Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

CBN Naira 4 Dollar scheme: is the bonus still paid?

The CBN Naira 4 Dollar scheme paid ₦5 per dollar on remittances from March 2021. It ended on 30 June 2023. What came after, and what to ignore.

The short answer

No. The CBN's Naira 4 Dollar scheme, which paid ₦5 for every $1 received as a remittance from March 2021, was discontinued with effect from 30 June 2023, according to a CBN circular reported by ThisDay. No replacement bonus was named; instead, later rules let transfer firms quote market-driven rates and moved payouts to naira.

Relatives still ask whether they will get "the CBN bonus" on money you send, and old articles still rank in search. Here is the position as at October 2026.

What the scheme was

The Naira 4 Dollar scheme "was introduced in March 2021 as an incentive for senders and recipients of international money transfers" and "entailed the payment of N5 for every $1 received as a remittance inflow" (ThisDay, 15 June 2023). ThisDay described it as launched to boost diaspora remittances and bring in foreign exchange through official channels.

When and how it ended

ThisDay reported that the CBN ended the scheme "with effect from June 30" 2023, in a circular on "Operational Changes to the Foreign Exchange Market" signed by Angela Sere-Ejembi, Director, Financial Markets Department. The same circular discontinued the RT200 rebate scheme for non-oil exporters. The report gave no reason and said further guidance "would be communicated in due course".

What came after

No new per-dollar bonus was introduced. The CBN changed how remittances are priced and paid instead:

  • July 2023: a CBN circular added a naira payout option for diaspora remittances at the official window rate on the day (Mondaq, September 2023).
  • January 2024: IMTO guidelines removed the fixed limit on IMTO exchange rates to allow market-driven rates (Templars, February 2024).
  • February 2024: a directive reported by TheCable said IMTO transfers are received only in naira, with sums above the $200 equivalent paid to a bank account.
  • May 2026: a CBN circular required IMTOs to route payouts through naira settlement accounts with authorised dealer banks (Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, March 2026).

The logic of the bonus was to make the official channel more attractive than the informal one. With market-driven rates, the gap the bonus was meant to cover is smaller, and the attraction now comes from the rate itself. For the detail, see CBN's 2024 IMTO rules.

Worked example: what the bonus was worth

Example only. In 2022 a relative receiving $300 through a licensed IMTO would have been credited the naira equivalent plus ₦1,500 (300 × ₦5). Today the same $300 earns no bonus. What changes the naira received is the rate and fee your provider quotes, which can easily differ by more than ₦1,500 between apps on the same day; see NFEM vs app rates.

Why old pages still say it runs

Search results for the scheme are dominated by 2021 and 2022 coverage of its launch and extensions, and some blogs have never been updated. A page that describes the bonus in the present tense is out of date unless it cites a CBN circular issued after June 2023, and none has been found for this guide.

How to check whether any CBN incentive is live

  1. Look for a CBN circular with a date and a named signatory, published on the CBN website. ThisDay's report of the 2023 circular named both, which is the standard to expect.
  2. Check that the circular names the channel it covers (for example licensed IMTOs) and the start and end dates.
  3. Ask the paying bank. A bank crediting a CBN incentive would show it as its own line on the credit alert or statement.
  4. Ignore screenshots and voice notes. Incentive rumours spread fastest on messaging apps, often with a link that asks for bank details.

Provider promotions are different

Transfer firms do run their own offers: a better rate on a first transfer, a fee waiver, a referral reward. These are commercial offers paid for by the firm, with terms that usually limit the amount, the number of transfers and the period. Read the terms before you rely on them, and remember that the rate after the promotion ends is what you will pay month after month. See what happens after a first-transfer promo.

What to tell family at home

  • There is no CBN bonus on remittances in 2026.
  • Money from a licensed transfer firm is paid in naira, to a bank account or as small cash payouts.
  • Promotions from individual firms exist, but they are the firm's offer, not the CBN's.
  • Never pay a "release fee" to receive a bonus; that is a common fraud pattern. See remittance scams.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme offers no remittance bonus. You can hold foreign currency and convert with Swap when the rate suits you; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve, and Send pays a Nigerian bank account. Outside Nigeria, these activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Is the CBN Naira 4 Dollar scheme still running?

No. It was discontinued with effect from 30 June 2023, according to a CBN circular reported by ThisDay.

How much was the Naira 4 Dollar bonus?

₦5 for every $1 received as a remittance through a licensed channel, from March 2021.

What replaced the Naira 4 Dollar scheme?

No new bonus. The CBN later allowed market-driven IMTO rates (January 2024) and required naira payout.

Someone says my family must pay a fee to get a CBN remittance bonus. Is it real?

No. The CBN scheme has ended, and it never required a fee. Treat such requests as a scam.
