Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Common money scams in Ilorin: land, student rent and fake alerts

Fake land sellers, double-let student rooms, fake credit alerts, POS card fraud and Ponzi schemes: how each works in Ilorin and the check that stops it.

The short answer

The money scams Ilorin residents most often describe are land sold by people who do not own it, student rooms let to two or more tenants, fake credit alerts sent to traders, stolen cards used at POS points, and Ponzi-style investment platforms. Each one is beaten by a specific check: a records search at KW-GIS, paying only after seeing the landlord's authority, confirming money in your own banking app, and checking an investment platform with the SEC.

1. Land sold by people who do not own it

Ilorin is growing outward, and land on the edges of the city changes hands quickly. The common pattern is a seller who shows a plot, produces a survey plan or a family receipt, collects payment and disappears, or a plot that turns out to have been sold to several buyers, or to sit inside land the government has acquired. Kwara has paid compensation for land acquired for projects such as the Smart City and the Industrial Park, according to state government releases from 2025, which shows that acquisition is real and current.

The legal point that protects you is in the Land Use Act. A holder of a statutory right of occupancy cannot transfer it without the Governor's consent, and transactions contrary to the Act are void. In practice that means a receipt from a seller is not enough: the paper trail has to reach the state's land records. In October 2025 Kwara launched a digital land information system at KW-GIS that records parcels and processes Certificates of Occupancy online. Our guide to verifying a plot at KW-GIS explains the steps.

  • Get copies of every document before paying anything beyond a small, receipted inspection fee.
  • Have a surveyor check the survey plan's coordinates against government acquisitions.
  • For family land, get the consent of the family head and principal members in writing.
  • Pay into an account in the seller's or family's name, never cash to an agent.

2. Student rooms let to more than one person

Around the universities, students and parents commonly report the same trick: an agent or caretaker collects a year's rent for a room, then lets it to someone else as well, or the "landlord" turns out to be a tenant subletting without permission. Because rent is usually paid upfront for a session, the loss is large and arrives just before lectures start.

  1. Ask to meet the landlord, or see a written authority from the landlord naming the agent.
  2. Get a written tenancy agreement with the room number, the period and the amount.
  3. Pay by transfer into the landlord's own account and keep the receipt; avoid paying into a caretaker's personal account.
  4. Visit the room again before the session and ask neighbours who else has viewed it.

If the institution runs its own accommodation portal, use it first. Fees and rents for on-campus housing should be paid only into the accounts the institution publishes.

3. Fake credit alerts

A buyer at a shop or market shows a transfer screenshot, or the trader receives an SMS that looks like a bank alert, and leaves with the goods. The SMS was typed by the buyer, or the screenshot was edited. The only proof that money has arrived is your balance in your own banking app or USSD.

  • Never release goods on the strength of an SMS or a screenshot.
  • Open your banking app and check the balance and the sender's name.
  • If a customer insists the transfer has gone, ask them to wait while it arrives, or to contact their own bank; a real transfer can be traced by the sending bank.

A related trick is the "mistaken transfer", where someone sends you money and then pressures you to send it back to a different account. Read our guide to money sent to you by mistake before you return anything.

4. Stolen cards at POS points

In July 2026 the News Agency of Nigeria reported that POS operators in Kwara were invited by police after withdrawals made with stolen cards and the correct PIN. One operator's account was frozen for over two months after a ₦158,000 withdrawal, and the chairman of the state's POS operators' association said more than 25,000 members had been affected. Kwara police said investigations rely on transaction records, witness statements and CCTV where available. If you run a POS point, keep a log of large withdrawals, take a phone number, and refuse when the person and card do not match.

5. Ponzi and "investment" platforms

Schemes that promise high, steady returns and pay early members from new members' money spread quickly through mosques, churches, campuses and WhatsApp groups. CBEX, which collapsed in April 2025, was not registered with the SEC, according to the SEC warning reported by Nairametrics, and later asked users to pay to access their balances. Under the Investments and Securities Act 2025, Ponzi operators face at least ₦20 million in fines and up to ten years in prison, as reported by ICIR. Before you put in money, check the operator on the SEC's register and read the SEC's list of known investment scams. Our explainer on investment scams in Nigeria lists the warning signs.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme's security uses an authenticator app rather than SMS codes, plus a transaction PIN, and every payment shows in the app. For rent or land payments, a verifiable receipt made with VerifyDoc.ai lets the other side confirm that the receipt is real and unaltered.

If you have been scammed

  1. Call your bank immediately and ask it to flag the receiving account.
  2. Report to the nearest police division and keep the report reference.
  3. For investment fraud, report to the SEC and the EFCC.
  4. Keep every receipt, chat and screenshot.

Questions people ask

How do I avoid land scams in Ilorin?

Do not pay on a receipt alone. Check the plot's records at KW-GIS, have a surveyor check the coordinates, get family consent in writing for family land and pay into an account in the seller's name.

How do I know a hostel agent near UNILORIN is real?

Ask to meet the landlord or see the landlord's written authority, get a written agreement and pay into the landlord's own account.

How do I spot a fake credit alert?

Ignore the SMS and screenshot and check your balance in your own banking app. Only release goods when the money shows there.

Is CBEX registered with the SEC?

No. The SEC said CBEX was not a registered capital market operator, according to Nairametrics in June 2025.
