Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Does Zelle work for Nigeria? What to use instead

Zelle only moves money between US bank accounts, so it cannot pay a Nigerian account. What a US sender can use instead and how to compare.

The short answer

No. Zelle's help centre says both the sender and the recipient must have US bank accounts, so it cannot send money to a Nigerian bank account or wallet. A US sender paying someone in Nigeria needs an international transfer service licensed in the US and on the CBN's list of licensed IMTOs, such as the remittance apps that pay naira into Nigerian accounts.

The short answer: Zelle stays inside the US

Zelle is a bank-to-bank payment network built into many US banking apps. Because it sits inside many US banking apps, Nigerians in the US ask whether it can reach family at home. Zelle's own help centre settles it: "In order to use Zelle, the sender and recipient's must have U.S bank accounts." Both parties need an eligible US checking or savings account, and recipients are found by email address or US mobile number.

So a Nigerian bank account, an OPay or PalmPay wallet, or a domiciliary account in Lagos cannot receive Zelle. There is no Nigerian "Zelle partner" route.

When Zelle is still useful to Nigerians

  • Paying a friend or relative who also has a US bank account, for example a sibling in another state who then sends home.
  • Settling contributions to a family fund or "esusu" held by someone in the US.
  • Paying a US-based agent or landlord, inside the US only.

What a US sender can use instead

To pay into Nigeria, a US sender uses an international money transfer operator (IMTO). On the Nigerian side, the operator must be licensed by the CBN; the CBN's IMTO page lists the licensed names, including Western Union, MoneyGram, Remitly Inc and WorldRemit Limited. Some app examples, from their own pages checked in October 2026:

ServiceHow the recipient is paidUS-side point from its own page
WiseNaira into a Nigerian bank accountMid-market rate plus a separate fee; example 7.78 USD by direct debit on 1,000 USD (Oct 2026)
Taptap SendNaira into a bank account or mobile moneyZero transfer fee claimed; US limit $10,000 per transfer and per day, $24,000 over 14 days
WorldRemitBank, mobile money, cash pickup or airtime, in nairaFee depends on receive method
Western UnionCash at an agent or into a naira accountSender pays fees; receiving is free

This is not a ranking. Prices change daily, so the right answer is the one that delivers the most naira for the same dollars on the day you send. Our guide to sending money to Nigeria from the US goes further.

Everything now arrives in naira

Whatever service you choose, the recipient gets naira. Licensed IMTOs must pay Nigerian customers only in naira, a rule from the CBN's January 2024 guidelines reinforced by a March 2026 circular with effect from 1 May 2026, according to a summary by Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie. If the family in Nigeria wants to keep dollars, a bank-to-bank wire into their own domiciliary account is a separate route, usually slower and with bank charges at both ends.

How to compare, step by step

  1. Decide the payout the family needs: bank account, wallet or cash.
  2. Get the naira amount for the same dollar amount from two or three services at the same time.
  3. Note the fee line and how you pay (bank debit, card), because both change the cost.
  4. Check the US limit for your state and the recipient's account tier in Nigeria.
  5. Confirm the service's legal name appears on the CBN IMTO list; see how to check.

Worked example

Example only, with made-up quotes. You send 300 dollars. Service A charges 3.99 dollars and converts the rest at ₦1,500: (300 minus 3.99) times 1,500 is ₦444,015. Service B charges nothing but quotes ₦1,480: 300 times 1,480 is ₦444,000. A wins by ₦15, almost a tie. At 1,000 dollars, A gives ₦1,494,015 and B ₦1,480,000, and the gap widens to ₦14,015.

If you hold US dollars and want them in Nigeria as dollars

Some senders want the family to hold dollars rather than naira, for example to pay for a future trip or school fees abroad. Remittance apps cannot do that because of the naira-only rule. The options are a bank wire from a US bank to a Nigerian domiciliary account in the recipient's name, which needs the receiving bank's SWIFT code and charges at both ends, or the family holding a dollar account that can receive US payments directly. Ask the receiving bank what it charges on inbound wires before choosing.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account can be opened from any country and comes with USD account details, so dollars can be paid in and held, then converted with Swap when you choose, the rate shown first and the fee on its own line. Outside Nigeria, these services are provided through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I send money to Nigeria with Zelle?

No. Zelle says both sender and recipient must have US bank accounts, so it cannot reach a Nigerian bank or wallet.

What is the Zelle alternative for sending money to Nigeria?

A CBN-licensed international money transfer operator, such as Wise, Taptap Send, WorldRemit or Western Union, that pays naira into Nigerian accounts. Compare the naira delivered.

Can someone in Nigeria receive Zelle through a friend?

Only if the friend has a US bank account; the money stays in the US. Informal swaps where someone pays you naira in return carry real fraud risk.

Is Zelle available in Nigeria?

No. Zelle works only between eligible US checking or savings accounts.
