Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Life in Abuja

Filling seats at an Abuja cinema or entertainment venue

Abuja cinemas and venues face long commutes, quiet weekdays and rainy evenings. A plan for each, and how Spaces brings paying audiences.

The short answer

Abuja cinemas and entertainment venues fill seats by matching showtimes to how the city moves: after-work screenings timed for people who live far out in Kubwa, Lugbe or Nyanya, strong weekend family programming, and school-holiday daytime shows. Joining Spaces lets a venue reach customers who hold Loans on Spaces, credit they can only spend with Spaces merchants, including on cinema and leisure.

What makes Abuja different for a venue

Three things shape cinema attendance in Abuja. First, distance: many residents live in satellite towns and outer districts and travel a long way to reach the malls and leisure areas around Wuse, Jabi, Garki and the city centre. A late film that finishes after 10pm is a hard sell to someone with a 40-minute drive to Kubwa.

Second, the weekday pattern of a government city. Office workers leave the Central Business District and the ministries in a wave in the late afternoon. If they go straight home, you have lost them for the evening. Third, the weather. The rainy season brings heavy evening downpours, and NiMet's 2026 forecast placed the FCT among areas expecting above-normal rainfall. Rain can empty a car park or, if you plan well, keep people indoors watching a second film.

A showtime plan built for Abuja

SlotWho it is forHow to fill it
Weekday 5pm to 7pmOffice staff avoiding rush-hour trafficAfter-work screenings, a snack-and-ticket combo, finish before 9pm
Weekday lateResidents of nearby districtsSmaller screens, lower prices, fewer sessions
Saturday daytimeFamilies from estatesChildren's titles, family bundles, birthday packages
School holidaysPupils and parentsMorning and early-afternoon shows, group rates for schools and camps
Rainy eveningsCustomers already in the mallPromote the next showing on site, offer a discount on a second ticket

The national guide on filling cinema seats on weekdays covers pricing tools such as discount days. In Abuja, the timing of the after-work show often matters more than the price.

Make the evening worth the trip

An Abuja customer who has driven in from the edge of the city wants more than a film. Raise the value of each visit:

  • Bundle tickets with food and drinks at a clear price so a family knows the total before they arrive.
  • Partner with restaurants in the same building for a dinner-and-film deal, with each business charging for its own part.
  • Sell group bookings for office teams, churches and associations, with an invoice and receipt.
  • Keep the venue cool and lit. AEDC supply varies by feeder, so backup power for projection and air conditioning is part of the product.

The national article on raising spend per visit goes further on concessions.

Worked example: a three-screen venue in a Jabi mall

Example only. A venue with 450 seats across three screens sells an average of 35% of seats on weekdays. Tickets average ₦5,000 and concessions add ₦3,000 per head. Moving the main weekday show from 7.30pm to 5.45pm and adding a ₦7,000 ticket-and-snack combo lifts that show from 60 to 95 seats.

That is 35 more customers a day at ₦7,000, about ₦245,000 extra a weekday in the example, or roughly ₦1.2 million over a five-day week. Some of those customers may pay with a Loan on Spaces they have already accepted in the Pryme app; the venue receives a Spaces payment and the customer repays the lender.

Know your catchment

Ask a sample of customers at the box office which district they came from, and note it for a month. Most venues find that a few areas supply most of their audience. A venue in Jabi may draw heavily from Utako, Gwarinpa and Life Camp; one in the city centre may rely on Garki, Asokoro and the office crowd. That list tells you where to put flyers, which estate groups to approach and which schools to call before the holidays.

It also tells you what to show. Audiences from family estates buy more animation and family titles on Saturday mornings. Office crowds lean towards big releases on Friday evenings. Nollywood premieres can fill a screen with groups who come together and spend more on food. Look at a month of ticket sales by title and day before you set the next month's programme.

Occupancy
Seats sold divided by seats available for each show. Track it by slot, not just by day.
Spend per head
Tickets plus food and drinks, divided by customers. The figure to raise once seats are filling.
Catchment
The districts most of your customers travel from.

Reach the right audience

Abuja audiences are spread out, so marketing must be targeted. Post weekly showtimes in estate WhatsApp groups where you have permission, build your own opt-in list at the box office, and work with schools on holiday programmes. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you need a lawful basis such as consent before you add someone's number to a promotional list, and you must stop when they ask.

Watch the calendar too. Public holidays, Sallah and the December period change who is in town. Some residents travel to their home states over Christmas, while others have relatives visiting, so check advance bookings before setting December programming.

Where Pryme fits

Movies and cinema is a supported Spaces sector, and Spaces operates in Abuja. A venue with a Pryme Business Account can join Spaces and reach customers whose Loans on Spaces credit can only be spent with Spaces merchants. The loan is between the customer and Solid Allianze MFB, and the customer accepts the full agreement first. For fees and settlement, ask Pryme through the contact page, and see which businesses can join Spaces for the full sector list.

Questions people ask

What time should an Abuja cinema run after-work shows?

Many venues do better with a show that starts soon after offices close and ends before 9pm, so people from outer districts such as Kubwa and Lugbe can get home at a reasonable hour. Test two start times and compare.

How can a cinema in Abuja get school group bookings?

Contact schools and holiday camps before the holidays with a group rate, a fixed menu and a clear invoice. Offer morning shows when screens would otherwise be empty.

Can customers use Loans on Spaces at my cinema?

Yes, if your venue joins Spaces. Movies and cinema is a supported sector and Spaces operates in Abuja.

Does rain affect cinema attendance in Abuja?

It can. Heavy evening rain discourages trips, but customers already in a mall may stay for another show if you promote it on site.
