Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Doing business in Imo State: taxes, power and wages

Imo State reference: IIRS tax registration, electricity after the state took over regulation, and the ₦104,000 state minimum wage.

The short answer

Imo State's capital is Owerri, and personal income tax, including PAYE, is collected by the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) at iirs.im.gov.ng. Electricity regulation passed from NERC to the state by January 2025, and Imo's minimum wage was reported at ₦104,000 from October 2025, among the highest in Nigeria.

Imo State at a glance (as of October 2026)

Imo, in the South East, took over electricity regulation from NERC in 2025 and reported a ₦104,000 state minimum wage from October 2025. This page lists the tax office, power arrangements and pay floor, each with its source. For another state reference, see Doing business in Jigawa State.

State taxes: registering with IIRS

Nigerian business taxes are split between the federal and state levels. The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS, formerly FIRS) collects company income tax, VAT and other federal taxes from companies. the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) collects personal income tax from individuals resident in Imo State: employees through PAYE deducted by their employer, and sole traders, partnerships and business names through direct (self) assessment. So which office you deal with depends on how you are set up, which is one reason the choice between a business name or limited company matters.

Who you areMain tax officeWhat it usually means in practice
Limited company registered with CACNRS (federal)Company income tax and VAT go to NRS. As an employer you still register with IIRS to remit your staff's PAYE.
Business name or sole traderIIRS (state)Profits are taxed as the owner's personal income under direct assessment.
Employee living in ImoIIRS (state)PAYE is deducted from salary by the employer and remitted to the state.
Employer of any sizeIIRS (state)Register as an employer, deduct PAYE monthly and file the employer returns the state requires.

A typical sequence for a new business is:

  1. Register the business with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a business name or a company.
  2. Get a Tax ID (the identifier that replaced the old TIN). The steps are in How to get a Tax ID for your business in Nigeria.
  3. Register with IIRS as a taxpayer and, if you will hire staff, as an employer. The state government links the IIRS website from its homepage.
  4. Pay through the channels IIRS lists and keep every receipt or assessment notice; ask for the official receipt each time.
  5. Diarise PAYE remittance for each payroll month. The bands that apply from 2026 are summarised in Nigeria PAYE tax bands for 2026.

Agencies and the local economy in Imo

The Imo State Government portal has business sections on environment and waste management, but the pages did not load content for us. The bodies we could confirm are:

  • Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS): personal income tax, PAYE and state revenue.
  • Imo State Government business portal: environment and waste management sections under 'Business' on imostate.gov.ng.
  • Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC): federal registration of your business before state tax registration.

We could not find an official economic profile or list of markets on the state pages we read, so none is given. Before you take premises, ask IIRS and your local government which permits and levies apply, and get an official receipt for each.

Electricity and pay: DisCo, regulator and minimum wage

NERC's regional map places Imo in the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) area, alongside Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu. NERC announced in January 2025 that the transfer of regulatory oversight to Imo was complete, so retail electricity regulation in the state now sits with the state's own regulator. Check your bill for the name of the current distributor and the complaint route it gives. For outages, estimated bills or band disputes, see how to complain about your DisCo and escalate to NERC.

Nairametrics lists Imo's minimum wage at ₦104,000 from October 2025, well above the ₦70,000 national minimum. The state figure applies to state public servants; private employers must pay at least the national minimum.

Where Pryme fits

Spaces, Pryme's network of merchants, currently runs in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, so businesses in Imo cannot join it yet. Pryme Personal and Business accounts work nationwide and can be opened from any country: one account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, and naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. A Business Account adds bank-transfer checkout (0.5%, capped at ₦2,000) and Finance and Compliance agents that prepare work such as payment runs and reminders, with a person approving anything above a set ceiling. See Business accounts.

How we put this together

We checked the Imo State Government website and the IIRS website directly in October 2026 and recorded agency names as they appear there. DisCo coverage comes from a published summary of NERC data (April 2026); the status of state electricity regulation comes from NERC's January 2025 announcement as reported by Channels TV, which is a secondary source. State minimum wage figures come from Nairametrics' May 2026 state-by-state round-up, which compiles state government announcements; it is a secondary source and figures can change after a state review. Imo's agency pages did not load, and we could not confirm the name of the state electricity regulator or the current distributor's licence from an official page. We did not include tax rates, levy amounts or deadlines that could not be confirmed on the state's own pages.

Questions people ask

Which tax office do I register with in Imo?

If you are an employee, a sole trader or run a business name, your personal income tax goes to the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (iirs.im.gov.ng). A limited company pays company income tax and VAT to the Nigeria Revenue Service, but still registers with IIRS to remit its employees' PAYE.

Which DisCo supplies electricity in Imo?

NERC's regional map lists Imo in the Enugu DisCo (EEDC) area. Regulatory oversight moved from NERC to Imo State, completed by January 2025, so check your bill for the current distributor and complaint route.

What is the minimum wage in Imo State?

₦104,000 from October 2025, according to Nairametrics. Private employers must pay at least the ₦70,000 national minimum.

Can I open a Pryme account if I live in Imo?

Yes. Pryme Personal and Business accounts work nationwide and can be opened from any country. Spaces, Pryme's merchant network, is currently in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt only, so merchants in Imo cannot join it yet.
