Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Consular birth record or NPC attestation: which you need

What an NPC birth certificate, an NPC attestation and a foreign birth certificate each are, and which one NIS, NIMC and foreign embassies ask for.

The short answer

Nigerian missions abroad do not issue a Nigerian birth certificate; none of the consular pages we read lists birth registration. The NPC issues a birth certificate for births it registered and an attestation of birth for adults who were never registered, backed by a sworn declaration of age. For a child born abroad, Nigerian agencies work from the foreign birth certificate; adults born in Nigeria without a certificate need the NPC attestation.

Diaspora forums mix three different documents under the phrase "Nigerian birth certificate". One is the National Population Commission (NPC) birth certificate. Another is the NPC attestation of birth. The third, which people sometimes call a consular birth record, is usually just the foreign birth certificate issued where the child was born. Knowing which is which saves a wasted application.

The three documents

DocumentWho issues itWho it is for
NPC birth certificateNational Population CommissionBirths registered with the NPC in Nigeria; free for young children at NPC centres
NPC attestation of birthNational Population Commission, signed by the state or FCT chief registrarAdults born in Nigeria whose birth was never registered
Foreign birth certificateCivil registry of the country of birthChildren born abroad, including to Nigerian parents

Is there a consular birth registration?

Some countries register their citizens' foreign births at embassies. We found no Nigerian mission page that offers this. The Nigeria High Commission London's consular page, read in October 2026, lists document authentication, police checks, a certificate of no impediment and pension attestation, but no birth registration. The High Commission in Ottawa lists "citizen registration" as an online form without saying what it records, and its attestation letter for non-Nigerian passport holders asks for an NPC birth certificate, not a mission one. If your mission offers a birth record, ask what it is used for before paying.

The NPC attestation in detail

The attestation exists because many Nigerians born before the NPC took over civil registration in 1992 have no certificate. Key points from the sources we checked:

  • It is for adults. ITEdgeNews (July 2026) describes it as being for people aged 18 and above; TechCabal (2024) gave 17 and above.
  • It rests on a sworn statement. TechCabal says a court affidavit sworn before a Commissioner for Oaths is mandatory; an older Canadian government research report describes it as backed by a High Court declaration of age.
  • It can be requested on the NPC self-service portal, launched in August 2026, alongside corrections and verification.
  • TechCabal reported a ₦3,000 processing fee in 2024. Treat that as dated and check the fee on the portal.

Which one each agency asks for

NIS (passport)
NPC birth certificate for those born from December 1992, or a declaration of age; for minors, NPC certificate "for minors born in Nigeria". Children born abroad use the foreign certificate.
NIMC (date of birth change)
The NIMC self-service page asks for the NPC certificate number and upload: a digitised NPC attestation if born before 1992, an NPC birth certificate if after.
Foreign embassies in Nigeria
The Belgian Embassy in Abuja verifies birth certificates through the NPC website and, for an attestation, asks for the original attestation, an NPC verification letter, the original statutory declaration of age and ID.
US immigration
The State Department accepts the NPC certificate of birth and, for births before 1979, the NPC attestation; it notes the NPC does not issue certified copies.

Choosing the right one

  1. Child born abroad? Use the foreign long-form birth certificate. Do not apply for an attestation; it is for adults born in Nigeria. See registering a child born abroad with the NPC.
  2. Adult born in Nigeria with an NPC certificate? Use it, and check it verifies on the NPC portal before a foreign embassy asks.
  3. Adult born in Nigeria with no certificate? Swear a declaration of age, then apply for the attestation; see a late birth certificate for adults and age declaration affidavits.
  4. Hospital or local government certificate only? These are older alternatives the State Department lists, but NIS and NIMC name the NPC document. Expect to need the NPC one.

Worked example

Example only: Emeka, 44, born in Enugu in 1982, lives in Toronto and needs his date of birth corrected on his NIN. He has a baptismal card only. He swears a declaration of age, applies for an NPC attestation online, then uploads the attestation on the NIMC self-service modification page. His daughter, born in Toronto, needs none of this: her Ontario birth certificate is her record.

Getting the details right first time

Whatever document you apply for, the details on it will follow you into your NIN, passport and bank records, so check them before you submit. Use the same spelling and order of names as your passport. Make the date of birth on your declaration of age match the one you want on every other record, because a later change means another affidavit and another fee. If the NPC portal offers a single download, save the file in two places straight away and print a copy. Before sending the document to a foreign embassy or a Nigerian agency, use the verification service the NPC portal lists to confirm the record shows correctly; embassies such as Belgium's check the NPC record themselves, and a mismatch there will stop the application.

Where Pryme fits

Attestation and correction fees are paid in naira through Nigerian portals. Holding naira in a Pryme Personal Account beside your local currency means you can pay them yourself from abroad, and your Personal Assistant can remind you to download the certificate before the portal's single-download window passes.

Questions people ask

Can the Nigerian embassy issue a birth certificate?

None of the mission pages we read lists birth registration. A child born abroad uses the foreign birth certificate for Nigerian purposes.

What is NPC attestation of birth?

A document the NPC issues to adults born in Nigeria who were never registered, based on a sworn declaration of age. It is requested on the NPC portal.

Is NPC attestation the same as a birth certificate?

No. The certificate records a registered birth; the attestation confirms details for an unregistered adult. NIMC accepts the attestation for people born before 1992.

Which birth certificate does NIS accept for a passport?

An NPC birth certificate for those born from December 1992, or a declaration of age. Children born abroad use their foreign certificate.
