Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Exporting a car from Dubai to Nigeria: RTA export certificate

How a seller deregisters a Dubai car for export, what the export certificate is for, and the Nigerian age limit and duty rules the buyer will meet.

The short answer

To ship a Dubai-registered car to Nigeria, the owner cancels its UAE registration for export with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which issues the export certificate the shipping line and Nigeria Customs rely on as proof of ownership. Clear any fines and any bank loan on the car first, and check the Nigerian rules: the trade portal lists used vehicles over 12 years old as prohibited.

Dubai is one of the main sources of used cars for Nigerian buyers, from private sellers leaving the UAE to dealers who ship containers every month. The UAE side is a deregistration: the car stops being a Dubai vehicle and becomes an export. The Nigerian side is an import with an age limit, duty and Customs checks. Get the first wrong and the car cannot leave; get the second wrong and it cannot be cleared at Lagos.

What the export certificate is

When a car registered in Dubai is going abroad, the owner cancels its registration for export with the RTA rather than transferring it to a new local owner. The export certificate records the vehicle, its chassis (VIN) number and the owner, and shows the UAE registration has been cancelled for export. Shipping lines and agents ask for it before loading, and in Nigeria it supports the Customs declaration as proof of where the car came from and who owned it.

Before you apply: clear the car

Deregistration is usually refused while anything is attached to the vehicle. Before you go:

  • Traffic fines. Check and pay outstanding fines on the vehicle.
  • Bank finance. If the car was bought on a loan, the bank's mortgage over it must be released. Settle the loan and get the bank's clearance letter first.
  • Ownership papers. The registration card (mulkiya) in the seller's name, the seller's Emirates ID or passport, and a power of attorney if someone else is acting.
  • Plates. Expect to surrender the plates when the registration is cancelled.

If you are selling to a Nigerian buyer who is not in Dubai, agree in writing who will handle deregistration. A seller who hands over the car still registered in their name remains on the hook for anything that happens before it is cancelled.

The Nigerian side the buyer will meet

RuleWhat the source saysSource and date

Form MA Form M is required for every import of physical goods, whatever the valueSterling Bank Form M FAQ
VerificationNigeria Customs' CVMS lets anyone check a vehicle's duty status by VIN for a N15,000 feeThe Guardian, 22 Oct 2025

Sources still disagree on the exact age limit (12 or 15 years), and some guides count from the year of manufacture. Check the current rule with a licensed clearing agent before buying an older car. Duty itself is calculated by Customs on the vehicle's value and classification; our guide to duty on used cars from Dubai explains how.

Getting paid by a buyer in Nigeria

Most disputes on this route are about money, not paperwork. A buyer in Abuja who has never seen the car will want photographs, the VIN and an inspection report before paying; a seller in Dubai will not cancel the registration until paid. A common compromise is a deposit on signing, the balance when the export certificate and bill of lading are issued, with both documents sent to the buyer as scans the same day. Check the VIN on the certificate against the car and the invoice: one wrong character can hold the car at the Lagos port until the papers are corrected.

A worked example of the sequence

Example only. Tunde, leaving Dubai, sells his 2019 saloon to a buyer in Abuja.

  1. He pays two outstanding fines and gets his bank's release letter after settling the car loan.
  2. He cancels the registration for export with the RTA, surrenders the plates and receives the export certificate.
  3. He hands the certificate, the cancelled registration and a bill of sale to the buyer's shipping agent.
  4. In Lagos, the buyer's agent lodges the import declaration with the Form M and shipping documents; once duty is paid, the buyer can check the VIN on CVMS (N15,000, Guardian, October 2025) before registering the car in Nigeria.

What to check first

  • The car's model year against the current Nigerian age limit.
  • Fines and bank finance on the car, cleared before your RTA appointment.
  • The RTA's current fee and document list for export deregistration.
  • Shipping: roll-on/roll-off or container, and the agent's quote for Lagos; see shipping from Dubai to Lagos.
  • Clearing at Lagos: see clearing Dubai goods at Apapa and Tin Can.

Where Pryme fits

A car sale across the route often means a buyer paying in naira and a seller who wants dirhams or dollars. A Pryme Business Account holds NGN and USD with local account details, and Swap converts only when you approve, showing the rate and fee first. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's financial activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I ship my Dubai car to Nigeria without an export certificate?

Shipping lines and agents ask for proof the UAE registration was cancelled for export, and the certificate also supports the Nigerian Customs declaration. Do not ship without it.

Can I export a car that still has a bank loan in Dubai?

Expect the RTA to refuse while the bank's mortgage is on the car. Settle the loan and get the bank's release letter first.

How old can a used car be to import into Nigeria?

The Nigeria Trade Information Portal lists used vehicles over 12 years as prohibited (checked October 2026), though some sources still quote 15. Confirm with a licensed clearing agent before you buy.

How do I check that duty was paid on a car from Dubai?

Nigeria Customs' CVMS lets you check a vehicle's status by VIN for N15,000, as reported in October 2025.
