Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Drug and consumables stock control in a clinic

A working system for a Nigerian clinic: expiry tracking, keeping cold-chain drugs at 2°C to 8°C, reorder levels and regular stock counts.

The short answer

Clinic stock control rests on three habits: issue the earliest-expiring stock first and review anything within 90 days of expiry each month; keep fridge items such as vaccines between +2°C and +8°C and record the temperature at least twice a day; and reorder each item when stock falls to daily usage multiplied by supplier lead time, plus a safety buffer.

Drugs and consumables are often a clinic's second-largest cost after staff, and the easiest to lose quietly: a carton of infusions that expired on the shelf, insulin left out overnight during a power cut, gloves that ran out on a Saturday. A stock system does not need software to work. It needs a few rules applied every day.

Set up the stock list

Start with one list of everything you hold, grouped so the right person owns each part:

  • Pharmacy drugs: oral, injectable and infusion, by generic name, strength and pack size.
  • Cold-chain items: vaccines, insulin and other products labelled for refrigeration.
  • Clinical consumables: gloves, syringes, cannulas, giving sets, gauze, sutures, test strips.
  • Laboratory reagents: often with short shelf life once opened.

For each line record the unit of issue, the supplier, the lead time from order to delivery, and the location. Buy only from suppliers you can verify: the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) offers public searches to verify a pharmacist and a registered premises.

Expiry: first expiry, first out

For medicines the rule is first expiry, first out (FEFO), not simply first in, first out. A newer delivery sometimes carries an earlier expiry date. Arrange shelves so the earliest expiry is in front, and write the expiry month on the outer carton in large marker.

  1. At every delivery, check expiry dates before signing. Refuse short-dated stock unless you agreed it in advance at a lower price.
  2. Each month, list every item expiring in the next 90 days (the window is your choice; 90 days is an example).
  3. Move near-expiry items to the front, use them first in prescribing where clinically appropriate, or ask the supplier about returns.
  4. Remove expired stock to a locked, labelled quarantine area and record the quantity and value written off.

Regulators do act on expired products. In February 2026 NAFDAC sealed 18 warehouses in Bida, Niger State, holding expired food and drink worth over ₦100 million and urged the public to check expiry dates (Nairametrics). A clinic found with expired medicines on its dispensing shelf has a much bigger problem than the write-off.

Cold chain: the fridge is a piece of clinical equipment

Follow the storage temperature on each product's label. For vaccines, the widely used Australian national guidelines (3rd edition, 2019) require storage between +2°C and +8°C, with the fridge temperature read and recorded twice a day. Adopt the same discipline for any refrigerated product:

  • Use a dedicated medicines fridge with a thermometer you can read without opening the door. No food or drinks inside.
  • Record the temperature morning and evening on a chart kept on the fridge door, with the initials of whoever checked.
  • Plan around power: know how long the fridge holds temperature when the supply goes off, and when the generator or inverter must take over.
  • If the temperature is out of range, do not use the stock and do not throw it away. Quarantine it, record the reading and duration, and ask the manufacturer or supplier for advice.
  • Keep stock off the door shelves and away from the cooling plate, where temperatures swing most.

Reorder levels: never run out, never overstock

For each item, set a reorder point: average daily usage × lead time in days + safety stock. Order when stock reaches that number.

Item (example)Daily useLead timeSafety stockReorder point
Amoxicillin 500mg, packs124 days24 (2 days)72
Examination gloves, boxes63 days12 (2 days)30
IV giving sets155 days45 (3 days)120

Check the first line: 12 × 4 = 48, plus 24 = 72 packs. Raise safety stock for items where a stock-out harms patients (emergency drugs, oxygen-related consumables) and lower it for slow, expensive items with short shelf life. For more on the method, see reorder level and safety stock.

Issue, count and reconcile

  • Issue stock from the store to wards or the dispensary only against a signed requisition.
  • Match dispensed drugs to prescriptions and bills daily. A drug dispensed but never billed is a loss, whether through error or theft.
  • Count high-value and controlled items weekly, and everything else monthly, with two people present.
  • Investigate any difference over an amount you set, and record what you found.

Our guides on pharmacy stock, expiry and cold chain and the stock count procedure go further on counting.

What to check first

  1. Is today's fridge temperature recorded, and in range?
  2. What expires in the next 90 days?
  3. Which items are at or below reorder point?
  4. Do dispensed quantities match billed quantities for yesterday?

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme Business Account the Finance agent can prepare supplier payments from approved purchase orders, and bulk payouts pay several suppliers in one approved batch. Nothing is paid until a person approves.

Questions people ask

What temperature should vaccines be stored at?

Follow the product label. Vaccine storage guidelines such as Australia's national guidelines specify +2°C to +8°C, with the temperature recorded twice daily.

What is FEFO in pharmacy?

First expiry, first out: you issue the stock with the earliest expiry date first, even if it arrived later than other stock.

How do I calculate reorder level for drugs?

Multiply average daily usage by the supplier lead time in days, then add a safety stock. When stock falls to that figure, place an order.

What should a clinic do with expired drugs?

Remove them from dispensing areas at once, quarantine and label them, record the quantity and value, and dispose of them through an approved route. Ask your supplier about returns before they expire.
