Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

CBSA's 72-hour rule for exporting a vehicle

The 72-hour vehicle export rule is a US Customs rule. What the CBSA requires for a car leaving Canada by ship, and when the US rule applies.

The short answer

The 72-hour rule people quote is a US Customs and Border Protection requirement: for vessel or air exports from the United States, the vehicle and its title documents must be presented at least 72 hours before export. The CBSA pages we checked in October 2026 do not set a 72-hour rule; they require an export declaration quoting the VIN, filed at least 48 hours before loading for a car leaving Canada by ship to a country such as Nigeria.

Where the 72 hours comes from

Search for vehicle export rules and the 72-hour figure appears everywhere, often attached to Canada. Its source is US Customs and Border Protection. CBP's page on exporting a motor vehicle (3 December 2024) says that for exports by vessel or air, the exporter must present the documents and the vehicle at least 72 hours before export. CBP asks for:

  • The original Certificate of Title, or a certified copy, plus two copies.
  • The vehicle identification number (or product identification number).
  • For a vehicle under a lien or lease, a signed letter on the lienholder's letterhead.
  • Presentation at a location set by the port director.

That applies when the car leaves through a US port. If your forwarder routes your car through a US port, expect CBP's 72 hours as well as the Canadian reporting.

What the CBSA requires instead

For a car leaving Canada directly, the rules sit in the CBSA's exporters' guide (modified October 2024) and Memorandum D20-1-1, Exporter Reporting (24 October 2024).

RuleWhat the CBSA says
Status of the carA permanently exported conveyance, which counts as goods
IdentificationAll conveyances identified by their conveyance identification number, for a car the VIN
Export to the USDocuments showing the VIN presented on request
Export to Nigeria and other countriesExport declaration quoting the VIN, through CERS or G7-EDI
Marine timeframeAt least 48 hours before loading onto the vessel
Air timeframeAt least 2 hours before loading
ExemptionsPersonal effects, gift and diplomatic exemptions do not cover permanently exported conveyances

Neither page mentions a 72-hour requirement, title documents or a place to present the car. If a Canadian forwarder or port tells you there is one, ask which CBSA document it comes from; it may be the forwarder's own cut-off, which is a contract term, not a customs rule.

Worked example

Example only. A Brampton family books a 2016 saloon on a roll-on/roll-off vessel from Halifax, loading Thursday at 08:00. The CBSA's marine rule means the CERS declaration must be filed by Tuesday at 08:00. The forwarder's own document cut-off is the previous Friday, so the family files by then. If the same car went by truck to a US port loading Thursday at 08:00, CBP's rule would need the car and title presented by Monday at 08:00, 72 hours earlier.

Why the confusion persists

Much of what is written about car exports online is American, and many forwarders that ship from Canada also ship from US ports, so their checklists blend both countries' rules. Forwarders also set their own document deadlines, often several days before sailing, so they can book space and prepare the bill of lading. A forwarder telling you to bring papers 72 hours or a week ahead may be right for its business, but the legal Canadian minimum for a marine export, under the Reporting of Exported Goods Regulations as described in D20-1-1, is 48 hours before loading.

If the car is financed or leased

CBP insists on a lienholder's letter for a financed car leaving the US. The CBSA pages do not describe a lien document, but the lender's interest does not vanish because the car leaves Canada. Clear the loan, or get the lender's written consent, before you ship; a Nigerian buyer or relative will also want clean title.

A timeline to work back from

  1. Three to four weeks before sailing: confirm the Nigerian age limit and ask the Nigerian importer to open the Form M.
  2. Two weeks before: book the vessel and get the forwarder's document cut-off in writing.
  3. By the forwarder's cut-off: ownership papers, VIN, photos and the commercial invoice or bill of sale.
  4. At least 48 hours before loading: CERS declaration filed and proof of report number sent to the carrier.
  5. After sailing: bill of lading sent to the Nigerian importer for clearance.

Before you file

  1. Check that the car can enter Nigeria, given its age (see exporting a used car to Nigeria).
  2. Pay off or release any lien, and hold the ownership papers.
  3. Have a business number with an RM export program account, since the exporters' guide says CERS filers need one through the CARM Client Portal.
  4. Agree with the forwarder who files and who is the exporter of record.
  5. Pass the proof of report number to the carrier.

The CBSA warns that failing to report can lead to monetary penalties, detention or seizure of the goods and possible criminal charges. A car held at the port also misses its sailing.

For how to file, see filing a CERS export declaration.

Where Pryme fits

Clearing the car in Lagos means naira payments to agents and Nigeria Customs. A Pryme Business Account holds naira, and Send shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Does Canada have a 72-hour rule for exporting cars?

The CBSA pages we checked do not set one. The 72-hour rule is a US CBP requirement for vehicles exported by vessel or air from the US.

How early must I declare a car leaving Canada by ship?

At least 48 hours before it is loaded onto the vessel, with an export declaration quoting the VIN.

Is a car for my parents in Nigeria exempt as a gift?

No. CBSA Memorandum D20-1-1 excludes permanently exported conveyances from the gift and personal-effects exemptions.

What documents does US Customs want for a vehicle export?

The original title or certified copy plus two copies, the VIN and, for a financed car, a lienholder letter, presented 72 hours before export.
