Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

Can Australian residents buy a Nigerian diaspora bond?

Nigeria's only diaspora bond matured in 2022 and was offered in the UK, US and Nigeria. What Australia-based Nigerians can buy instead in dollars.

The short answer

Not at present. Nigeria's one diaspora bond, a $300 million issue at 5.625%, was sold in June 2017, offered in the UK, the US and Nigeria, and matured on 27 June 2022; we found no new diaspora bond in the DMO material we checked as at October 2026. Australia-based Nigerians looking for dollar exposure to the Nigerian government have looked instead at the domestic FGN US dollar bond of 2024, Eurobonds through intermediaries, or Nigerian dollar funds.

The phrase "diaspora bond" still circulates in community groups and on social media, often attached to schemes that have nothing to do with the government. Before you respond to any offer, it helps to know what the real one was, who could buy it, and what exists today.

The 2017 diaspora bond

Issuer
Federal Republic of Nigeria
Size and coupon
$300,000,000, 5.625%, priced at 100%
Dates
Issued 27 June 2017; matured 27 June 2022, with no early redemption
Coupons
Semi-annual, 27 June and 27 December
Denominations
$2,000 and multiples of $1,000
Where offered
The UK, the US and Nigeria, plus other places only where lawful without a public offer
Listing
UK Official List and London Stock Exchange; NSE and FMDQ listing intended

Those details come from the pricing notice published through the London Stock Exchange on 20 June 2017. ThisDay reported at the time that it was registered with the US SEC and the UK Listing Authority and was sold through private banks and wealth managers, and that the government said it would set up a programme for further diaspora fundraising. Australia was not among the named offer jurisdictions, so an Australian resident would have bought, if at all, through an intermediary able to sell it lawfully.

Is there a new one?

We found no announcement of a second diaspora bond on the DMO pages and reports we checked in October 2026. Statements that one was being considered have appeared in the press over the years, but none with terms. The DMO publishes every federal offer on its website; if someone offers you a "diaspora bond" that is not there, treat it as unverified. The 2017 pricing notice said applications went through stockbrokers and other intermediaries, not to the issuer, so a request to pay a personal account is a warning sign. Our Nigeria library tracks Nigeria's dollar bond and Eurobonds for diaspora investors.

What Australia-based Nigerians can consider instead

OptionKey terms (source, date)Access from Australia
Domestic FGN US Dollar Bond (2024)5-year, 9.75% coupon paid semi-annually; minimum $10,000 then $1,000; open to the diaspora with BVN and NIN; exempt from Nigerian income taxes; listed on NGX and FMDQ (DMO FAQ, Aug 2024)The original offer has closed; units trade on the secondary market through Nigerian brokers or banks
FGN EurobondsMost recent sale: $2.35bn in November 2025 (10-year at 8.6308%, 20-year at 9.1297%), aimed at eligible counterparties and professional clients; the DMO FAQ says Eurobond lots are typically around $200,000 (DMO, Nov 2025; Aug 2024)Through an international broker or private bank, if it offers them to you; see buying Nigerian Eurobonds from Australia
Nigerian dollar fundsUnit trusts holding mostly Eurobonds, minimums from $100Directly with the fund manager; see Nigerian dollar funds
Naira government bondsFGN Savings Bonds from ₦5,000Through DMO stockbrokers; see FGN savings bonds from Australia

Eurobond prices move daily. The DMO's table of closing prices on 4 September 2026, for example, showed yields from about 5.6% on the 2027 bond to about 8.2% on the 2051 bond. A bond bought above or below face value earns a different yield from its coupon.

Tax and currency for an Australian resident

Any coupon or gain is foreign income for an Australian tax resident, declared in AUD under the ATO's conversion rules; the ATO says a foreign income tax offset needs tax actually paid overseas, so a coupon exempt in Nigeria gives no offset. A dollar bond also leaves you exposed to the US dollar against the Australian dollar. This is information, not advice.

What to check first

  • The offer appears on the DMO's own website.
  • Who is selling it to you, and whether they may lawfully do so in Australia.
  • The minimum lot, the price you pay against face value, and the yield that implies.
  • Where coupons will be paid, and in which currency.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds US dollars alongside naira, pounds and euros (multicurrency), so dollar coupons can be received and kept in dollars, or converted when you choose with the rate and fee shown first. Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit, and outside Nigeria Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Is there a Nigerian diaspora bond in 2026?

We found none on the DMO pages and reports checked in October 2026. The only one, issued in 2017, matured on 27 June 2022.

Who could buy Nigeria's 2017 diaspora bond?

It was offered in the UK, the US and Nigeria, in $2,000 minimums, through banks and wealth managers.

Can I buy the FGN dollar bond from Australia?

The 2024 offer was open to the diaspora with a BVN and NIN. It has closed, but it trades on the secondary market through Nigerian brokers.

What is the minimum for Nigerian Eurobonds?

The DMO's FAQ says lots are typically around $200,000, which is why most individuals use dollar funds instead.
