Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Copywriting business: what to charge and how to find clients

How to price copywriting work in Nigeria by project, not by word, where clients come from, what a portfolio needs, and labelled pricing examples.

The short answer

There is no official rate card for copywriting in Nigeria, so price by project and by the value of the work: a sales page or email sequence that brings in revenue is worth more than a blog post of the same length. Work out your day rate from what you need to earn, estimate the days a job takes, and quote a fixed fee with a deposit. Clients usually come from referrals, small businesses you approach directly, agencies and LinkedIn.

What copywriters are paid for

Copywriting is writing that asks someone to act: buy, sign up, call, book. It is different from content writing, which mainly informs. Businesses pay copywriters for sales pages, product descriptions, adverts, email and WhatsApp campaigns, website pages, brochures, scripts for videos, and brand messaging. The better you can show that your words moved a number, the more you can charge.

How to set your price

We found no reliable published survey of Nigerian copywriting rates, and prices quoted on social media vary widely. Build your own price from your costs and the value of the work instead.

  1. Set a monthly income target that covers your living costs, tax, data, power and tools.
  2. Count billable days. Expect to spend a share of your week finding clients, invoicing and learning; you will not bill every day.
  3. Divide to get a day rate. That is your floor, not your price.
  4. Estimate the days per job, including research, drafts and revisions.
  5. Quote a fixed project fee, and add more where the work drives sales directly.

Worked example: setting a day rate (example figures)

Example only. A copywriter targets ₦600,000 a month and expects to bill 12 days. The floor day rate is ₦50,000. A landing page estimated at two days (brief, research, two drafts, one revision round) is quoted at ₦100,000; a five-email launch sequence estimated at three days is quoted at ₦150,000. If the client is a growing brand whose launch is expected to bring in far more, the copywriter might quote higher and explain why. These figures are illustrations, not market rates.

Pricing modelWorks well forRisk
Per projectDefined pieces such as a sales pageScope creep unless revisions are capped
Monthly retainerOngoing social, email or web copyUnder-pricing as the workload grows
Per wordSome publishers and international platformsRewards length, not results
Fee plus bonusCampaigns with clear sales trackingDisputes over what caused the sales

Where clients come from

  • Referrals: past clients and other freelancers (designers, web developers, social media managers) who need a writer.
  • Direct approach: small businesses whose websites, menus or Instagram captions could clearly sell better. Send a short, specific note with one rewritten example.
  • Agencies: marketing and design agencies that subcontract copy when busy.
  • LinkedIn and X: post short breakdowns of good and bad copy; decision-makers read them.
  • International freelance platforms: useful for building a record, but read each platform's fees and payout rules first.

For working with clients abroad, see pricing in dollars or naira and deposits and milestones.

A portfolio that wins work

Clients hire on evidence. Three to five strong samples beat twenty weak ones. If you have no clients yet, write spec pieces for real local businesses (without passing them off as commissioned work) and explain your thinking: who the reader is, what you wanted them to do, and why each choice serves that. Where you have results, such as more enquiries or a higher click rate, state them with the client's permission.

Writing a brief before you write the copy

Most revision fights start with a vague brief. Before quoting, send the client a short questionnaire and agree the answers in writing. It protects your price, because anything outside the brief becomes a new job.

Reader
Who exactly will read this, and what do they already believe about the product?
Action
The one thing the reader should do next: buy, book, call, sign up, reply on WhatsApp.
Offer
Price, guarantee, delivery terms, and anything the client cannot promise.
Proof
Reviews, numbers, certifications or case studies you are allowed to use.
Voice
Two or three brands whose tone the client likes, and words they never want used.
Measure
How the client will judge success: enquiries, sales, sign-ups or clicks.

Keep claims honest. Do not write that a product cures, guarantees or is approved by a regulator unless the client can show you evidence; the copy carries your name in your portfolio.

Growing from freelancer to small business

Once demand outruns your hours, you can raise prices, specialise in one sector such as real estate, fintech or schools, or bring in other writers and edit their drafts. Specialists usually charge more because they need less briefing and know what the reader responds to. If you add writers, agree their pay per piece in writing and keep the client relationship yourself.

Contracts, deposits and getting paid

  • Agree scope, number of revisions, deadline and fee in writing before you start.
  • Take a deposit, often half, before writing; take the balance on delivery of the final draft.
  • State who owns the copy after payment, and whether you can show it in your portfolio.
  • From January 2026, a ₦50 stamp duty applies to transfers of ₦10,000 or more and is deducted from the sender, so a client paying you by transfer bears it.

Registering a business name with the CAC can help with corporate clients; the May 2025 fee schedule put registration at ₦20,000.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account includes invoicing for deposits and balances, and holds USD, GBP and EUR alongside naira for foreign clients (see business multicurrency).

Questions people ask

How much should a copywriter charge in Nigeria?

There is no official rate. Work out a day rate from your income target and billable days, estimate how long each job takes, and quote a fixed project fee. Charge more where the copy drives sales directly.

How do I get copywriting clients in Nigeria?

Through referrals, approaching small businesses directly with a specific example, agencies that subcontract, and posting useful copy breakdowns on LinkedIn or X.

Do I need a degree to be a copywriter?

No. Clients hire on portfolio and results. Three to five strong samples with your reasoning explained will do more than a certificate.

Is copywriting the same as content writing?

Not quite. Copywriting aims to make the reader act, such as buy or sign up; content writing mainly informs. Many writers do both but price them differently.
