Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Doing business in Jigawa State: taxes, agencies and power

Jigawa State reference: JIRS tax registration, the investment promotion agency, Maigatari free zone, Kano DisCo power and wages.

The short answer

Jigawa State's capital is Dutse, and personal income tax, including PAYE, is collected by the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service (JIRS) at jsirs.org.ng. Electricity is distributed by Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), and the state minimum wage was reported at ₦70,000 from December 2024.

Jigawa State at a glance (as of October 2026)

Jigawa, in the North West, has 27 local government areas and a state investment agency that runs an ease-of-doing-business portal, an export processing zone at Maigatari and an industrial park at Gagarawa. This page gathers the facts a business needs, each with a source. For another state reference, see Doing business in Kaduna State.

State taxes: registering with JIRS

Nigerian business taxes are split between the federal and state levels. The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS, formerly FIRS) collects company income tax, VAT and other federal taxes from companies. the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service (JIRS) collects personal income tax from individuals resident in Jigawa State: employees through PAYE deducted by their employer, and sole traders, partnerships and business names through direct (self) assessment. So which office you deal with depends on how you are set up, which is one reason the choice between a business name or limited company matters.

Who you areMain tax officeWhat it usually means in practice
Limited company registered with CACNRS (federal)Company income tax and VAT go to NRS. As an employer you still register with JIRS to remit your staff's PAYE.
Business name or sole traderJIRS (state)Profits are taxed as the owner's personal income under direct assessment.
Employee living in JigawaJIRS (state)PAYE is deducted from salary by the employer and remitted to the state.
Employer of any sizeJIRS (state)Register as an employer, deduct PAYE monthly and file the employer returns the state requires.

A typical sequence for a new business is:

  1. Register the business with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a business name or a company.
  2. Get a Tax ID (the identifier that replaced the old TIN). The steps are in How to get a Tax ID for your business in Nigeria.
  3. Register with JIRS as a taxpayer and, if you will hire staff, as an employer. The JIRS site has assessment, collection and road taxes departments and an online grievance lodgement form.
  4. Pay through the channels JIRS lists and keep every receipt or assessment notice; ask for the official receipt each time.
  5. Diarise PAYE remittance for each payroll month. The bands that apply from 2026 are summarised in Nigeria PAYE tax bands for 2026.

Agencies and the local economy in Jigawa

Bodies a business in Jigawa is likely to deal with, as linked from the state government website:

  • Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service (JIRS): assessment, collection and road taxes; publishes corporate and annual plans and a grievance form.
  • Jigawa State Investment Promotion Agency (investjigawa.gov.ng): ease-of-doing-business (EoDB) portal, PPP disclosure portal, a digital data room and a grievance line.
  • Jigawa State Small Claims Court (jscc.org.ng): a route for recovering smaller debts without full litigation.
  • Jigawa State Youth Empowerment & Employment Agency: linked from the investment agency's site.

The investment agency lists its priority sectors as agriculture and agri-business, solid minerals, manufacturing and renewable energy, and names two sites for investors: the Maigatari Export Processing Zone and the Gagarawa Industrial Park. The state's own LGA guide describes Maigatari as a border town with an international market, Ringim as a commercial and agricultural centre, and several LGAs, including Auyo, Garki and Kiri Kasamma, as agricultural areas with irrigation.

Electricity and pay: DisCo, regulator and minimum wage

NERC's distribution map places Jigawa in the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) area, with Kano and Katsina. Jigawa was not among the states whose regulatory transfer NERC reported in January 2025, so complaints go to KEDCO and then to NERC. For outages, estimated bills or band disputes, see how to complain about your DisCo and escalate to NERC.

Nairametrics lists Jigawa at ₦70,000 from December 2024, matching the national minimum wage that private employers must pay.

Where Pryme fits

Spaces, Pryme's network of merchants, currently runs in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, so businesses in Jigawa cannot join it yet. Pryme Personal and Business accounts work nationwide and can be opened from any country: one account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, and naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. A Business Account adds bank-transfer checkout (0.5%, capped at ₦2,000) and Finance and Compliance agents that prepare work such as payment runs and reminders, with a person approving anything above a set ceiling. See Business accounts.

How we put this together

We checked the Jigawa State Government website and the JIRS website directly in October 2026 and recorded agency names as they appear there. DisCo coverage comes from a published summary of NERC data (April 2026); the status of state electricity regulation comes from NERC's January 2025 announcement as reported by Channels TV, which is a secondary source. State minimum wage figures come from Nairametrics' May 2026 state-by-state round-up, which compiles state government announcements; it is a secondary source and figures can change after a state review. We did not include tax rates, levy amounts or deadlines that could not be confirmed on the state's own pages.

Questions people ask

Which tax office do I register with in Jigawa?

If you are an employee, a sole trader or run a business name, your personal income tax goes to the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service (jsirs.org.ng). A limited company pays company income tax and VAT to the Nigeria Revenue Service, but still registers with JIRS to remit its employees' PAYE.

Which DisCo supplies electricity in Jigawa?

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), which also serves Kano and Katsina.

What is the minimum wage in Jigawa State?

₦70,000 from December 2024, according to Nairametrics, the same as the national minimum wage.

Can I open a Pryme account if I live in Jigawa?

Yes. Pryme Personal and Business accounts work nationwide and can be opened from any country. Spaces, Pryme's merchant network, is currently in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt only, so merchants in Jigawa cannot join it yet.
