Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

How to get an Ecobank POS (Xpress Point) and the cost

What an Ecobank Xpress Point agent does, how to apply, what Ecobank publishes on tariffs and settlement, and the questions to ask before you sign.

The short answer

To run an Ecobank Xpress Point, you apply through the agent registration link on Ecobank Nigeria's Xpress Point page and are assessed by the bank. Ecobank does not publish a POS device price, agent commission or settlement time on that page as checked in October 2026, so get each of those in writing before you sign; its customer tariff sheet (dated December 2019) is the only price list it links.

What an Xpress Point is

Ecobank calls Xpress Points its approved locations where customers can use simple banking services without travelling to a branch. In Nigeria, people often call this "getting an Ecobank POS", but the role covers more than card payments. According to Ecobank, an Xpress Point can offer:

  • Opening Ecobank Xpress Accounts.
  • Deposits and withdrawals on Xpress, current and savings accounts.
  • Redeeming Xpress Cash e-tokens.
  • Airtime top-up and bill payments (TV, internet, utilities).
  • Issuing and reloading the Cash Xpress prepaid card.
  • Sending money locally and, in selected locations, internationally through Rapidtransfer, Western Union, Ria, MoneyGram and other partners Ecobank names.

Ecobank says agents cannot accept or pay cheques, cannot take loan requests and cannot open current or savings accounts.

How to apply

  1. Go to Ecobank Nigeria's Xpress Point page and follow "Become an agent" or "Register as an agent", which links to an agent enrolment form.
  2. Complete the form with your business details and location.
  3. Expect Ecobank to assess your shop, cash float and records before accreditation.
  4. Once approved, you receive an agent code and accreditation materials. Ecobank tells customers to look for the Ecobank Xpress Point name and logo, an 8-digit agent code (in some places 11 digits starting with 326), an accreditation certificate and a branded transaction log book.
  5. Transactions are processed on the Ecobank Xpress Point agent app.

For Rapidtransfer agency specifically, Ecobank lists stricter requirements: you must be a registered institution (sole proprietorship, company, partnership and so on) with the regulatory approval needed to provide remittance services.

Cost: what is and is not published

The only tariff linked from the Xpress Point page is the customer tariff sheet, marked "Updated 12 12 2019". It shows what customers pay, not what the agent earns:

Service (2019 sheet)Band shownCharge to customer
Cash-in to an Ecobank account₦2,000 to ₦100,000Free
Interbank transfer₦100,000 per transaction₦50
Xpress Account opening—Free
Redeem Xpress token₦10,000 per transaction₦50
Airtime top-up₦5,000 per transactionFree
Bills paymentPer bill₦100

The page does not print a device fee, a caution deposit, the agent's commission share or how quickly agent wallets are settled. Those terms will be in the agent agreement, so ask for them before you commit.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Is a POS device supplied, sold or leased, and at what cost?
  • What share of each fee do I keep, by transaction type?
  • How and when is my float settled after cash-in and cash-out?
  • What are the daily cash and transaction limits on my agent account?
  • Who handles failed transactions? Ecobank says agents cannot reverse transactions manually; the agent must contact the bank.
  • What branding and display rules must I follow?

Running it safely

Ecobank tells customers to wait for its own transaction notification and then check their balance before leaving, and to call 0700 500 0000 with the agent name, agent ID and transaction number if there is a problem. Agents who follow the same discipline avoid most disputes. Read POS terminal vs bank transfer for the wider trade-offs of taking payments in a shop.

Is an Xpress Point right for your shop?

Agency banking suits a business that already has steady foot traffic, a safe place to keep cash and someone who can stay at the counter through the day. It works less well for a shop that closes early or keeps little cash, because customers who come to withdraw will expect the agent to have notes on hand.

  • Cash float. You need enough cash for withdrawals and enough balance in the agent account for deposits. Both tie up money that could otherwise be stock.
  • Security. Holding cash raises the risk of theft; think about where it is kept and how it is moved to the bank.
  • Records. Ecobank expects a branded transaction log book at each Xpress Point. Keep it up to date; it is your first defence in a dispute.
  • Customer trust. Display the agent code and certificate prominently. Ecobank tells customers to look for them, and a customer who cannot see them may walk away.
  • Time. Each transaction takes a few minutes at the counter. Count that against the commission you expect to earn.

Ecobank says Xpress Points often keep longer hours than branches and serve customers who would otherwise travel to a bank. That is the value you sell: convenience close to home. Price it fairly and post the official tariff where customers can read it, as Ecobank asks.

Where Pryme fits

If you mainly want customers to pay you, rather than to offer banking services, a Pryme Business Account offers bank-transfer checkout free of charge, and virtual accounts for matching payments.

Questions people ask

How much is Ecobank POS machine?

Ecobank's Xpress Point page does not publish a device price. Ask for the cost, and whether the device is sold or leased, before you sign the agent agreement.

How do I become an Ecobank agent?

Use the "Register as an agent" link on Ecobank Nigeria's Xpress Point page to reach the agent enrolment form, then complete the bank's assessment.

What can an Ecobank Xpress Point do?

Ecobank lists account opening, deposits and withdrawals, Xpress Cash redemption, airtime, bills, Cash Xpress card issuance and reload, and money transfers in selected locations.

Can an Ecobank agent reverse a transaction?

No. Ecobank says the agent has to contact the bank for a reversal.
