Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Child Benefit after ILR: how to claim and backdating

Got indefinite leave to remain? Child Benefit is usually open to you now. How to claim, what to send and the 3-month backdating limit.

The short answer

Once you have indefinite leave to remain, the no recourse to public funds condition usually no longer applies, so you can claim Child Benefit. Claim online with HMRC, or by post or phone, with your child's birth or adoption certificate, your bank details and National Insurance numbers. GOV.UK says Child Benefit can be backdated for up to 3 months from the date you claim, so claim soon after your ILR is granted.

For many Nigerian families in the UK, ILR is the moment Child Benefit becomes possible. Work, study and family visas usually carry the no recourse to public funds (NRPF) condition, and Child Benefit is on the Home Office's list of public funds. ILR changes that. The practical question is how quickly to claim, because the money you can recover for the past is limited.

Why ILR changes things

The Home Office's public funds guidance (April 2025) says Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker, Student and Graduate permission carries NRPF, and that ILR does not, unless it was granted with a maintenance undertaking, as with adult dependent relatives, who stay restricted for 5 years. If your ILR letter or eVisa shows no NRPF condition, Child Benefit is open to you. If you are not sure what your status says, read what NRPF means first; this is information, not advice.

How to claim

GOV.UK says you can claim online through HMRC's service, or by post or phone if you cannot claim online. You can claim 48 hours after registering a birth, or once a child comes to live with you. You need:

  • your child's birth or adoption certificate, if you have it
  • your bank or building society details
  • your National Insurance number, if you have one
  • your partner's National Insurance number, if you have a partner

Points that matter for Nigerian families:

  • If the birth was registered outside the UK, for example a child born in Nigeria, GOV.UK says you need the original birth or adoption certificate and your child's passport or travel document.
  • If your child's only identity document is an eVisa, HMRC checks the details itself; GOV.UK says you do not need to provide a share code.
  • You can claim without the certificate, but it takes longer, and if you do not send it when asked you may need to start again.
  • Documents sent by post are usually returned within 4 weeks, GOV.UK says, so do not post a passport you need for travel.

The 3-month backdating limit

GOV.UK says Child Benefit can be backdated for up to 3 months from the date you make the claim. Every week you wait beyond that is a week you cannot get back.

Example only. Funmi's ILR is granted on 1 July. She claims on 15 September. Backdating can reach back to about 15 June, which is before her ILR. The weeks from 15 June to 30 June fall in a period when she still had NRPF, so she should not assume they are payable; HMRC decides entitlement, and she can ask it. If she had claimed on 2 July instead, every week from her ILR date onwards would have been covered.

At the rates on GOV.UK as at October 2026, £27.05 a week for an eldest or only child and £17.90 for each additional child, a family with two children receives £44.95 a week. If that family waited six months after ILR to claim, about three months could not be backdated: roughly 13 weeks at £44.95, or £584.35. See Child Benefit rates for more on amounts.

Which parent should claim

Only one person can get Child Benefit for a child. GOV.UK's charge page notes that registering keeps National Insurance credits towards the State Pension, so many couples choose the parent who is not working, or earns less, as the claimant. That is especially relevant in Nigerian households where one parent stays home with young children or works part-time: the credits help fill gaps in that parent's record.

If both parents earn over £60,000, the High Income Child Benefit Charge falls on the higher earner, whoever claims, according to GOV.UK. The choice of claimant therefore does not change who pays the charge.

Before you claim: two checks

  1. The income charge. If either parent's adjusted net income is over £60,000, the High Income Child Benefit Charge claws back some or all of it. You can still register and choose not to be paid, which keeps National Insurance credits; see the charge explained.
  2. Time abroad. If you or your child go abroad for more than 8 weeks, GOV.UK says to tell the Child Benefit Office. Long summer trips to Nigeria can affect payments.

Where Pryme fits

Child Benefit is paid into a UK bank or building society account. A Pryme account holds GBP with UK local account details. If you set some of it aside for family at home, Send shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Can I claim Child Benefit after ILR?

Usually yes. ILR does not normally carry NRPF, unless it was granted with a maintenance undertaking. Check your status shows no NRPF condition.

How far back can Child Benefit be backdated?

Up to 3 months from the date you make the claim, according to GOV.UK.

Do I need a share code to claim Child Benefit for my child?

No. If your child's only ID is an eVisa, GOV.UK says HMRC checks the details and you do not need a share code.

My child was born in Nigeria. What do I send?

GOV.UK says the original birth or adoption certificate and your child's passport or travel document.
