Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Exporting shea butter from Nigeria to UAE buyers

Selling Nigerian shea butter to UAE buyers: NEPC, NXP and NAFDAC papers in Nigeria, and what Dubai customs and the buyer check on arrival.

The short answer

To export shea butter from Nigeria to the UAE you need NEPC registration, Form NXP through your bank and, for a NAFDAC-registered product, NAFDAC's Combined Certificate of Manufacture and Free Sale; NAFDAC's guideline puts the full export process at about 28 working days. In the UAE the buyer pays 5% duty on CIF and needs your invoice, certificate of origin, packing list and the permits its authority requires.

Shea butter from northern Nigeria goes into cosmetics, soaps and food, and Gulf buyers want it in bulk for blending and in retail jars under their own or your brand. The product is simple; the paperwork depends on whether you sell raw butter in bulk, a finished cosmetic or a food ingredient. This guide sets out the Nigerian documents, then the UAE side.

Decide what you are selling

FormTypical UAE buyerPaperwork driver
Bulk unrefined butter (cartons or drums)Cosmetic or soap manufacturerBuyer's specification and lab report
Retail cosmetic jarsDistributor, retailer, online sellerNAFDAC registration in Nigeria; cosmetic product rules in the UAE
Food-grade butterFood manufacturerFood safety rules in the UAE; NAFDAC health certificate

There is no single official grading standard cited for shea butter in the sources used for this guide; grades A, B and C are a trade convention. Agree the specification (moisture, free fatty acids, impurities, colour, smell) in the contract and have a lab test against it.

Nigerian export documents

  1. NEPC exporter certificate. ₦13,500 for a new certificate under the NEPC service charter (March 2026), issued within 24 hours of complete documents and payment.
  2. Export proceeds domiciliary account with an authorised dealer bank, and a TIN, per the Nigeria Trade Information Portal.
  3. Form NXP through your bank before shipment. The Portal lists it as the form for commercial exports.
  4. NAFDAC export certificate. NAFDAC's export guideline lists the Combined Certificate of Manufacture and Free Sale for registered food and cosmetics, and a Health Certificate for processed or semi-processed food. Its document list includes the registration licence, a cGMP or GHP certificate, NXP forms, the NEPC registration, proforma invoice and packing list, a sample, the original certificate of analysis and the importing country's specifications. It gives timelines of one day for document vetting, five days for warehouse inspection and two weeks for laboratory work, about 28 working days in all, and says it does not certify products that have already left Nigeria.
  5. Certificate of origin from NACCIMA; see certificates of origin for UAE-bound goods.
  6. Plant quarantine. Raw shea nuts are agricultural produce and need a NAQS phytosanitary certificate. Whether processed butter needs one depends on the buyer's import permit; ask NAQS and the buyer.

What the UAE side checks

Dubai Customs charges 5% of CIF on most imports and lists the standard documents: commercial invoice, certificate of origin, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill and any applicable permits. Sharjah also charges 5% (u.ae). Cosmetic and food products need product approval from the relevant UAE authority before release, and that is the buyer's or importer's job; expect them to ask you for ingredient lists, a certificate of analysis, a safety data sheet for bulk butter, and label artwork. If you plan to sell your own brand in Dubai, see cosmetics registration in Dubai.

Packing and labelling

Bulk shea butter is usually shipped in lined cartons or drums. Use food-grade liners if the buyer may use the butter in food, mark each package with the lot number that appears on the certificate of analysis, and record gross and net weights on the packing list. Shea softens in heat, so ask the forwarder about container placement and time in the Lagos terminal. Retail jars need labels that meet the UAE rules for the product type; the UAE importer will tell you what its authority requires, which may include Arabic text. Keep one labelled jar from each lot as a retained sample in case of a quality dispute.

Getting paid

Agree payment terms that fit the CBN repatriation window: Pavestones Legal's summary of the 2026 FX Manual gives 90 days for non-oil export proceeds. A deposit with order and balance against a copy bill of lading is common for new buyers; letters of credit suit larger orders.

Example order (illustrative)

ItemUSD
2 tonnes of unrefined shea butter at US$2.40 per kg, FOB Lagos4,800
Deposit at 40%1,920
Balance against copy bill of lading2,880

Check: 2,000 kg x 2.40 = 4,800; 1,920 + 2,880 = 4,800.

What to check first

  • The buyer's specification and the lab that will test against it.
  • Whether your product is NAFDAC-registered, and the lead time for NAFDAC's export certificate.
  • Who will obtain UAE product approval, and which documents they need from you.
  • Packing: food-grade liners, drum or carton weights, labels that match the invoice.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account gives a Nigerian shea exporter USD details for UAE buyers and naira for paying cooperatives, with Swap converting only when you choose. The Compliance agent can keep the NAFDAC, NEPC and NXP checklist for each order for a person to approve. For the export steps in full, see NXP and NEPC steps.

Questions people ask

What documents do I need to export shea butter from Nigeria?

NEPC registration, Form NXP, a NAFDAC export certificate for regulated products, a certificate of origin and, for raw nuts, a NAQS phytosanitary certificate.

How long does NAFDAC take to issue an export certificate?

NAFDAC's export guideline gives about 28 working days in total, including laboratory analysis.

What duty does the UAE charge on shea butter?

Most goods pay 5% of CIF value, according to Dubai Customs. Import VAT applies on top.

Does shea butter need a phytosanitary certificate?

Raw shea nuts do. For processed butter, it depends on the buyer's import permit; ask NAQS and the buyer.
