Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

Buying Nigerian stocks on the NGX from Italy

How to open a CSCS-linked broker account from Italy, the documents and notarised ID, funding in naira, Nigerian gains tax and Italian reporting.

The short answer

You open an account with an NGX-licensed stockbroker, and the broker creates your CSCS account and Clearing House Number (CHN); CSCS does not open accounts directly. From Italy you will need a valid ID such as your Nigerian passport, your BVN, a Nigerian bank account and contact details, and CSCS says investors outside Lagos and Abuja can submit notarised ID through the broker.

Buying Nigerian shares from Italy works the same way as from Lagos, except that the paperwork travels. The investor relationship is with a stockbroker, the shares sit in the central depository (CSCS) under your CHN, and you pay in naira. For background on the exchange itself, see how the Nigerian stock exchange works.

Step 1: choose a broker

NGX calls its brokers Trading License Holders and lists them through a Find a Broker tool on its site. Before you send documents or money, check the firm's status on the SEC's Find a Registered Operator page, which shows its function, address, fidelity bond and registration status. Ask the broker whether it onboards customers resident abroad and how it handles instructions by email or app. A broker that answers clearly in writing at this stage is usually easier to deal with from another time zone later.

Step 2: open the account and get a CHN

CSCS's FAQ says you open an account with a stockbroker first, and the broker creates your CSCS account and CHN. It lists:

  • One valid ID: NIN slip or card, international passport, driver's licence or voter's card.
  • Contact details, your BVN and a Nigerian bank account number.
  • For investors outside Lagos and Abuja, notarised ID sent through the broker.
  • A biometric capture is compulsory for some services, such as a stock position statement or moving shares between brokers.

In Italy a notary authenticates copies and signatures. NotaiOnline (updated 24 Sep 2026) notes that certified copies carry a €16 revenue stamp per sheet, and private documents need a notary's authentication before any further legalisation. Ask your broker exactly which form it accepts so you pay for only what is needed. A full walk-through is in opening a CSCS account from Italy.

Step 3: fund the account

Trades settle in naira. You can transfer from a naira account you already hold, or bring euros or dollars in through a Non-Resident Nigerian Investment Account (NRNIA). Lexworth (Mondaq, 22 May 2025) describes the NRNIA as the CBN account for Nigerians abroad who invest in Nigerian markets, with equity investments made in naira and naira balances repatriable on evidence of the prior foreign inflow and the related investment proceeds. If you think you will want the sale proceeds back in euros, the NRNIA route keeps the paper trail.

Step 4: trade, then keep records

  1. Place orders through the broker's app or by written instruction.
  2. Download the contract note for each trade and your CSCS statement regularly.
  3. Keep your contact details and bank account updated with the broker; dividends are paid by registrars to the account on record.
  4. If you change brokers later, expect the biometric step for the transfer.

What it costs

Each trade carries the broker's commission and regulatory and exchange charges, which appear line by line on the contract note. Brokers publish or send their fee schedules on request; ask for it before you open the account, along with any custody or account maintenance fee and the charge for a CSCS statement. On top of trading costs, there is the currency cost of converting euros to naira, and later back. Compare the rate offered with the mid-market rate each time: on a long-term holding, two conversions can cost more than the commissions.

Dividends and corporate actions while you are abroad

Dividends are paid by the company's registrar to the bank account linked to your CHN, so a closed or dormant Nigerian account is the most common reason dividends go unclaimed. Bonus shares and rights issues are credited to the CSCS account or offered through the broker; CSCS's FAQ directs dividend and bonus claims to the registrars. Set up email alerts with your broker and registrar, and check your CSCS statement after every dividend season.

Tax in Nigeria and Italy

Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, gains are added to an individual's income and taxed at personal income tax rates, with a top marginal rate of 25%. Bloomberg Tax (2 Feb 2026) reports an exemption for share disposals where proceeds are no more than ₦150 million and gains no more than ₦10 million in 12 months; check the current conditions with your broker or adviser before relying on it.

In Italy, Nigerian shares held through a Nigerian broker are foreign financial assets: they go in quadro RW, and IVAFE generally applies at 2 per mille a year, according to FiscoeTASSE (9 Jan 2024). Italian tax on dividends and gains is covered in selling Nigerian shares and Italian tax. This is information, not tax advice.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is not a broker. A Pryme account, which can be opened from Italy, holds EUR and NGN with account details for each, so you can convert with Swap and fund your broker from naira. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. See multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

Can I buy Nigerian stocks from Italy?

Yes. Open an account with an NGX-licensed stockbroker, who creates your CSCS account and CHN, then fund it in naira.

What documents do I need for a CSCS account from abroad?

CSCS lists one valid ID, your BVN, a Nigerian bank account and contact details; investors outside Lagos and Abuja can submit notarised ID through the broker.

Do I need a Nigerian bank account to buy NGX shares?

Yes. CSCS asks for a bank account number, and trades and dividends are settled in naira.

Do I pay Italian tax on Nigerian shares?

Italian tax residents report them in quadro RW and IVAFE generally applies; gains and dividends may also be taxable in Italy. Check with a commercialista.
