Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Waste levy in Calabar: CUDA charges and collection

Who handles refuse in Calabar, the 6pm to 10pm disposal rule, what is known and not published about waste charges, and how to check a collector is official.

The short answer

In Calabar, the Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) carries out street cleaning and gutter desilting, and since June 2023 a state guideline requires residents to dispose of refuse only between 6pm and 10pm daily, with defaulters liable to prosecution under the state's environmental law (THEWILL). No official schedule of household or shop waste charges was found published online as at October 2026, so ask CUDA directly for the current rate and pay only against an official receipt or government payment channel.

Calabar has long been described as one of Nigeria's cleaner cities, and the state government has returned to the subject several times in recent years. For a household or shop the practical questions are simple: who collects, when can I put refuse out, what do I pay, and how do I know the person at my gate collecting money is official? This guide answers what can be answered from published sources and says plainly where the figure is not public.

Who does what

Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA)
Directed in 2023 to mobilise staff for street cleaning and gutter desilting; also moves against street trading that causes environmental nuisance
CUDA Director of Waste Management
Eastern Ekpeyong, who warned in May 2026 that dumping refuse into drains could cause severe flooding
Evacuators
Clear waste from dumpsters to designated disposal points, according to the 2023 guideline
Residents and businesses
Bag waste and take it to dumpsters only within the permitted hours

The 2023 announcement came from the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche, on behalf of Governor Bassey Otu, and took effect immediately. Its stated aim was to give evacuators room to clear dumpsters and move waste to disposal points.

In May 2026, at a meeting with the Ikot Ansa community, CUDA's Director of Environment, Gabriel Etim, speaking for Executive Secretary Chief Ayi Effiong, said that approvals for container placement remain the agency's exclusive responsibility, and warned against placing containers on green areas, road setbacks or under high-tension lines. CUDA also said it was considering mobile toilets and stronger enforcement of environmental rules (CRS Ministry of Information).

The disposal rule

  • Bag waste so it does not spill into gutters, which CUDA is clearing.
  • Do not drop bags at the dumpster in the morning on your way to work.
  • Shops should arrange a closing-time routine so waste goes out within the window.
  • Large or construction waste needs separate arrangements; ask CUDA.

The article did not give fine amounts. If you are stopped, ask the officer for identification and the law or notice they are enforcing.

What you may be asked to pay

Many Nigerian cities charge a monthly or yearly sanitation or waste fee, sometimes collected by private operators on the government's behalf. For Calabar, we could not find a published official schedule of waste charges, nor a public list of approved collectors, as at October 2026. That means two things: you should ask for the current rate directly from CUDA or the state government, and you should be careful with anyone who collects cash at your gate.

How to check a collector is official

  1. Ask for staff identification and the name of the agency or operator they work for.
  2. Ask for a written demand notice showing your address, the period and the amount.
  3. Pay only into a government revenue account or official payment channel, and keep the receipt. Do not pay cash into a personal account.
  4. If in doubt, visit or call CUDA and ask whether that notice and person are genuine.
  5. Keep every receipt; you may need them when you move or sell.

Worked example: budgeting for waste

Suppose a household is asked to pay ₦2,000 a month and a small shop ₦5,000 a month. Over a year that is ₦24,000 for the household and ₦60,000 for the shop. A shop that also pays a private carter ₦1,500 a week for bulk waste spends a further ₦1,500 × 52 = ₦78,000 a year, so ₦138,000 in total. Put the figure into your annual budget alongside rent, as the two often fall due together.

Reporting dumping and blocked drains

If refuse is dumped outside the permitted hours on your street, or a drain is blocked, report it to CUDA with the location and, if safe, a photo. CUDA's waste director has linked refuse in drains to flooding, so blocked drains in the rainy season are worth reporting early. Community and youth leaders, such as those who met CUDA in Ikot Ansa in May 2026, can also raise street-level problems with the agency.

Tenants, landlords and moving

Check your tenancy agreement for who pays waste and environmental charges. Where the landlord pays and recovers through a service charge, ask to see the receipts. When you move out, settle charges to the date you leave and keep the receipt, as you would for electricity. Our guide to the cost of living in Calabar shows how these charges fit in a monthly budget, and opening a shop in Calabar covers rules for traders.

Where Pryme fits

If you pay a waste charge by transfer from the Pryme App, the payment sits in your history, and with VerifyDoc.ai receipts you can produce a verifiable receipt that a landlord or new tenant can check is genuine and unaltered. A Personal Assistant can remind you before the charge is due; nothing is paid until you approve.

Questions people ask

What time can I throw refuse in Calabar?

Between 6pm and 10pm daily, under the guideline announced in June 2023. Defaulters can be prosecuted under the state's environmental law.

How much is the waste levy in Calabar?

No official schedule of waste charges was found published online as at October 2026. Ask CUDA directly for the current rate and pay only against an official demand notice and receipt.

Who collects refuse in Calabar?

CUDA carries out street cleaning and gutter desilting and has a Director of Waste Management; evacuators clear dumpsters to disposal points. Ask CUDA which operators are approved for your area.

Someone came to my gate to collect sanitation money. Is it real?

Ask for identification and a written demand notice, pay only into an official channel, and confirm with CUDA if unsure.
