Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Getting a credit card in Spain with no credit history

How Spanish banks judge a newcomer with no record, why your Nigerian history does not travel, and the steps that build a Spanish profile.

The short answer

Spanish banks judge a newcomer mainly on what they can see themselves: your income paid into their account, how long you have banked with them, your residence status and whether you appear in any debt file. Your Nigerian credit history does not transfer, so the usual route is to have your salary paid into one bank for a few months, use a debit card, and then ask that bank what credit limit it can offer.

Arriving in Spain with a long, clean record at Nigerian banks and credit bureaus, many people are surprised to be refused a credit card. The reason is simple: credit records are kept country by country. HSBC UK, for example, states plainly in its guidance for newcomers that credit history does not move abroad because bureaus collect data per country. In Spain you start with a blank file. This guide explains what Spanish banks look at instead and how to build a record.

What a Spanish bank looks at

FactorWhy it mattersWhat you can do
Salary paid into the bank (nómina domiciliada)The bank sees regular income directlyPay your salary into the bank you want credit from
Time as a customerMonths of account historyKeep one main account and use it
Residence and TIE validityWhether you will be reachable for the termKeep your TIE current on file
Employment type and stabilityPermanent or temporary contract, time in jobShow your contract and vida laboral
Debt filesWhether you appear as owing moneyKeep every bill and contract paid on time
Debts reported to the central registerLoans and credit you already holdDo not take several small credits at once

The Banco de España runs a central register of credit risks (CIRBE) to which institutions report borrowers' exposures, and private files record unpaid debts. Our guide to credit history in Spain: CIRBE and ASNEF explains both.

Steps that build a record

  1. Make one bank your main bank. Pay your salary in, set up direct debits for rent and utilities, and use the debit card.
  2. Update your residence. If you opened a non-resident account, switch it to resident as soon as you have a TIE.
  3. Keep contracts in your name and paid. Phone, electricity and internet bills paid on time keep you out of debt files.
  4. Ask the bank, not a comparison site. After a few months of salary, ask your bank what limit it can offer. The bank offers a limit; you decide whether to accept it.
  5. Start small. A low limit used and repaid in full each month is better for you than a higher limit you carry from month to month.

Documents to have ready when you apply

  • TIE and passport, with the TIE valid well beyond the date you apply.
  • Employment contract and recent payslips, or for the self-employed, recent tax returns.
  • Your vida laboral, which shows how long you have contributed in Spain. You can get it online after registering for Cl@ve, which you can do online or in person at a registration office.
  • Padrón certificate if the bank does not already hold your current address.

Applying to several banks in a short time rarely helps. Each application is a separate assessment, and a cluster of refusals tells you nothing new. It is better to ask your own bank what it needs to see and come back when you have it.

Credit card or debit card with deferred payment?

Spanish banks often offer cards that can work in two modes: pay in full at the end of the month (fin de mes), or spread payments (pago aplazado or revolving). The second mode charges interest. Lenders state interest as a nominal rate (TIN) and an annual equivalent rate (TAE); the TAE includes fees and is the one to compare.

Worked example (illustrative)

Example: you spend €1,000 and repay €100 a month on a revolving card at an illustrative 20% TAE, roughly 1.53% a month. First month interest is about €15.30, so only €84.70 of your €100 reduces the balance. Repaying the full €1,000 at month end in fin de mes mode costs no interest. Check your card's actual TIN, TAE and fees on the contract.

Your Nigerian history elsewhere

Some lenders in other countries do read foreign records. HSBC UK says that, with your permission, it accesses credit history from selected countries, including Nigeria and Spain, through Nova Credit for its newcomer cards. That helps if you later move to the UK; we did not find a Spanish bank publishing a similar service.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme's credit, Loans on Spaces, is naira credit for use with merchants in Nigeria, so it does not build a Spanish record. If you keep money in Nigeria, a Pryme account opened from any country holds naira and euro with local details, and Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Outside Nigeria, these services run through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I get a credit card in Spain as a foreigner?

Yes, but banks assess your Spanish income, residence and account history. With no history, start by paying your salary into one bank.

Does my Nigerian credit score count in Spain?

No. Credit records are kept per country, so Spanish banks start from a blank file.

What is the difference between TIN and TAE?

TIN is the nominal interest rate; TAE is the annual equivalent rate including fees. Compare cards by TAE.

How long until a Spanish bank offers me credit?

It depends on the bank. Many look for several months of salary paid into the account; ask your bank directly.
