Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Bringing a parent from Nigeria for omugwo: the costs

Hosting your mother from Nigeria after a birth: visa and biometrics fees, insurance, medical exam, flights and living costs, with a worked budget.

The short answer

Bringing a mother from Nigeria for omugwo means paying IRCC's $100 visitor visa fee and $85 biometrics fee (fee list modified 21 September 2026), plus private medical insurance, a return flight and her living costs while she stays. A super visa adds an immigration medical exam and at least one year of insurance with $100,000 of emergency cover, so it suits longer or repeated visits; a regular visitor visa can be cheaper for a single stay of a few months.

Omugwo, the weeks or months a new mother's own mother spends caring for her and the baby, travels well. Thousands of Nigerian families in Canada fly a grandmother in when a baby is due. The visa is only part of the cost; insurance, the flight and the extra months of food and transport often cost more. This guide lists each item so you can budget before you book.

Visitor visa or super visa

A parent from Nigeria needs a visa to visit Canada. There are two routes:

Regular visitor visaSuper visa
Who it is forAny visitorParents and grandparents of a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or registered Indian
Visa fee$100 per person$100 per person (listed under visitor visas)
Biometrics$85 per person, $170 family maximum$85 per person, $170 family maximum
Host income testNo fixed amount; enough to cover the visitMinimum necessary income table
Medical examNot routinelyRequired, with an approved panel physician
InsuranceAdvised, not requiredRequired: 1 year, $100,000 emergency cover

Fees are from IRCC's fee list (modified 21 September 2026); super visa conditions from IRCC's eligibility and documents pages (modified July 2026). For a regular visitor visa, IRCC's officer instructions say there is no fixed amount of funds; the money must be enough to cover reasonable expenses.

The super visa income test

If you choose the super visa, the host (with a spouse or partner co-signing, if needed) must meet a minimum income. The table IRCC updated on 29 July 2025 starts at $30,526 for a family of 1 and rises to $46,720 for 3 and $56,724 for 4. The visiting mother counts in the family size. So a couple with one child inviting one grandmother is a family of 4. The full table and the proof IRCC accepts are in our guide to the super visa income requirement.

The costs, item by item

Fees you cannot avoid

  • Visa: $100
  • Biometrics: $85, collected at a visa application centre in Nigeria
  • Super visa only: the panel physician's fee for the medical exam, set by the clinic

Insurance

For a super visa, the policy must run at least a year from entry and be paid in full or by instalments with a deposit. For a regular visit, insurance is optional, but a visitor has no provincial cover; a hospital stay without insurance is billed at non-resident rates. Premiums rise steeply with age and health history, so get written quotes for her actual age and conditions.

Flight

No nonstop flight links Toronto and Lagos; travellers connect through carriers such as Air France, KLM, Ethiopian, EgyptAir and Royal Air Maroc (Aviation A2Z, 13 August 2026). The same report cites an industry analyst's estimate of an average one-way fare of about $624. Treat that as a market average, not a quote: prices around December and summer are higher. See is there a direct flight from Canada to Nigeria.

Living costs

Food, winter clothing if she arrives between November and March, a transit pass or extra fuel, phone data and pocket money. These are modest per week and large over three months.

A worked budget

Example only, for a three-month regular visit. Replace each line with your own quotes.

ItemExample (CAD)
Visa fee100
Biometrics85
Return flight1,400
Visitor medical insurance, 90 days900
Winter coat, boots250
Extra groceries, 13 weeks at $60780
Transit and phone, 3 months at $90270
Pocket money300
Total4,085

Check: 100 + 85 + 1,400 + 900 + 250 + 780 + 270 + 300 = 4,085. If she will come back for a second grandchild, compare the cost of repeat visitor applications with a super visa.

Costs people forget

  • Travel from her town to the visa application centre for biometrics, and a night in Lagos or Abuja if needed
  • Courier or passport collection after a decision
  • A doctor visit paid in cash if she falls ill and the policy has a deductible
  • Gifts and the extra luggage allowance on the way home
  • Time off work for whoever collects her from the airport

None of these is large on its own; together they can add several hundred dollars to the plan, so leave a margin.

What to check first

  1. Her passport is valid well beyond the planned return date.
  2. Your invitation letter covers her name, dates, where she will stay and who pays (see invitation letter for parents).
  3. Insurance covers her pre-existing conditions, or you know which are excluded.
  4. Biometrics appointment and processing time fit the due date; apply early.
  5. Her return ticket, so she can show she will leave.

Where Pryme fits

If she pays her share in naira from home, a Pryme account holds naira and USD side by side; Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve, and a verifiable statement can support her own funds evidence.

Questions people ask

How much is a Canada visitor visa for my mum from Nigeria?

IRCC lists $100 per person plus $85 for biometrics (fee list modified 21 September 2026).

Is a super visa better than a visitor visa for omugwo?

For one stay of a few months, a regular visitor visa is often simpler and cheaper. A super visa needs a medical exam and a year of insurance but suits long or repeated stays.

Does my mother count in the super visa family size?

Yes. IRCC's examples count the invited parent in the host's family size.

Can my mother use OHIP while visiting?

No. Visitors are not covered by provincial plans; buy visitor medical insurance.
