Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Business continuity for power outages in a Lagos office

Planning backup power and internet for a Lagos office: what supply bands promise, solar and generator budgets, two internet links and a test routine.

The short answer

Plan a Lagos office around the supply band its feeder is on, then budget backup for the hours that band does not guarantee. NERC's July 2025 order for Ikeja Electric sets minimum daily supply of 20 hours for Band A down to 4 hours for Band E. Backup usually means an inverter and battery (often with solar), a generator for long gaps, and two internet links from different providers.

Start with the feeder band

Nigerian distribution companies sort feeders into service bands, each with a minimum number of supply hours and its own tariff. NERC's July 2025 supplementary order for Ikeja Electric (ORDER/NERC/2025/064) sets the minimum hours below, and Band A at ₦209.50/kWh as at that order. Other DisCos have similar orders; check the one for the building's DisCo and ask the landlord or the DisCo which band the feeder is on.

BandMinimum daily supply (NERC, Jul 2025)Gap backup must cover
A20 hoursUp to 4 hours
B16 hoursUp to 8 hours
C12 hoursUp to 12 hours
D8 hoursUp to 16 hours
E4 hoursUp to 20 hours

Minimums are not promises about when the gaps fall. A Band A office can still lose power at 10am. Plan for working hours, not daily totals.

What to keep running

  • Must run: laptops, internet routers, phones, one or two lights, card or POS terminals.
  • Should run: fans, a printer, a small fridge.
  • Generator only: air conditioning, kettles, microwaves, water pumps.

Listing loads this way decides the size of the inverter and battery. A small office's must-run list is often modest; air conditioning is what makes systems large and expensive.

Backup options and costs

OptionGood forCost reference we found
Inverter and batteryShort gaps, silent, instant switchGet quotes; size to must-run load
Inverter, lithium battery and solar panelsDaily gaps in sunny hours, lower running costOne buyer reported about ₦3.75 million for a 5kVA inverter, 5kW lithium battery and eight 590W panels (Legit.ng, Apr 2026), not itemised
GeneratorLong gaps, heavy loadsRunning cost depends on fuel price and hours; get current pump prices
Building or serviced-office powerNo capexCheck what the service charge covers and the hours

Treat the solar figure as one reported purchase, not a market price; prices move with the exchange rate.

Power and internet fail together more often than not, because routers and base stations need power too. Use two links from different providers and put both routers on the inverter.

  • NCC data reported by TechCabal (June 2026) shows Spectranet, Starlink and FibreOne together held about 70% of Nigeria's ISP subscribers at the end of 2025, so these are common choices.
  • TechCabal reported in February 2026 that Starlink reopened Business/Priority plans in congested cities including Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt at ₦159,000 a month, with residential orders blocked in parts of Lagos such as Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Lekki. Check Starlink's own site for today's price and availability.
  • A mobile 4G or 5G router as a third fallback is cheap insurance.

A worked budget

Example only. A six-person office on a Band B feeder works 9am to 6pm. Monthly costs, with every figure invented except where stated:

LineExample monthly cost
DisCo energy (example)₦180,000
Generator fuel for about 40 hours a month (example)₦240,000
Generator and inverter servicing (example)₦40,000
Primary internet (example)₦60,000
Backup internet (example)₦30,000
Total₦550,000

Check: 180 + 240 + 40 + 60 + 30 = ₦550,000. Add the one-off cost of an inverter or solar system, spread over its expected life, to compare with generator fuel. In US terms the budget should be set in dollars with a margin for naira movements.

People and process, not just kit

Equipment fails, so the plan needs people too. Name one person in the office responsible for the generator and inverter (fuel, servicing, switching), and a deputy. Agree what staff do when both power and internet go: work from home if their area has supply, move to a nearby serviced office or coworking space with its own power, or switch to tasks that need no connection. A small monthly allowance for staff home internet or mobile data can be cheaper than keeping a whole office running on a generator through a long outage.

Tell US colleagues and customers what to expect. A short note on the office's working hours, the backup channels (a mobile number, a shared chat) and the usual time to restore service avoids escalations every time Lagos goes quiet for an hour.

Test it

  1. Monthly: switch off mains at the board for an hour in working time and see what stops.
  2. Quarterly: run the office on the backup internet link only for a morning.
  3. Keep a log of outages (date, length, cause) to support DisCo complaints and the case for upgrades.
  4. Store work files in the cloud with automatic sync, so a sudden cut loses minutes, not days.

Continuity also covers data; see cybersecurity for a Lagos office. For the cost side of running a Nigerian team, see running payroll for Nigerian staff.

Where Pryme fits

Diesel, internet and servicing are paid in naira. A Pryme Business Account holds USD and NGN, and Swap shows the rate and fee before you approve a conversion. Suppliers can be paid in batches through bulk payouts, with a person approving above a set ceiling.
