Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to close a business bank account in Nigeria

The resolution, the cheques and debits to clear first, the final statement and the closure letter, plus what the CBN says banks may charge.

The short answer

To close a company account, pass a board resolution authorising closure, settle any loans, let outstanding cheques clear, cancel standing orders and cards, move the balance, and submit the bank's closure form with the signatories' IDs. Ask for a final statement and a closure or non-indebtedness letter. The CBN Guide to Charges effective 1 January 2020 lists account closure as a waived charge.

Before you start: is closing the right move?

Businesses close accounts when they switch banks, wind up, restructure, or simply have too many accounts to reconcile. Closing is final: the account number stops working, and any payment sent to it later will bounce or sit in suspense. If the account still receives payments from customers, tenants or government agencies, give yourself a few months to redirect them first. If you are trimming accounts, our guide on whether a business needs more than one account helps decide which to keep.

What the rules say about closing

  • No closure fee. The CBN Guide to Charges effective 1 January 2020 lists account closure among charges that are waived.
  • No unreasonable barriers. The CBN's Consumer Protection Regulations, as reported by ThisDay in December 2019, say customers should be able to close or switch accounts without unreasonable barriers, and that requests should be answered within 5 working days.
  • Statements. Monthly statements are free under the 2020 guide; special printed statements can be charged up to ₦20 per page.

Steps to close a company account

  1. Board resolution. Record the decision to close, the account number, the reason, and where the balance should go. Have it signed according to your Articles and the account mandate.
  2. Settle borrowings. Any overdraft, loan, guarantee or letter of credit linked to the account has to be cleared or moved first. The bank will not close an account that secures a facility.
  3. Wait for cheques to clear. List every cheque issued that has not yet been presented. Paper cheques clear by 10pm the next working day (T+1) once presented, under the clearing rules effective 1 September 2018, but a payee may hold one for weeks. Either wait, or stop the unpresented ones in writing and pay those payees another way.
  4. Cancel standing orders and direct debits. Tell the people you pay by direct debit (insurers, pension administrators, subscriptions) to move to the new account.
  5. Return or cancel cards, tokens and unused cheque leaves. Write down the serial numbers of the leaves you hand back.
  6. Move the balance. Transfer it to the new account, leaving only what the bank says it needs for final charges.
  7. Submit the closure request. Banks have their own forms. Access Bank's Account Management Request Form, for example, includes an Account Closure request that asks for the reason and a valid ID, and a separate request for a Letter of Non-Indebtedness.
  8. Get it in writing. Ask for a final statement showing a zero balance and a letter confirming closure.

Expect the bank to check every signatory's identity again at closure. If a signatory has left the company, update the mandate first, or the closure request will not be accepted.

Documents to bring

DocumentNotes
Board resolution to closeOn letterhead, signed per the mandate; a sole proprietor can usually give a signed letter instead
Bank's closure formSigned by the mandated signatories
Valid ID of each signatoryInternational passport, driver's licence, NIN slip or voter's card
Unused cheque leaves, cards and tokensReturned for cancellation
Details of the receiving accountName and number for the final balance

Worked example: timing the final balance

Example only. A consultancy decides on 1 March to close an account holding ₦3,450,000. It has two unpresented cheques: ₦250,000 to a landlord and ₦120,000 to a printer.

  1. Amount to keep back for the cheques: ₦250,000 + ₦120,000 = ₦370,000.
  2. Amount it can move at once: ₦3,450,000 − ₦370,000 = ₦3,080,000.
  3. Once both cheques have cleared, it moves whatever remains after final charges and submits the closure form.

If the printer never presents the cheque, the consultancy writes to stop it and pays by transfer, so the account can close on time.

If the company itself is closing

Closing the bank account is one step in shutting a company down, not the whole job. A company that stops trading still exists at CAC until it is struck off or wound up, and it keeps its filing duties until then. CAC's New Schedule of Fees (29 May 2025) lists voluntary striking off at ₦25,000 for a small company, ₦50,000 for other private companies and companies limited by guarantee, and ₦100,000 for public companies. Keep the bank account open until the last creditors, taxes and filing fees have been paid, then close it as the final financial step. A lawyer or accountant can advise on the right route for your company; this is information, not advice.

After the account is closed

  • Update your letterhead, invoices, website and payment pages with the new account details.
  • Tell the tax authority, pension administrators and regulators that hold your bank details.
  • Keep the final statement and closure letter with your accounting records.
  • If money arrives later, ask the old bank how it handles inflows to closed accounts.

Where Pryme fits

If you are moving accounts, a Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country and holds naira, dollars, pounds and euros with local details for each (business multicurrency). Invoices carry the new details, and a verifiable statement through VerifyDoc.ai can be produced when a client or lender asks (receipts and statements). You can open an account here.

Questions people ask

The CBN Guide to Charges effective 1 January 2020 lists account closure among waived charges. Ask your bank to confirm before you start.
