Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Courier lost or damaged your goods: how to complain

Your parcel vanished or arrived broken. How to read the waybill, claim from the courier, and escalate to NIPOST's courier regulator or the FCCPC.

The short answer

Claim from the courier in writing first, using your waybill number, photos and proof of value, and within any claim window printed on the waybill. If the company does not resolve it, you can complain to the FCCPC through complaints.fccpc.gov.ng or its lines 0805 600 2020 and 0805 600 3030. Courier firms are licensed by NIPOST's Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department, which is also worth notifying, especially if the firm is unlicensed.

Parcels go missing for many reasons: wrong addresses, theft in transit, poor handling, or a business that takes payment and never ships. Your rights depend on what you agreed to when you handed the parcel over, and on general consumer protection law. This guide walks through the claim in the order that gives you the best chance of being paid.

Start with the waybill

The waybill, or shipping receipt, is your contract with the courier. Find it and read the back or the terms link. Look for these points:

  • Declared value. What value you stated for the goods. Many couriers limit what they pay to the declared value, or to a fixed cap unless you paid for insurance.
  • Insurance or extra cover. Whether you paid for it, and what it covers.
  • Claim window. How many days you have to report loss or damage. Miss it and the courier may refuse the claim, so act quickly.
  • Excluded items. Cash, jewellery, documents and fragile goods are often excluded or limited.
  • Delivery proof. Whether the courier needs a signature on delivery. If someone signed who was not the recipient, ask for the proof of delivery.

We have not listed any courier's liability figures, because each firm sets its own and they change. Your own waybill is the document that counts.

Make a written claim to the courier

  1. Report by phone and get a claim or complaint number.
  2. Send an email or letter the same day with the waybill number, date of dispatch, origin and destination, a description of the goods, and the value with proof (invoice or receipt).
  3. For damage, attach photographs of the packaging and the goods before you throw anything away, and keep the packaging.
  4. State what you want: a refund of the shipping fee, payment for the goods, or a replacement, and give a reasonable deadline, such as 14 days.
  5. Keep every reply. If staff promise something on the phone, ask them to confirm it by email.

Escalate to the FCCPC

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) handles consumer complaints against businesses. Its website lists these channels: the complaints portal at complaints.fccpc.gov.ng, email contact@fccpc.gov.ng, phone lines 0805 600 2020 and 0805 600 3030, a toll-free line on +234 800 000 2121, and its office at 23 Jimmy Carter Street, Asokoro, Abuja. Attach your waybill, your written claim and the courier's replies. In Lagos you can also use the state's consumer protection agency; see LASCOPA complaints.

Tell the courier regulator

Courier companies need a licence from NIPOST, the Nigerian Postal Service, through its Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD). ThisDay reported in February 2023 that Nigeria had 716 licensed courier operators and about 500 unlicensed ones as at December 2022. If your courier is unlicensed, you have fewer ways to get redress, and the regulator should know. Ask the courier for its licence number. We could not find a public online register to check it, so contact NIPOST directly, and keep the courier's answer as part of your evidence.

Worked example: a damaged phone

This is an example. Chidi sends a phone worth ₦280,000 from Lagos to Abuja and pays ₦6,500 for shipping. He declares the value as ₦280,000 and pays ₦4,000 for extra cover. It arrives with a cracked screen. He photographs the box and the phone on the day, emails the claim with the invoice, and asks for the repair cost of ₦95,000 plus his ₦6,500 shipping fee, a total of ₦101,500. Because he declared the full value and paid for cover, his claim is far stronger than if he had declared ₦20,000 to save money. If the courier ignores him past its stated timeline, he files with the FCCPC with all the documents attached.

If the courier offers less than you asked

Couriers often reply with an offer based on the declared value or their cap. Before you accept, compare the offer with the terms on the waybill. If it matches the terms, a regulator may not be able to get you more. If it is below the terms, or the courier is refusing on grounds the terms do not mention, say so in writing and quote the clause. Accepting a payment marked "full and final settlement" may end your claim, so read any release form before you sign.

If you paid a seller who used the courier

If you bought goods online and they never arrived, the seller, not you, is usually the courier's customer. Your claim is against the seller, and your payment route may help. See goods never came: chargeback or FCCPC. If the seller vanished, treat it as fraud and see reporting fraud to the police.

What to check first

  • Do you have the waybill number and the courier's terms?
  • Did you declare the real value, and did you pay for cover?
  • Are you still inside the claim window?
  • Have you photographed the goods and the packaging?

This is consumer information, not legal advice.

Questions people ask

Where can I report a courier company in Nigeria?

First to the courier in writing. If unresolved, to the FCCPC at complaints.fccpc.gov.ng or 0805 600 2020. Courier licensing sits with NIPOST's Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department.

Will a courier pay the full value of my lost parcel?

It depends on the waybill. Many couriers limit payment to the declared value or a cap unless you paid for cover. Read your waybill terms.

How long do I have to report a damaged parcel?

Each courier sets its own claim window on the waybill. Report on the day you notice and confirm by email.

Does NIPOST regulate private courier companies?

Yes. Courier operators are licensed by NIPOST's Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department, which ThisDay reported had licensed 716 operators as at December 2022.
