Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

FairMoney loan declined: the usual reasons and what to do

Why FairMoney says no: bureau records, unpaid loans elsewhere, BVN or name mismatches, thin account history. What you can fix and how long to wait.

The short answer

FairMoney does not publish its decision rules, but declines usually trace back to a few causes: an unpaid or late loan on your credit bureau record, details that do not match your BVN, too little account history for the app to assess, or a card or account that fails validation. Some of these can be fixed in days (a name mismatch), others only with time (a poor repayment record).

A "sorry, we cannot offer you a loan" screen tells you very little. FairMoney, like most lenders, does not explain the exact reason for each decision, so the useful approach is to work through the causes that affect app lending in Nigeria, rule out the ones that do not apply to you, and fix what you can before you try again.

How a lending decision is made

When you request a loan, FairMoney assesses your identity, your credit history and the information you have given in the app. Nigerian lenders can query the licensed credit bureaus using your BVN, which means a loan you took and missed with any bank or app can appear. Our explainer on how credit bureaus work in Nigeria covers what a bureau report contains and how to request yours. FairMoney's own site advertises loans of up to ₦10 million (as at Oct 2026), but the amount any one customer is offered depends entirely on this assessment.

The usual reasons for a decline

1. A missed or unpaid loan on your bureau record

This is the most common cause. An overdue balance with another loan app, a bank overdraft that went into arrears, or an old loan you thought was settled but which shows an outstanding amount will weigh heavily. Lenders treat a current default as a strong signal not to lend.

2. Your repayment history with FairMoney

If you have borrowed from FairMoney before and repaid late, the app may reduce your limit or stop offering loans for a while. Repaying on time, and early where allowed, tends to have the opposite effect over several cycles.

3. A BVN, name or phone mismatch

If the name on your BVN differs from the name on your ID or in the app, or your phone number is not the one linked to your BVN, identity checks can fail. This is fixable: correct your profile, or update your BVN details at your bank if the BVN record itself is wrong. The guide BVN vs NIN explains which record holds what.

4. Too little history to assess

A new phone number, a new bank account or no borrowing record at all can leave the app with too little to go on. This is not a black mark; it simply means you need time and regular account activity.

5. Several loan applications in a short time

Applying to many apps in one week can look like financial stress to any lender, especially if some of those loans are now running. Space applications out.

6. A card or account that fails validation

An expired debit card, a card blocked for online use, or an account with a Post No Debit restriction can stop the process before a decision is reached.

What to check first

  1. Request your credit report from a licensed credit bureau and look for any unpaid balances, including ones you do not recognise.
  2. Settle any genuine overdue loan and ask that lender for written confirmation that it is closed.
  3. Dispute any wrong entry with the bureau and the lender that reported it, keeping copies of receipts.
  4. Check that your name, date of birth and phone number in the FairMoney app match your BVN record exactly.
  5. Confirm your linked card is valid, unexpired and enabled for online transactions.
  6. Wait before reapplying. A repeat request minutes later usually gives the same result, because nothing the app looks at has changed.

Offered before, declined now?

Many people are surprised when an app that lent to them last month refuses this month. Offers are reassessed each time, so a change anywhere in your profile can alter the result: a new loan elsewhere that is still running, a late payment on your last FairMoney loan, a drop in the money flowing through your account, or a change of phone number or device that the app has not yet verified. Look at what changed in your own finances since the last approval; that is usually where the answer sits. If nothing obvious has changed, ask FairMoney support in the app whether a verification step is pending.

What you cannot fix quickly, and what to do instead

A history of late repayment improves only as newer, on-time records build up. In the meantime, avoid the trap of borrowing from another app to repay an old one; the extra interest makes the hole deeper. Compare what different credit options really cost using a worked example.

Example onlyOption A: app loanOption B: wait and save
Need₦60,000 in two months₦60,000 in two months
Cost₦60,000 at an example 6% flat a month for 2 months = ₦7,200 interest₦30,000 set aside each month
Total paid₦67,200₦60,000

If you are being pressured or threatened over an old loan, that conduct is regulated; see loan app harassment: your rights. To build a better record over time, the tips in how to grow your credit limit apply to FairMoney as much as to any lender.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme customers who run their account well may later be offered Loans on Spaces, lent by Solid Allianze MFB and spent only with Spaces merchants. Solid Allianze, the lender, also uses the licensed credit bureaus, so an unpaid loan elsewhere matters here too, and every agreement is shown in full for you to accept or decline.

Questions people ask

Why does FairMoney keep declining my loan request?

Common causes are an unpaid loan on your credit bureau record, late repayment of an earlier FairMoney loan, details that do not match your BVN, too little account history, or a card that fails validation. FairMoney does not publish its exact rules.

How long should I wait before applying to FairMoney again?

There is no published waiting period. Reapply only after something has changed: an overdue loan is settled, your details are corrected, or you have built more account history.

Can an unpaid loan on another app stop FairMoney from lending to me?

Yes, it can. Lenders in Nigeria check the licensed credit bureaus, and an overdue balance with any lender that reports to them can appear on your record.

Will FairMoney tell me the exact reason I was declined?

Usually not in detail. You can contact FairMoney support in the app to ask, and you can request your own credit report from a licensed bureau to see what lenders see.
