Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Complaining about an HMO or hospital to NHIA

Where to complain when an HMO or NHIA hospital fails you: the HMO first, then NHIA offices or call lines, what to keep, and what the law says.

The short answer

Start with your HMO in writing, then take the complaint to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) through its offices, its published lines (+234 805 928 2008 or +234 806 574 4100) or info@nhia.gov.ng. The NHIA Act requires the Authority to run a complaints system and an ombudsman for enrollees, but none of the NHIA pages we checked in October 2026 publish a fixed response deadline, so keep dated records of every contact.

Who you are complaining about

Most NHIA-backed cover in Nigeria involves three parties. Your employer or state scheme pays contributions. A health maintenance organisation (HMO) manages your plan and pays the hospital. The hospital or clinic, called the provider, treats you. A complaint lands faster when it goes to the party that caused the problem.

  • HMO problems: no enrolment number or card weeks after registration, refusal to issue an authorisation code for a referral, a hospital list that keeps changing, unanswered phone lines.
  • Hospital problems: being asked to pay cash for services in your plan, being told "NHIA drugs are out of stock" and sent to buy them outside, poor treatment or being turned away.
  • Employer problems: deductions from pay with no cover behind them. That is partly an NHIA matter and partly a state scheme matter, because the NHIA Act places employer registration with State Health Insurance Schemes.

If you are not sure whether your HMO or hospital is still accredited, check that before you file. See how to check an HMO is NHIA-accredited.

The channels NHIA itself lists

NHIA's FAQ page says complaints can be lodged with NHIA offices, with HMOs or through the NHIA call centre. The contact details on that page in October 2026 were:

Phone
+234 805 928 2008 or +234 806 574 4100
Email
info@nhia.gov.ng
Head office
Plot 297, POW Mafemi Crescent, off Solomon Lar Way, Utako District, Abuja (the page footer gives a different address, 297 Shehu Yar'adua Way, so confirm before posting a letter)
State offices
NHIA has offices in the states; ask the head office for the one nearest you

The page does not give a separate call-centre number from the two lines above. Contact details change, so check the FAQ page on the day you call.

What the law requires

KPMG Nigeria's June 2022 commentary on the National Health Insurance Authority Act summarises three points that matter to a complainant:

  1. The Authority must set up mechanisms for receiving and resolving complaints from scheme members, providers, HMOs and other bodies it accredits.
  2. Section 24 requires regulations on complaints handling and an ombudsman for enrollee complaints.
  3. NHIA can sanction HMOs and providers under its operational guidelines, and accreditation can be withdrawn for breach.

The older NHIS Operational Guidelines of October 2005 already provided a complaints form, required HMOs to place complaint boxes at provider facilities, and allowed a provider's accreditation to be suspended or cancelled after a complaint, an investigation and a hearing. Those guidelines have since been revised; ask NHIA for the current complaints form.

Steps that get results

  1. Write to your HMO first, by email or through its app, so you have a timestamp. State your enrolment number, the hospital, the date, what happened and what you want (an authorisation code, a refund, a change of hospital).
  2. Give the HMO a reasonable, stated time to answer, for example five working days, and say you will escalate to NHIA after that.
  3. If the HMO does not resolve it, email info@nhia.gov.ng and copy your HMO. Attach the earlier messages, receipts for anything you paid, your NHIA card or enrolment slip, and any letter from the hospital.
  4. Call one of NHIA's lines and quote the date of your email. Note the name of the officer and any reference given.
  5. If your cover is through a state scheme, also write to that scheme, because it collects contributions and manages provider payments there.
  6. Keep everything. If you paid out of pocket for something your plan covers, a dated receipt is your only route to a refund.

A short complaint template

"Enrolment number: [ ]. Plan: [employer or state scheme]. HMO: [ ]. Provider: [ ]. On [date] I was [refused service / charged ₦X for drugs / denied a referral code]. I reported this to the HMO on [date] (attached) and have had no resolution. I ask NHIA to [direct the HMO to issue the code / reimburse ₦X / move me to another provider]."

Matching the remedy to the problem

A complaint that asks for something specific is easier to act on than one that only describes a bad experience. These are the outcomes people most often need, and who can usually deliver them:

ProblemWhat to ask forWho can act
No enrolment number weeks after registrationConfirmation of enrolment and the date cover startedHMO, then NHIA or the state scheme
Referral delayed for lack of a codeAn authorisation code, or written reasons for refusalHMO
Charged cash for covered drugs or testsA refund against your receiptHMO, which pays the provider
Repeated poor service at one hospitalA move to another primary providerHMO
Pay deducted but no coverProof of remittance and enrolmentEmployer, state scheme, NHIA

If your complaint is really about an employer that deducts contributions without enrolling you, put the request to the employer in writing first and ask for the remittance schedule. Then send the same facts to the state scheme and NHIA. Employers' duties are covered in NHIA enrolment for employers.

Where Pryme fits

If you pay for care while a complaint is open, a dated record of the payment helps. Pryme customers can generate a verifiable receipt or statement through our partner VerifyDoc.ai, and anyone can check that it is genuine and unaltered; see receipts and statements. A Personal Assistant can also remind you to chase an HMO on the date you set (Personal Assistant). For the bigger picture of cover and what you still pay, read healthcare costs in Lagos and what NHIA cover includes.

Questions people ask

How do I report my HMO to NHIA?

Email info@nhia.gov.ng or call +234 805 928 2008 or +234 806 574 4100, the lines on NHIA's FAQ page in October 2026. Attach your earlier complaint to the HMO and your enrolment details.

What is the NHIA customer care number?

NHIA's FAQ page lists +234 805 928 2008 and +234 806 574 4100. Check the page before calling, as numbers change.

Can a hospital refuse to treat me under NHIA?

A provider should treat you for services in your plan. If you are turned away or asked to pay for covered care, keep the receipt and complain to your HMO, then NHIA.

How long does NHIA take to resolve a complaint?

None of the NHIA pages we checked publish a fixed deadline. Keep dated copies of every message and follow up by phone quoting your email date.
