Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Chaka is now Hisa: what changed for existing investors

What has been reported about Chaka's June 2026 rebrand to Hisa, what existing investors keep, what is still unconfirmed, and what to check now.

The short answer

Chaka, the Nigerian investment app, rebranded as Hisa in June 2026, according to a Nairametrics report of 23 June 2026: the Hisa app replaces the Chaka app, and existing users keep their portfolios and account histories by updating the app. The report does not give new fees, does not say which entity now holds the licence, and does not mention Risevest, which bought Chaka in 2023.

What was announced

On 23 June 2026 Nairametrics published a piece, credited to its partners desk rather than a staff reporter, headlined "Chaka launches Hisa, a new investment app". It describes Chaka as "Nigeria's first SEC-licensed digital sub-broker" and says the company has rebranded as Hisa. The main points:

  • The Hisa app replaces the Chaka app, on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
  • Existing users keep their portfolios and account histories and reach the new experience by updating the app.
  • New users sign up directly in the app.
  • Hisa is a Swahili word meaning "shares"; the company says the name reflects its presence across African markets.
  • The website is hisa.co, and social accounts use @hisanigeria.

Because the piece reads as a company announcement, treat it as Chaka's own account of the change. Independent detail, such as fees or regulatory filings, was not in it.

How we got here

Chaka was an early mover in letting Nigerians buy local and foreign shares from a phone. Techpoint Africa reported in September 2023 that Risevest had acquired Chaka, in a deal finalised on 26 September 2023 for an undisclosed sum. The founders said then that Chaka would keep running as a separate company and only its shareholder list would change. Techpoint also reported that Chaka received Nigeria's first digital stock trading licence in 2021.

The other Hisa

Some readers will know an earlier app called Hisa. Kenyan Wall Street reported in July 2024 that Hisa, a Kenyan stock-trading app founded in 2020, was in acquisition talks with Risevest, with its chief executive saying "nothing is concrete". The June 2026 Nairametrics piece does not mention Risevest or the Kenyan app, so we cannot confirm whether the new name is connected to that business. If it matters to you, ask Hisa support directly which company you now contract with.

What changes for existing Chaka investors

QuestionWhat the June 2026 report says
Do I keep my shares?Yes: portfolios and account histories are retained.
What do I need to do?Update the app; no other steps are described.
Are fees changing?Not stated.
Which company holds the licence? Not stated; only Chaka's SEC sub-broker status is mentioned.
Is Risevest still the owner? Not mentioned.
Which markets can I trade? The report mentions Nigerian stocks and ETFs; no full list.

In practice, the most important line is the first. A rebrand that keeps your portfolio intact is a change of name and app, not a transfer of your shares to a new broker. Still, verify it rather than assume it.

What to check now

  1. Before or right after updating, record your Chaka holdings: each share, quantity and cash balance. A screenshot or a downloaded statement is enough.
  2. Update only through the official app stores. Do not install a "Hisa" app from a link sent by message.
  3. Open the Hisa app and match every holding and balance against your record.
  4. Read the terms you are asked to accept and note the company name in them.
  5. Find the current fee page in the app and compare it with what Chaka charged you.
  6. Confirm the support email shown inside the app, rather than one posted on social media.

If something does not match

Raise it in writing through the app's support channel straight away, attach your record, and keep the reply. If it is not resolved, SEC Nigeria regulates capital market operators; check its website for how to submit an investor complaint.

Worked example: checking a migrated portfolio

Example only. Before updating, Ifeoma's Chaka screen showed 40 shares of one US ETF, 2,000 shares of a Nigerian bank and a $12.40 cash balance. After updating, Hisa shows 40 and 2,000 units and $12.40. The prices may differ from her screenshot because markets moved, but the quantities and cash must match. If Hisa showed 38 units, that is a question for support, not a market move.

Where this leaves you

For most existing users the change is cosmetic: a new name, a new look and the same holdings. The open questions are about who stands behind the app and what it costs, and those are worth answering before you add new money. For a wider view of the options, read Bamboo vs Trove vs Hisa and how custody works on Bamboo, which raises the same questions any investment app should answer.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not offer share trading. If you keep dollars aside before investing, a Pryme account holds USD alongside naira (multicurrency), and our guide to keeping money safe in fintech apps covers the checks that apply to any platform.

Questions people ask

Is Chaka now Hisa?

Yes. Nairametrics reported on 23 June 2026 that Chaka rebranded as Hisa and that the Hisa app replaces the Chaka app.

What happens to my shares on Chaka?

According to the report, existing users keep their portfolios and account histories and only need to update the app. Check your holdings against a record you made before updating.

Is Hisa owned by Risevest?

Risevest acquired Chaka in 2023, per Techpoint Africa. The June 2026 rebrand report does not mention Risevest, so the current ownership is not confirmed there.

Is Hisa licensed by SEC?

The report describes Chaka as an SEC-licensed digital sub-broker but does not say which entity now holds the licence. Check with SEC Nigeria and in the app's terms.
