parents earn, agree who funds which pot and who approves which payments. A common split is one parent covering fees and the other the household account, with both able to see the balances. Whatever the split, write it down. Most family money arguments start with an assumption that the other person had paid. A short monthly review together, as in the month-end money review, settles it in twenty minutes.

Keep receipts for school payments

Schools sometimes lose track of payments, especially at the start of term when many parents pay at once. Keep the receipt or statement entry for every fees payment, with the child's name and term in the narration, so you can show it quickly if a bursar says a payment is missing.

Teaching children about money along the way

The routine you build is also a lesson. Older children can be shown how their allowance is planned, how the fees pot fills, and why the family waits for some things. Some parents give teenagers a fixed weekly allowance and let them manage it, with a small savings target of their own. The habits children see at home tend to be the ones they keep.

If you also support your own parents, give that its own line in the budget so it is not squeezed by the children's costs or the other way round. Our guide to sending money to family with an assistant covers the routine.

Where Pryme fits

Every Pryme Personal Account customer can set up a Personal Assistant, choosing its name, voice and gender (default name Eva), to help with bills, saving, reminders and sending money. It prepares; nothing moves until you approve. Naira Savings Boxes come as Flexible, Fixed, Investment and Interest-free, with rates shown in the app, and suit fees, emergency and festive pots.

Questions people ask

How can I save for my children's school fees in Nigeria?

Divide each term's expected fees and extras by the months until resumption, and move that amount into a separate pot on payday. Set a reminder three weeks before fees are due.

How much allowance should I give my child in university?

It depends on your income and their real costs: transport, feeding, data and materials. Agree a weekly figure, pay it on a fixed day, and review it each semester.

Can a money app remind me when school fees are due?

Yes, many apps let you set reminders, and some assistants can prepare the payment to a saved school account for you to approve.

How do I avoid fake school fees account scams?

Pay only to the account in the school's official letter or portal, and confirm any change with the bursar on a number you already know.
